A cautionary tale:

Against my instincts, I installed A Dance with Spies, and although I like the sneaky spying thing, there is some interesting content.

15min in, and here I am, uncovering some ancient abandoned studio under the public library, and on my way out through the main study rooms, I encounter (that) Imoen masturbating to an anatomical encyclopedia. Off we are to a great start.

Yes, the module is absolute garbage. Not bad as in huge empty areas with some crude porn thrown into it like 2005 module bad, but worse in the sense that it could be a good spy story with some fucking thrown in it ruined by copious amounts of abominable writing.

Early on starts ok. After the prologue, you need to investigate some disappearances, mostly linear, but you get to use different skills to get the full story. The amnesiac MC has a wife, and you can mend their relationship by getting her flowers, fucking her brains out, and overall treating her well. Quite wholesome.

But then things go to shit the moment Imoen is introduced. I can't put it into words of how bad it is. It's probably made of all the BG sex fanfics existing in the net distilled into module format. Every dialogue with her is about sex, and how smart, and tricky, and slutty, and experienced she is. Wall of text after another of garbage erotica. I suppose that after all, my mental and moral health is quite high since everything this cunt says turns into an instant boner killer for me. More bored than repulsed.
Later you are investigating the disappearance of some thots, that turns out joined a sex cult. Cool, now I'm forced to join a sex cult with Imoen. However, other than some bestiality things are tame compared to the eye-bleeding trash that comes out of Imoen's mouth.

The most *memorable* moment involves a cage of dogs fucking some slut. Someone mentions *knotting*. I pass a WIS roll and get a wall of text description of canid mating. Imoen feels obligated to show her knowledge educating me on canid mating with more expositions (with almost the exact text as before). Some other cunt repeats exactly the same expository dialogue box. Go fuck yourselves.

Then to bring in some hilarity the sex cult turns into a blood cult (surprising absolutely no one), and I'm currently bringing in the inquisition to mop them out. What a train wreck.
By this point, fetishes start to pour in, and some fag already propositioned the MC by now (thankfully, I got the option of doing fetch quests instead). At some point there is a poor attempt of adding interracial cuckoldry by having some guy called Jamal (lol) fuck Imoen, I was just grateful since I could get away from that cunt and progress the actual mission. I would have her fucked by dogs if that allowed me to get rid of that cunt.

This is a really bad mod. A Dance with Rogues, despite some fringe fetish shit had fun gameplay, non-linear quest, a big open city packed with content, and fun sneaky-roguey shit. This mod has none of that. Sure, you can sneak into random houses, but lot is braindead (a diamond on a barrel at a slum, and 3gp at chest guarded by a deadly trap in a rich man's house, etc).

I've never felt offended by a mod, but this is so bad that I feel dumber just by playing it. If the cunt who made this shit ever reads this, please lit yourself on fire. I hope whoever holds the BG licence calls a fatwa on you.

Edit: just deleted this dumb shit. Final straw? Hurr durr, we can't hurt a demon. Imoen: Let me pick dOg CuM out of my cunt and smear it into your sword, hUrRdUrR!

This is a very, very, dumb module. Don't play it.

Edit2: Yes Draco, this is absolutely haram. Don't play it.

Insert Title Here Strap Yourselves In Divinity: Original Sin Project: Eternity Torment: Tides of Numenera Wasteland 2 Divinity: Original Sin 2
I played it ten years ago when there was no Imoen, no sodomite (animal and faggot one) stuff, enjoyed the Wife part, then rescued some dumb thot from cult and bring her home hoping for some hot threesome.... and my wife kicked us out onto street  (maybe I did not bothered to buy her flowers). Not sure if there was option to pimp her out on streets later to get some gold for new flat, as it ended there. The modules back then were much more moral and wholesome than now indeed.

If you want some porn writings, find it in writing media instead of in games. Mixing the two will ruin both~

I mean, you can find another piece if the current one doesnt satisfy your picky taste.

But would you throw out a game just because its writing, specifically the porn pieces, are abominable? Would it be... overreacting? And then you have to pinch your nose and play on, suffering the bad porn writings.

ADWS originally started out as a fan mod around Valine's A Dance With Rogues (ADWR) series.
Since its beginnings almost a decade ago, it has continuously progressed away from this initial idea.
While ARWR strongly focuses on the classical hero's journey and character development, with the "adult" content heavily spicing things up, ARWS' focus in contrast heavily lies on exactly that spicy "adult" content itself.
In ADWS, there is a strong emphasis on the interactions between the payer and the lead characters as well as between these characters among themselves.
Also, there is very little use of the combat, magic, class or level system of the original NWN series.

And of course I want to explicitly express my thanks to Valine, whose marvelous A Dance With Rogues series has in fact encouraged me to get this thing going.
Since this module blatantly uses several parts of the original ADWR story and setting, I hope Valine is OK with me using it. (Unfortunately she didn't answer my request messages.)

A fan fic of a fan fic. Can tell it's terrible without even looking at the thing. :M

I expected it would be like adwr, a fun rogue city rpg adventure with some smut thrown in, not 9 parts Imoen 1 part linear mediocre questline. Only the opening segments are any good, and it has almost no side quests.

ADWR was a once-in-a-generation miracle. Whatever fat gothic chick wrote that game deserves the romance novel rapist/hunk of her dreams.

It's really depressing knowing NWN2 would never get the EE experience.
Im playing it right now and it aged better than some rpgs that came out 5 years after it. There's no need for beamdog ruining it. Also i think a lot of people are shitting on OC but it turned out not as bad i remembered it. Yeah its not Baldur's Gate or other classics, but its still the greatest build-porn rpg. nwn2db alone has about a million builds.
Probably playing it after the latest Obsidian games made me appreciate it more too. At no point was i bored by the writing such as it is, like i was through the entirety of PoE duology(with the exception of Durance). Also they made an effort to give cutscenes some cinematic production, which is a lost technology for isometric games and it makes characters feel more like real people, rather than a stat sheet.
Some of you guys should give it a chance, you might even like the writing more, since the game came out half a decade prior to start of woke cult, which elevates it big time. No mandatory strong independent carpet munchers who talk like modern girls from California are injected into your adventure right at the start, which is more than you can say about modern isometric RPGs apparently. Also you have a great MotB to look forward to afterwards.
Another good thing about it is that the simple story of a peasant is a nice break from above mentioned Wrath, with it "super-duper epic mythic" feel, which i honestly don't care about.

I liked NWN2 just fine, but the modkit was way less user-friendly and the dialogue system it used pretty much demanded voice acting, which means there was never any chance of quality user content. A disappointing dead end to what was previously the richest goldmine in the community content world.

The dialogue system wasn't the problem, while the OC and MotB made extensive use of cinematic conversations, they also had regular dialogue windows and then SoZ gave us that wonderful party conversation feature. But the less ergonomic and more labour-intensive toolset did strangle NWN2's modding potential, yes.

For me it's more or less about optimization I mean even with modern hardware the game Chug, getting EE treatment would potentially fix this issue plus fixing the weird camera.

Make sure you restart your PC every three or four days when you're playing NWN2. There's a bug in the game that causes animations to stutter the longer your OS goes between power cycles, something about the uptime clock which doesn't get reset when you go in and out of hibernation. The NWN Client Extender solves this bug, but in my experience it introduces a much worse issue where the game proper stutters when dealing with more challenging AI pathfinding.

You don't need to do any of that. Its not an nwn2 specific bug, its an engine bug that also exists in Jade Empire. And fix for Jade Empire also works for nwn2. You can download fix on gogforum. Works like a charm. https://af.gog.com/forum/jade_empire_special_edition/stuttering_fix?as=1649904300

You're a gentleman, much appreciated! Cocked an eyebrow at Windows Defender reporting "54 files" in an archive consisting of three items, but it was just the AV scanning inside the redistributable. I'll give this a try and see how it holds up after a few days running, if it checks out I'll add it to my NWN2 guide.

Gargaune You seem to have a handle on things NWN 2. Do you know if there is any mod out there that speed up spellcasting? In NWN, haste would double your amount of actions per round, including allowing you to cast spells twice as fast but this was not so in NWN 2 and that really bummed me out.

Is this the thread where you complain about the Beamdog Enhanced Edition? I was playing an user module and things were going fine for a while, then all of a sudden it corrupted my save game and made it impossible to load and I was several hours into the mod. I have not had anything like this happen in the original release. I am so mad about it I don't even care if there is some solution to the problem, I refunded it instantly. Consider this a warning to others who might be interested in playing that release.

No, sorry, I only use the mods listed in my guide. But it doesn't sound like something that would be readily moddable through scripting or .2da edits.

Bummer. I was hoping there was a way to automatically quicken your spells or something, to achieve the same effect. Maybe in another 10 years!

Hm. Well, if you're not worried about balance, that might be possible. NWN2 supports active effects from items that are merely possessed in the character's inventory, so that might be something to look at, whethere it's possible to apply a persistent Quicken Spell effect. Alternatively, you might be able to apply the Quicken effect via a spellhook extension (NWN1 link), if that's still doable in NWN2, or a custom PC property. But I've never really looked far enough into NWN2's Toolset to give definite advice.

Oi, someone recently ran most of NWN2's base textures through an upscaling algorithm to produce a 2022 HD Texture Pack mod. It's a hefty install with the standard version unpacking at 3.6GB of diffuse maps and 3.3GB of normals and I gave it a quick go, I can see the difference, but I'm not really sure it justifies the hard drive space. I'll have to find a campaign to play with it to get a better idea.

By the by, since the author didn't post installation instructions - you just gotta unpack the archives and copy the "Diffuse - Recommended" and "Other Maps - Recommended" folders into your NWN2 Override folder. If you're using other texture overrides, remember that the Override folder in your Documents directory takes priority over the one in the game's install directory, so you can put this mod in the install path and anything else in Documents.

It's not grain-filter-bad but it also looks off and weird.

Has anyone played The Subtlety of Thay for NWN2? Impressions, length, and does it actually take you to Thay? Also, the surviving Vault listings are a little confusing, are the two chapters separate or does the second include the first as well?

It's not grain-filter-bad but it also looks off and weird.
Too much sharpness on a texture painted for lower fidelity can backfire, yes.
