I don't know man. I still have a really hard time with 3rd person + consolized interfaces. It would be so much better in 1st person. Maybe a FPP hack/mod will get made. MCA definitely has the skills to make the dialogue good, but the proof will be in the pudding.

MCA is working on the dialogs. That's all i need to know.

I have a feeling this is the game that is going to discredit MCA as a writer. It is obvious to me that they can't allow themselves to write good dialog, lest they jeopardize the game's already dubious commercial success.

I'm afraid you're probably right about this. The mainstream gaming market has pretty specific tastes.

Damn this game is such a crap.
Lockpicking mini-game is indeed Oblivion's abortion - yeah guess stats in AP really matter.
Action part is boring in a ME way and it even got ME's auto-targeting Circle Of Doom (that really helps a stealth gameplay - hey you can just cast "infinite bullets" spell and auto-target will do everything for you)

Though no wonder some codexers will like it - after all some of you fucking praise that Kasavin sellout prick (no really wtf)

But hey you can auto-lock "stances" so you won't have to pick dialogue options yourself (which can only mean that the game indeed "rewards" you no matter what you choose) so yay!

Add to this the retarded dual-colour palette of desert levels from F3 and bad voice-acting of main character (guess they decided to follow their big Bioware brother in everything)

Also what does a shooter (and a piss-poor console shooter) do in RPG Discussion?
Oh lawd it will be just like Deus Ex!
Decline indeed.

What's with everybody becoming gay once someone speaks of Avellone?

I have the feeling that, when considering this game, it's best to forget about Avellone's and Obsidian's previous achievements and just treat it as an action-rpg romp. They are clearly not aiming to make a deep RPG with this one, so it shouldn't be judged as one.

Avellone's talent can't really shine in a production like this, and how much creative control does he have anyway?

Reminiscing about Torment when viewing Alpha Protocol footage is extreme sadomasochism, and totally unnecessary.

So we should first subject ourselves to lower standards so that we can subject anything else to criticism? Fuck that.

Game will suck. It may have some ounce of entertainment, but it will suck the same.

I am very disappointed by the consolishness of most of the stuff they show.

And only to add to your (and my own) misery, here is this discussion I found at at stygianabyss.com:

Deep Cover, that was one of Looking Glasses unfinished projects, a 60s style spy rpg running on the dark engine.

No, I meant: treat it as an action game. Compare to Deus Ex, not Torment.

I agree that it doesn't look too appealing, but it might turn out to be fun. Shame they cancelled the Aliens game in favour of this.

Yes and compared to Deus Ex it is a terrible dumbed-down piece of shit.

In Deus Ex at least stats influenced something and it was hard to shoot someone or lockpick if you didn't have proper skills. In AP auto-target does everything for you and you play a goddamn mini-game from Oblivion to pick locks. Stats are a gimmick again.
And of course you have superhuman "spells".

If anything it can be only compared to Invisible War. And you know how good that game was.

The game looks like it runs like shit already at this stage. Imagine when they spruce up the graphics and it starts to chug like an old Rare game.

I'm interested in it. It looks fine to me. I don't see how magically the game is now autotarget Oblivion-esque retardation once they show a bit of footage. I didn't even think it was autotargeting, and oh no there's a cross-hair, whatever will a shooting game do with a cross-hair?

Console Circle Of Doom is not a crosshair - it is an auto-targeting for a long time now (you have to target enemies with your crosshair on PC and there is no guarantee the bullet will hit in the exact same place where crosshair is. OTOH it is enough for the enemy to at least be in the Circle of Doom and every bullet will automatically fly his way no matter where you point your gun.)

Bullshit. Stats are weak in Deus Ex. Even that sellout reviewer Wyrmlord made a thread about noticed that. I'm quite confident that stats will be more important in AP than Deus Ex, though I'm even more confident they won't be as important as I'd like. Your comments on AP are the most negative extrapolation possible from minimal information (though, no surprises there).

Nothing about this game has struck me as particularly terrible or awesome as yet - bullet storm, time-stopping ... are pretty much to be expected from a game influenced by Bourne, Bond, Bauer; lockpicking mini-game? Big fucking deal. ActionRPGs mix player and character skill. If the mix is too far towards the player, we may have a problem, but the mix itself is not. Dialogue system? I have some concerns, but have seen too little of it to dismiss it completely. Adding a time-sensitive component and removing the ability to continually re-cycle through the same dialogue are both good, in theory.

Still hoping for an entertaining actionRPG, more in the vein of VtmB than Deus Ex. In that I expect a greater focus on NPC interaction and less of a focus on FPS-style mission design.

But it won't hit the exact person depending on the size of the circle for one. Since circle doesn't cover an entire body.

I'm in a mood for arguing so I will ignore this ridiculously dumb part of your comment.

You obviously missed a part where Obsidian dev said that they don't want player to suck on the first character levels so they made stats not important.

Also mini-games are included instead of stats. Always. In every game that has minigames.
Why do you need stats if you have minigames?

Also you sound like some ESF'er now. We are getting enough info about AP for the past year and most of it points towards a dumbed-down game - where have you been?

Besides it is a console game - what more proof of suckage do you need?

Adding a time-sensitive component and removing the ability to continually re-cycle through the same dialogue are both good, in theory.
Uh. It was done back in 90s in adventure games (without timer but dialogues won't get recycled still). Except there you had to choose your responses. Here you can save yourself a trouble by choosing "auto-respond".

It will hit everyone that circle at least partially covers. See f.e. ME (as AP copies it hard)
That's how a dumbing down for gamepad works - because it will never be precise as mouse and omg enemies will kill you.

Before this video I was expecting (hoping for) a good RPG and mediocre action game.

Seems to me now we'll be getting a good action game and a mediocre RPG...
