NWN graphical quality is at best comparable with Quake 1:

Although Quake 1 had better textures, better lighting and SOME art-direction. Polycount seems about the same.

Quite ironically, i think the game that would have benefited the most of an overhaul would have been NWN, precisely because of the modding possibilities. Despite the many many flaws some fan content is actually worthwhile as is.
