Number of posts per page and links to posts

Taluntain.

The number of posts per page have changed from 25 to 20 recently.

This royally fucks up the Playground section, as most LPs have links to updates that look like this:
http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/inde...-life-the-call-cyoa.74136/page-5#post-2228236
http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/inde...-life-the-call-cyoa.74136/page-6#post-2242395

Notice that the links contain the page where the post should be found. And since the number of pages in the thread changed, all links became broken.

Now, the reason they are broken is because the 'Permalink' button contains the reference to the thread name, page and the post ID. But why can't it be just plain post ID?

http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?posts/2228236
http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?posts/2242395

These links lead to the posts no matter where they are. They will not go defunct if the number of posts changes or if some posts get moved/deleted, changing the post placement in the thread.

So I propose two things:
1) Revert the changes of posts per page, if only in the Playground. All of LPs are unindexed now due to this.
2) Change the permalink button to link to post ID instead of whatever it is linking to now.

The more posts per page the better the quality of the discussion. If only the users didn't have the memory of a goldfish and constantly refresh the discussion each new pages to the latest inanity someone dropped at the beginning.

Yes, XenForo is stupid because it needlessly includes the page of the thread in the link, when it's entirely unnecessary.

Observe:

1. Link with Page number, which will vary based on pages per thread display setting:
http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/inde...-life-the-call-cyoa.74136/page-5#post-2228236

2. Link straight to post ID, which will never change, even if the individual post is moved or split elsewhere:
http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?posts/2228236

Is it possible to tweak the forum's underlying whatever so the page number doesn't get parsed if there's a post ID?

It should be, but it's hard to believe that the page number is actually included by default (I can't see why, wtf -- maybe it's a SEO setting), I'll need to test this on an unmodified XF. 20 posts per page is the XF default and I actually changed it to reduce the loading times a bit because even on my broadband those image-heavy threads load for ages and half of the the images usually time out before they load and it's very annoying having to manually reload them (even worse if people reload threads 2 or 3 times to get all the images to show). So cramming more content on every page is definitely not always for the better. There are huge numbers of very content-heavy threads here.

This is definitely something that needs to be fixed because merging, splitting or deleting posts is equally likely to break links unnecessarily.

Yes, if you link from a user's post history or a search for their posts it uses the short post-only link format, but people usually use the link from the individual post in a thread (as it's often more convenient) which had the longer format

I don't suppose it would be possible to revert this change until the fix is implemented? None of the links that link past the 4th page work now.

And yes, this really is done as stupidly in XF as it looks, confirmed to be "working as designed". I don't even...
