Do not listen to the naysayers. NWN1 + expansions + user modules is a solid computer D&D experience. Though the original campaign is not great, use it as a tutorial then skip the rest if you want and move onto the expansions and modules (some of which are superb). If you plan on doing online, I'm afraid EE is the only way to go if you want servers that are actually filled with players, but you can always play the porn-oriented lovers' labs on Diamond (be sure to patch it properly with unofficial patches ) where fellow incels play dress-up, role-play, chase and fuck each other. Highly regarded modules like the Swordflight series tend to work best with diamond I'm told.

NWN is one of the best games ever. If someone doesn't liek it they have admitted to be retarted. Don't listen to retarts. That is always sound advice.

NWN1 might be good, but that dialogue window being stuck at the top-left of your screen is driving me up the walls. It was OK 20 years ago when we were all rocking 4:3 screens but even at 16:9 it's a PITA, let alone on ultra-wide monitors.

I don't understand how they haven't changed that yet in the EE version.

Larger and more readable fonts?

SoU is better than HotU.

HotU is a garbled mess both thematically and gameplay-wise, whereas SoU at least is consistent and cleanly executed. Also looting barrels and finding +5 longswords? No thanks.

Never played neverwinter nights 1.Should i buy diamond edition or beamdogs enhanced edition?Do original modules and modes work for enhanced edition? Any must have mods? Can game be soloed without retarded henchmens with sorcerer?

The answer is simple. Buy NWN:EE from GOG (where it is currently on sale for $4.99). The version on GOG also comes with NWN-Diamond, so you get BOTH for one low price. Then, play them yourself and form your own opinion.

NWN:EE plays better with modern systems, has some graphical enhancements, new scripting and bug fixes. Some future modules might be NWN:EE only as well. No reason not to have it for that, and since you can have both, you can switch back and forth if that’s what you want.

The EE has jack shit. As someone who only recently played it, there are no noticeable bug fixes, no QoL improvements, no graphics improvements and no AI improvements.

As someone who has been running a PW since 2004, NWN:EE has a lot of changes under the hood that aren’t obvious. There are tons of scripting changes, some updated tilesets, options to scale objects, some toolset improvements, etc. The engine itself has a new lighting system, scaling UI, etc. It’s definitely a work in progress, but claiming they haven’t changed anything is misinformed. Until people build new modules to take advantage of some of these changes, you’re not going to see them.

People have had the opportunity to mod the game for years and nothing special came up. The modules made with the pre-EE version are still the top dogs.
I agree that the EE might have a big impact on PWs, I would know nothing about that, I'm speaking purely from a singleplayer perspective.

Here are some examples of some of the new tilesets in the base game. This isn't all of them:

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
It also features enhanced Aribeth :) She gives me the itch between my legs, I confess.

Still looks like something from here:

Particularly here:

If they had competent writers they should have used NWN:EE to start making interesting modules. If they were really competent, and what I would have really like to have seen on the assumption there weren't any licencing and IP issues, is some modules continuing the stories of some BG characters.

Imagine that: getting Lucas Kritjanson to write a self contained module about Yeslick rebuilding his home, or what if Irenicus had cloned Khalid, or Korgan setting up a mercenary company and tearing shit up. But knowing Beamdog, they'll be fixing this EE for the next 5 years minimum and nothing significant beyond that will happen.

EE is overrated as the Diamond Edition is pretty much the same thing, unless you're desperate for those two extra premium modules.

  • Overall I find NWN1 to be a flawed gem. The main campaign is pretty meh, so I'd definitely do SoU and then go to HotU. That way you got a long campaign that's gonna take you from level 1 all the way to level 25+.
  • There's also a ton of fan-made modules that you can play through, I saw a Codex thread about them too. Some are really good (The Prophet series in particular).
  • You can solo the game. I did it, although spellcasters will have a hard time with the final boss in HotU.
  • Didn't find any need for any sort of mods, even though I usually mod the games I play.
  • Agree with not giving Beamdog any money. The only title they deserve money for is PS:T EE.

The first chapter of the original campaign is not bad, but it makes an inexplicable turn after that and it's pointless to continue. SoU was generally pretty cool and HotU I haven't played past the intro. It's definitely possible to solo if you have some pain tolerance, that's how I did it.

Honestly, the EE is fine, but it understandably pissed people off because it introduced new bugs without improving anything. Things are a lot better with the EE now than before. It’s much more stable and there are (minor) graphical improvements. I still would recommend purchasing the Diamond Edition if it were available, for single player, but there are *alternative* ways of finding the Diamond Edition.

I'm actually playing the NWN OC atm as a retarded character. It fits somehow. OC isn't really as bad as people make it out to be. I'm suprised they took the time to do retartet dialogue. It's kinda funny.

-Shot myself in the foot there though.

NWN OC has been my most successful gateway by far in getting normies into DnD. The good, 3.5-2e kind that is.

EE for multiplayer, otherwise if you aren’t interested in hosted online servers then just stick to DE or whatever. EE is needed for online but sadly it introduces more bugs than fixes. I never had problems with the original version, other than maybe the intro video bug later on. EE’s latest problem is the path finding they supposedly improved. I’m seeing summons getting stuck a lot which I don’t remember being an issue previously.

The OC starts out okay. The first chapter is kinda fun in a campy D&D way, but everything after that is pretty bad tbh.
