I never understood why the publishers schedule different release dates for games depending on the continent.

And this applies to digital downloads as well. Direct2Drive says I can only download SOZ if live in NA, Canada or Mexico. Kind of pisses me off actually. And the Australian release date is the 4th of December???? There must be a very good reason for all of this but I'm probably not clever enough to figure it out.

Word on the street is that the combat has been significantly improved. Not only do fights now require tactics but you have to be careful to not end up fighting higher level monsters.

Downloading it now but the speed is slow.

Really? I honestly have trouble seeing how they could have done that without a major overhaul.

Sorry, I was focusing on the part about needing to use tactics. What did you mean by that?

In NWN2 and MotB my only "tactic" was to plow through things with my melee fighter while my team members did whatever.

I loved MotB, but combat wasn't it's strong point.

On the Bio boards people said that the beginning fight was especially hard(someone confirmed it here, too) and that the rest of the combat requires proper management and spell selection. Of course this could be attributed to the new AI.

SoZ bugs out MotB's dialogue. So, if you are playing MotB currently don't install SoZ until you are finished with it. Otherwise all dialogue events will have no voice and it will scroll through it fast without pressing buttons. It only happens in MotB. The OC and SoZ are fine.

The only instance I heard about this from the Bio Boards was because someone had custom content in their My Documents directory for NWN2 when they installed SoZ.

Is that your case here, because in our testing everything was fine with OC and MotB.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I want to fix this if we did miss something.

The retail version has shipped out to stores.
NEW YORK, NY – November 18, 2008 – Atari and Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE:HAS), bring new action and adventure into retailers today with the release of Neverwinter Nights™ 2: Storm of Zehir. Developed by world-renowned studio Obsidian Entertainment, the second expansion pack for the acclaimed Neverwinter Nights 2 delivers thrilling original D&D® adventures made even more exciting by a host of new gameplay features. Rated “T” for Teens, Neverwinter Nights™ 2: Storm of Zehir is now available for the suggested price of $29.99.

$29.95 USD for a mod seems a bit much
That sounds like a fine price point to me. I'd be picking this up tomorrow if wasn't for the fact that I haven't even gotten around to playing MOTB (though it's sitting there on the shelf, staring at me with puppy dog eyes). So many games...

Why did you link the unneccesary fatc that it was shipped to stores? What a waste. That's where I, and many others bought it.

And, yeah, I paid $33 Kanadian for SOZ. That's pretty damn good for expansions sicne they can go up to $50.

Because the newspost was just about it being on Direct2Drive and some folks in the thread were asking if it's going to be in stores. Do I need to ask your permission before posting a link?

No. I'm irrelevant. But, you could ask your common sense, though.

It should be obvious that it was shipped to stores. It's from Atari, and NWN series is one of their major holdings so of course they're going to want it in stores. Besides, i don't buy games online, and they want my money.

I've played about three hours today. Here's my brief verdict:

Three hours into Mask of the Betrayer I pissed off a god, fought him and his army of ghosts and flayed the skin from his body. I dragged the godly husk into a crypt where I infused it with the spirits of hundreds of tortured criminals to create a phantasmal party member.

Three hours into Storm of Zehir and I've battled a horde of goblins. I ran back and forth from the site of a shipwreck about three or four times because quests force me to backtrack. I've fought a dozen meaningless battles on the overland map. I've carried out a bunch of atypical quests. I've yet to experience any stellar dialog or unique moments.

I don't mean to trash SoZ. It isn't a bad game. It just hasn't really shined yet. The overland map is an annoying waste of time. Basically it's an ultra-zoomed out bird's eye view of the territory. Enemies roam about and almost constantly attack. I find that to be a pain. As for combat being a challenge? I'd say yes, it is. I wandered into a yuan-ti temple too soon and got utterly destroyed and I've died more than once to wandering bands of goblins before I realized they weren't just pushovers like in most games. At least early on some thought is required.

Anyway, I hope the story picks up. I've always been a huge fan of fleshed out party members. In SoZ you create 4 and you can recruit 2 more. The members you recruit really have nothing interesting to say. All they do is soak up XP which I think is a real shame. If nothing else, SoZ blows NwN2's original campaign out of the water. But hell, that ain't saying much. Doom the RPG blows NwN2's OC out of the water too.

Your mom would, too. If I'd let the bitch.

I have a feeling you'll change your tune when/if you play the game. In Baldur's gate if I stumbled across a pack of goblins I wouldn't even bother wasting my arrows on them, much less my spells. I'd just group all my guys together and order them to attack the nearest. Without fail my party would stomp the life out of the little buggers and we'd move on. In SoZ almost every battle has been a challenge. I'm forced to buff. My wizard can't afford to stand back and fire a few meaningless crossbow bolts into the fray. He's got to jump out there and do something. My cleric actually uses his heal spells for once. If one of my party members goes down I can't just ignore him. He won't spring up after the fight. He has to be stabilized or he'll die. Resurrection is fairly cheap, though. You start the game with four coins (they cost about 750 each) that can be used to rez party members.

Get witht he times. I am playing the game, dumbass. It's as easy as any NWN2 game. I went from the first town abck to the beach, and went through 5 random encounters in 2 seconds and I did nothing but click attack even with my mage. L0L

just curious, motb did some overhauls on the PC models, making most look a bit better.

Yes, I imagine it would be.

When you find a mod for that price, let me know, and I'll be sure to bitch about it.

:? Ouch, where's the love?
They get it when they release something that's not a mod for a BioWare game. I'd say Alpha Protocol looks promising but I'm more interested in seeing what they do with the Aliens RPG.

All the good mods inevitably get packaged and sold. You may now commence bitching.
