Just got to the city and damn, this game looks fine. I love the humorous undertone, which is surprising for me since I wanted a dark game like MotB. What I really like though, is that your alignment gives different dialog options. A chaotic character will have an opportunity to say different lines than a lawful one. Compared to the opening of MotB, SoZ seems a LOT bigger.

"Congratulations playing on the easy settings."

I play on the real D&D rules. If they can't balance it for a real challenge at that level perhaps they shouldn't make D&D games. *shrug*

Yeah, juvenile humour for the win that only has flashes of funny.

What, that's pretty cool. Well, cool as in why wasn't this implemented in the OC, but cool anyway.

If you play these games enough, they all are easy settings. This happens with all games, and it's called practice.

Apparently this concept is harder to grasp than I realized.

Most games do not require practice or effort. They are dumbed down because developers are convinced the majority of gamers are frothing idiots. They are probably right. This game, at least initially, requires slightly more effort than most. Practice all you want, you can't charge the enemy recklessly and hope to win. That is my point. Is this a particularly challenging game? Not really. At least not when you stack it up to the older games. Is it challenging in comparison to the modern games that don't even include player death? Yes.

Wrong.

Right.

Older games are easy too. I mean, I the greta moron, managed to beat them and I was just a kiddie. *shrug*

No. No. No. So far, this is easier than NWN2 OC and MOTB PUT TOGETHER. Seriously, spamming boring fights that end within seconds is not a challenging game made. Magic use just seems to be frivilous, and no thought is needed for battles.

I just entered a palce where I might need to use intelligence to win... we shall see.. but, I have no high hopes.

I'm getting disappointed with it. Was this really made by the same team that did MoTB? It doesn't feel like it. For one, dialog seems pointless. It doesn't matter what I say, everything always comes to the same conclusion. Using diplomacy, bluff or intimidate rarely does anything. Sometimes it doesn't even change the NPC's response. You still get the same reward, you still tackle quests in the same manner. It seems speech skills are only good for encounters on the overworld. They debuff groups of enemies.

I've yet to be faced with any moral dilemmas. I like playing as the bad guys. MoTB really shined in that regard. In SoZ being a bad guy basically just means being a dick . I perform the same quests as the good guys. Only difference is a slight change in dialog flavor. Instead of turning the quest in and saying the pleasure was all mine I just demand payment and toss out a few hollow threats.

Also, the overworld map is a joke. There is almost never a moment I'm not being attacked by groups of enemies. It's reached the point now where I just continuously bribe them to leave me alone. Not because they present a challenge but because I'd never get anywhere in the game if I didn't. And god forbid you get involved in the trading mechanic. Caravans travel back and forth across the map. They're ridiculously weak and they also come under constant attack. Guards patrol the streets but they're all a bunch of pushovers.

many complain about the number of wandering enemies. does that mean that the teamwork benefits camp routine and fearsome roster don't work as intended?

or have they just been ignoring those?

OC was easy, but MOTB? there were some challenging fights imo, esp if you create a new character without existing crafted uber equips and are on full pvp. couple i remember are the blackguards in the top level of the vault and the vampire monks in the lower level. its just towards the end that things got pretty boring (challenge-wise).

I've rested in the open about four or five times now and I've never been attacked. In fact, once I was being chased by a group of monsters and I stopped to rest 8 hours. The monsters were kind enough to wait in place for us to wake up. I don't see any point in getting camp routine.

I have not used fearsome roster. My party doesn't meet the requirements. However, I don't believe it would make a huge difference. Yes, it would drive away lower-level monsters, but I don't really come across many lower level groups. I'm always pushing ahead into more dangerous areas with higher level mobs.
