There are some people who like stuff like that. I don't like story based games but lots of people do, and if you can make the story really change based on what the players do, that would be something that could be hyped. It wont be the first but there aren't many others.

You're right about there being niches with a lack of games; I think I started this project because of a dearth of Classics-themed games that were faithful to the source material. I'm certainly not a great programmer or artist.

Anyway, I made an itch.io page, so hopefully I'll get some good indie fan feedback and can make the necessary improvements:

Oh great fans of Indie RPGs, is my project doomed or do you see anything of value here?
Do you want to make money from it ? If yes then its doomed. If its an hobby to have fun, go for it . No i am not edgy on purpose , the evil guy bashing the friendly indie. No one will try it with such presentation and child like pixel art, writing isn't that great either. Its a full time job to be a good writer its not anywhere close , but then again most CYOA games aren't either .. You should completely scrap it and go pure CYOA with well drawn 2 art.

Noooooo

But thanks. I'm well aware the pixel art assets are awful and need to be replaced at some point.

What didn't you like about the writing?

It's a bit simple and amateurish.

Quick note... If you are in to early Ultima and haven't checked out Lurking I from the list, it has recently been updated and is available for free on Itch. Working on more updates for this including enlarged display and revised tiles and combat but not sure when I will be able to get that out.

Also, Lurking II: Immortui is now in early access and also available on itch. It's a large game, once again focused on story and exploration but with much improved combat. Should be upgrading to Beta within a few weeks.

Hopefully soon, we will start to transfer some focus to our retro blobber called Vermys. You can see some screens from our proof on Itch as well.

Ok, I put this here, be careful it's unfortunately only playable on browser, I asked about a potential downloadable version, answer being :
I can make it happen if there is interest.
For the rest it is a different builds/different solutions to problems kind of games, with a simple turn-based combat system with action points, more precisely it's a tiny space Fallout.

The game was just shared and probably contains bugs ; I have not finished it yet but it's fun, with 0 in speech you can't talk, the game is really full of skill-checks and with some minor tweaks to my sheet after restarting I had to look for some different solutions.

EDIT : By the way I missed that the dev. posted in Worskshop subforum. Just look there.

In the absence of any issues reported, Lurking II: A Madness is now officially released. This game is the intense work of just two individuals over a period of about 18 months. Production cost: $0.00, heart, soul. We are so proud of what we have created. I have lowered the price to $5.00USD because after all, we just want people to experience our game. It can be downloaded from itch.io at the following link…

Journey Onward!

PS, the only thing that could possibly motivate me to make another game is the appearance of a Vermys. :)

V_K Have you played The Search For Freedom?

It's an old shareware, the registered version can still be purchased for $10, I chatted via e-mails with the creator (who is a passionate guy by the way) because I can't manage to make the game run properly (combat won't launch), he was very nice but couldn't figure out what my own issue it. I wanted to properly try the game at very least and eventually buy the full version before talking about it but here I am, the fact I'm so dumb I can't make a game run shouldn't prevent the game from being mentioned.
There's not much I can say about it but on paper it seems to be cool.
The Search for Freedom combines the best features of all my favorite RPG games, including Pool of Radiance style combat, Bard's tale type puzzles and spell system, and plenty of action. Complete Soundblaster sound effects and music are included, as well as 22 dungeon levels, 4 towns and 2 worlds to explore, and over 100 monsters each with their own special abilities will keep you on your toes. Interact with dozens of NPCs as well.

Nice find.

Tested it out and it's working fine for me (including combat), However, it's kind of an odd one to install properly.

- First off you have to extract the freev13.zip file using 7zip. For some reason if you use Winrar the game's installer will complain the original disk has been tampered with and won't install.
- Second the game must be installed from the A: drive using DOSBox in order for all the game files to be expanded and installed properly.
..extract the archive using 7zip to a folder (for example: FREEV13), then inside that folder make a new folder called FLOPPY and moves the files there.
..Mount the FLOPPY folder as floppy drive A: in DOSBox
..Go to the A: drive - hit ENTER, then type INSTALL

After installation there will be a new folder called FREEDOM with all the game files, manual, etc.
Start the game by running FREEDOM.BAT from that folder.

NOTE: Game takes around 25,000 cycles to run decently.

Thanks for your help.
My problem may be that I can't manage to install the game from the floppy drive. If I install from a: (instead of directly from another folder on c: ) the install begins then I get :
I don't know if it's due to some Windows rights or something else. :(

I just tested and it's a problem with that using DOSBox 0.74

It works fine with the SVN, or DOSBox ECE. I use DOSBox ECE.

Here's the link to Yesterplay 80's current/latest builds:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BxEUSpZ8xHkvaW1aYXlRRkRpVE0

Start from the beginning and the install will work :)

Thanks for your help, choosing SoundBlaster instead of NoSound when installing made the game work.
