According to one of their joblistings. Sadly seems to be for consoles also. IWD3?

Yes, doesn't mean its just going to be a mobile game (rather muiltplattform) nor that it isn't going to be a rpg. Could even be turnbased considering how that became some standard with 2D games.

No, it means *exactly* that they're looking for someone who knows Flash.
    End of story.

    Stupid obsidian fanboys.

I got kinda hyped at first, but this is probably indeed a mobile or facebook game. Meh.

High profile could well mean a Facebook MMO or something like that. It could be pure hype, too. No idea about the consoles though. "Has previously shipped titles on the PS3 or Xbox 360" could just be a kind of general job requirement, I guess? Or maybe it will be an Xbox Live + Facebook title? :?

tl;dr I just expect the worst.

Yeah, probably a facebook game. Because there are a lot of facebook games on the PS3. And a lot of high profile RPGs on facebook.

    It's probably for MCA's XBox360 Arcade Game.

Almost got excited. At this point I would be very happy to play an Icewind Dale game that played like the predecessors.

    Thanks for nothing.

IIRC the interface in Dead Space is done in flash, so just because they want someone who knows flash doesn't mean it's a fone game.

You guys are aware that this is industry standard for UI right? http://www.scaleform.com/

Not that the job posting is for a UI designer, but it's not surprising that flash is a required skill. Especially if it is a small scale game, most likely the artist will be doing a lot of interface work as well.

Was going to say. Scaleform is Flash-based and used by just about every game out there these days, and can presumably be used for a full 2D game as well, not just interface (not 100% sure but it seems logical, you'd have to do engine systems yourself but other than that it'd probably be very easy).

Flash in itself isn't even a bad thing for 2D games not requiring too much in the way of animation - games can be played in a browser and therefore are cross-platform, can run on just about any device you can think of, very low performance requirement, probably fairly easy to port to other platforms if necessary, fast development time, etc. There are some really beautiful Flash games out there, and several even sold as retail titles (Samorost, Machinarium), so don't assume it automatically rules out quality. I dislike Flash overall but it's not a bad choice for this sort of thing.
