Nathaniel Chapman and retweeted by Patrick Mills said:
A lot of fans of the original NWN2 campaign didn't like SoZ, but if you liked older D&D games (like Pool of Radiance) I think it's great.
Dear ex-Obsidian employees, please don't compare your shit engine/shit content mess to Pool of Radiance, a Josh Sawyer favorite.

Furthermore, I was never a fan of the original NWN2 campaign and no one should be.

I don't see anything wrong with the Elder Scroll game, I only played Skyrim tho and a little bit of Morrowind. The lore was kinda nice but quest and writing were kinda hollow I think.

Don't think I have any preference for combat type. I hope they eventually start 2 Kickstarters similar to InXile.

Edit:
I don't know if hollow is a good word to use, The factions quest is kinda not good in Skyrim, everything aside from the Dark Brotherhood faction's quests kinda seems not related to the faction. Mages not about magic and you can become the head of the mages by melee and Thieves you can kill everyone and not care about sneaking. Stuff like that.

I must have missed this Elder Scrolls inspired mess. Please no. That's the wrong series to be inspired by imo. I can get some enjoyment out of them if i just wander around and explore, but Obsidians talent would be wasted. Plus two on a turn-based kickstarter project. I'm really not holding my breath though.

It's Kotaku but it is also the only writer that knows what he writes about over there. This wasn't the specific game Urquhart was talking about in an interview, or at least I don't think so.

No, it's not that.

They did a good enough job with New Vegas and would likely do an even better one with new one since they (that is, Josh) recognize where they fell short when it comes to open world design.

I remember hearing about that. That actually sounded interesting.

I agree on New Vegas. One of my favorite games of the past decade despite the flaws with the engine and being forced to use F3 style gamepay. It's just the idea of using an Elder Scrolls game itself for inspiration i don't like. An open world game, first person or otherwise, made by Obsidian using their own systems/gameplay is something i could get behind though.

When Feargus Urquhart said "episodic Skyrim" he meant "open world (fantasy) RPG divided into epsiodes." After selling 20 million copies, it's the thing to reference, joining the ranks of Rogue, Doom, Mario, Metroidvania (yeah it took two), and GTA.

Obsidian did not make SP:TSoT a fun game. Matt and Trey made SP:TSoT a fun game. Obsidian made it playable.

Nope

You guys are seriously underestimating Obsidians work on that game.

B....But Obsidian ONLY did the mechanics.

Nope. Horeshit. Newsflash: Games do not only consist of mechanics and script-writing.

But the mechanics were awful.

Of course, even that can be traced back to the South Park creators, who I believe mandated it should be a Paper Mario clone.

Cool. Do you know where he has worked after that?

Obsidian said their original gameplay design was real time with pause (probably like Battleheart with a pause) but it suuuuuuuuuuuuuucked.

And its still by far not the only thing the people at Obsidian did (Design, Art, all the details and they did have a presence in the writers room among other things).
Also we pretty much know that the exact mechanics and gameplay underwent several iterations including in the last year of Ubisoft. (And its fucking obvious ingame)

About David: Worked at technicolor, mosaik and finally superbot.

I am not underestimating anything. Obsidian had creative input for mechanics and gameplay. South Park Studios were responsible for everything else in terms of creative input, including voices, music, and a ton of art assets. Ultimately, South Park Studios - Matt and Trey - had the final word on everything.

The game is fun because of the characters, story, and jokes. These are accredited South Park Studios, not Obsidian.
