Oh Snap! Twitcher 2 Dev Slams Bioware's Subpar Graphics!

I've seen enough of the sequel to have serious doubts as to how much it improves over the predecessor. Nothing looks radically different. Obviously Bioware has fallen victim to the mainstream trends in 'RPG' design versus their earlier work but for CD Projekt to claim any superiority is laughable. They're making a quasi-hybrid-hack-n-slash with mild RPG elements -- that's what Witcher 1 was and I highly doubt Witcher 2 is going to be some throwback to the era of Baldur's Gate.

It would be like Activision claiming superiority over EA in a contest between the Call of Duty and Battlefield series or -- to use a more popular internet meme -- going to a photo finish in a Special Olympics race. CD Projekt's propaganda gets old fast. They act like they're churning out classic crpgs and are a vanguard of ages past when the reality is Witcher is barely distinguishable (and arguably worse) from most modern games. At best, they are ARPGs. Which is fine. But they should just keep their mouths shut.

And Dragon Age has better story than Witcher? SInce when. It might have seemed so when I saw Loghain troops withdrawing from the battle at the beggining. But rather than have a story revolving politics we get fucking tons of snooooooozefest in addition to miriad of level scaled enemies.

PS. Neither Witcher nor DA story was captivating from beggining till the end. Tie.

btw, I have played The Witcher. In fact, I was a champion for The Witcher prior to its release even crowing about it here on the Codex and getting laughed for it. Then it got released, and I realized the truth: I got bamboolzed because TW's creators were smart enough to jump on the BIO bandwagon, and kept using the BIO name to sell their game. I got hoodwinked once. Shame. But, it ain't happenin' again. TW series sucks. Period. It is EOTB/POR2/AP bad.

It's sad that the ebst thing about TW is the porn cards.

Wow. I was wondering why volourn has such a reputation around here. Now I know.

I'll be the first to admit that Twitcher's world is a pretty generic and stereotypical fantasy land, but since it was created for the first real Polish fantasy book series, that is rather justified. Potential readers had no idea what a generic fantasy book is and therefore no points of reference. When first books came out around 1990, their mix of high and low fantasy with post-modernism where enough for them to stand out among wave of imported pulp fantasy - especially that two years before Tolkien was the only widely known author. It helped that it they were a blast to read, since Sapkowski knew his craft (after 2000 he went full decline, but that's another topic).

roll-a-die already pointed out DA's "inspiration sources", so I won't repeat them now.

Twitcher's story is nothing special too - rather mediocre to be honest. Writers did they best. They ripped many good stuff from the books (yes, ripped - recycling of plot points/characters is just painful), but they could not rip theplot and had to write it themselves. They came up with

medieval nazis making mutants to guide selected people to a better world, while the rest would die

. Could be worse, could be better. At least they made the characters and their motivations plausible, while Loghain's "Evil orkz from underground are attacking? Whatever! Cailan must die despite being my best friend's son, because he considers an alliance with them evil French peoples!" just makes me laugh. That's also the whole main plot.

It's true that The Witcher was overall not a very good game. Shitty filler combat, poor writing, low performance (at least when I played it), etc. etc.

Still a million times better than that horrendous piece of shit Dragon Age though. So far the sequels are shaping up to have the exact same relationship.
