Yes, it's totally about being flat-footed.
Frighten makes enemies flat-footed just like shaken if you have Shatter, which is the only reason to ever even consider to use piece of shit dazzle. This is a second basic mechanic people who "totally not retarded" don't know while playing essentially the same game since 2018.

Why i even bother.

I wish owlcat would start offering more arcane caster options among the npc companions, being stuck with Octavia/Nenio gets tiresome.

Come to think of it, Owlcat never gave us pure wizard character from the get go and it's very strange. The only wizard they gave us was Cephal in Varnhold's Lot and by far he's the best companion in that game - wise, cunning and deadly effective. I truly regret that he had to die - he would be a perfect advisor instead of Octavia. Hell, he would be one of the best in Wrath too - just imagine having him and Regill in your party, absolute first choices for evil/lawfull party.
I do agree that kingmaker lacks a proper full arcane caster, but wrathfinder has nenio.

It would be nice if there was a sorc as well though, just so you had 2 options for full arcane casting. But I guess they felt ember+woljif would make up for it.

Wait, no magic fang doesn't work on pets either. Well it sort of works, it seems to affect my bites but not claws.

Wait, what? That's proper idiotic, lol

Yep, my guess is that magic fang only works on the first attack type listed for the pet? Also works on my horse's bite but not the hoof attacks.

Kind of my fault for going so long with fairly basic equipment because I was saving all my cash for to buy armor bracers +7 and stuff. Still an obvious bug though.

Natural attacks for players (as opposed to pets) have always been wonky. On the bright side Magic Fang was stacking with Amulet of Mighty Fists in DLC (probably pet only). Hoping Scion’s free Arcane Strike can power through that one.

Magic Weapon was stacking *and* bypassing DR like Cold Iron throughout alpha/beta/release til they recently fixed it. Looks like they fixed it too much.

Would it kill you to use a Glaive or Bardiche lol?

Dazzling Display is piece of shit (usually) at full action, not so much as Standard. Terror has a solid proc, but that 17 DC goes obsolete pretty fast on higher difficulties while Hungerseed Scion with Intimidating Prowess can reliably land it’s Intimidate throughout the game. I’m a bigger fan of Fear than most but high # of attacks builds really don’t like having to waste a turn chasing stuff that runs away.

So, for some reason Slashing Tailwind counts the extra slashing damage as a separate attack made by the MC, regardless of who deals it. Which also triggers Dreadful Carnage on the PC whenever anyone in the party kills an enemy with slashing damage. This is on the current patch.

Things is, everything he puts into intimidate becomes useless the second when first caster in the party gains Frightful Aspect. You have whole party at your disposal - it just stupid to waste fighter's turn on the something all those priests, oracles and musicians could do better when he is the one person who would make the biggest impact hitting shattered enemy in the same round.

Throwing axes: easy to throw, light weapons and great for dual wielding.

Darts: awkward and heavy. Not light. Don't you dare dual wield.

The pathfinder system never ceases to amaze (mildly disappoint).

Uh, they can't. Not until level 15 (or 16 since I'm playing Daeran). And they can't do it better either since they'd need to burn a Mythic to get Standard Dazzling at a -5 penalty and I'm getting it with several bonuses at lvl 6. Doesn't need Weapon Focus either (though Shatter will).

I'm not wasting a Turn, I'm spending a Standard Action, which isn't that much when I'll do five times as much damage with a Full in Dragonform. Everything I'm putting into it is one Feat (Intimidating Prowess) in a class that eventually gets a ton of Bonus Feats. The class comes with a scaling bonus to Intimidate already.

When you gotta Move you gotta Move. You can spend the leftover Standard on a big whack with a Two-hander, a good CM, a Freebooter's Bane, or here I'm using it on a dominant AoE Intimidate because I'm designing a build that will eventually get the most out of Gold Dragon so will be using a lot of Natural Attacks that rely on Full Actions to get the most out of them.

You've got better things to do than negative endgame theorycrafting. Leave that to the anklebiters.

With 7 characters in melee eligible for getting extra attacks off crits from outflank or seize the moment, I'd definitely take a masterwork Fauchard over a +1 glaive or bardiche.
Bardiche that drops in Daeran's Mansion is also Cold Iron so works well until you get the Relic. Sounds like you've already got the crit chain triggering well covered. I hear there's a Glaive that causes Fear too.

The odd thing is that both KM and Wrath give you two serviceable divine full casters to choose from with different strengths and weaknesses but stick you with a single arcane full caster who has abjuration and necromancy as barred schools (plus a bonus dead level if you don't want to go Arcane Trickster in Octavia's case). I wish they'd adopt Pillars 2's approach to companion classes where you can choose between two or three thematically appropriate classes upon first recruiting each one. It'd be neat to be able to have the option of recruiting Ember as a witch, sorc, or oracle, for example.

I don't see how it would work for the personal arcs of Octavia or Nenio. And if to provide such choice the characters will have to be more... balanced... then I don't think I would like it, either.

I think they use the companions to nudge people to try out new stuff, learn how it works, then build the confidence that they can do the same with their own builds.

It's a big ruleset and most people don't even scratch the surface.

Just give option of retraining companions to level 1 so autists don't have panic attacks because apparently it's impossibru to have a viable build is with 17 dips to chose from instead of 20.

Then people just cram everything into crappy memes, nerf themselves, then cry for Owlcat to make the game easier.

Simpler to learn how to suck less. I have confidence you can do that yourself IHaveHugeNick. You've done it in other games.

Well it is impossible to teach someone who has lvl 6 fighter with fearing glaive in his hands and uses Dazzling Display to suck less.

The only character I sometimes think of retraining is Nenio. Not only because being a bird brained Arcanist seems to really fit her but also because I'm a scrub and I want my pet BFT. Grunker levels of 'what if the dwarf was a monk' is just too experimental and possibly scandinavian for me.

Isles run, all equipment is random drops so you mostly buy stuff. Using all the same weapon has the minor advantage of being able to have characters use hand-me-downs.

I wish they'd let you retrain characters to different archetypes. Wanting to try out a specific archetype and not being able to use the companion of that class kind of sucks when you either need a merc or to bastardize another character into the archetype.

Some kind of expanded retraining option would be suitable as a NG+ reward.

Yeah, that's a good point. Switching companion archetypes would make it mucho more experimentation friendly. No idea really why they've made it so restrictiive, when the entire appeal of the ruleset is that you can dick around with weird shit.
