    Richard Cobbett piece.

It's not a bad list, but Telltale figures in it and I feel there's too much emphasis on Lucasarts - which is understandable. There's also a criminal lack of first person adventure games.

The list has been updated again (previous update was about one year ago). Now the list includes about 40 games.

Yes to Nelly Cootalot but no to Space Quest IV? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Try Hard 2: Try Harder. (I like Nelly Cootalot a lot (!) and backed it on Kickstarter, but this is a little dodgy.)

Also, I think Pajama Sam should probably be on the list if we're just going for maximal coverage of the genre. It's the pinnacle of that subset.

As much as i like DOTT, Monkey 2 should be the first in any adventure list.

Meh. All these lists are wildly subjective anyway. I for one am outraged that there is no Dune up there. It was such an unique adventure game.

The sad part is Richard Cobbett contributed to this. Even in the old list where he was the sole writer he included crap like Gone Home.

I used to think the guy was one of the few monocled individuals in mainstream game media with his classic adventure and rpg columns but this ... :negative:

Maybe, when you reach the point where you have a list of actual good games. Quality is not subjective.

I mean, they have a QFG5 picture under the QFG4 listing, that's how lazy these hacks are.

The list is filled with modern 'indie' garbage and Telltale style non-games that even the 3rd tier Sierra adventures wouldn't wipe their asses with. Discworld Noir and not the others (hahaha), Monkey Island 1 but not 2 (which is superior in every way and that's not even debatable), no Primordia, etc. I was honestly kind of half expecting an entry for that shitty NuKQ, that's how bad this is.

The only moderate incline is the mention of Callahan's Crosstime Salloon, which is a truly monocled game. Whoever continued to add to this list is probably a millenial whose knowledge of adventure games is reading a few Wiki entries.

Yeah... this is one of the lists that screams click bait; even a cursory scan of the article suggests that the writer had not played many of the games they are writing about (to say nothing of the skewed proportion of games from the last 3 years present on the list). Too bad.

Also: the absence of Primordia and Heroine's Quest automatically invalidate this list. Both are easily top 20 adventures.

From the article, about Sierra adventures:

"Officially, their in-game motto was, “Save early, save often.” Really, it should’ve been “buy a walkthrough.”

If that sentence doesn't exemplify decline, I don't know what does.

Oh, and there's not ONE SINGLE game by Legend Entertainment in that list. Let that sink in for a minute. As I grow older, I realize that Legend made perhaps the best adventure games of all time. I replay Legend games more often than the other adventures games I grew up with (and I was a Sierra nut when I was younger)

You might disagree with that, but not including at least ONE Legend game in a list like this is quite frankly idiotic. He could have even picked one of the (lesser) graphical adventures that are not parser-based, such as Companions of Xanth.

    What a fucking disgrace.

You could make an argument that it's a "graphic adventure" list, but even so, it's ridiculous.
