"Less hype". But to be fair, it's likely not the same reviewer in most of those cases.

One thing I don't get about the reviews is how most of them call Deadfire an improvement and then give it the same or lower rating.
IGN – 8.5 vs 9.0
Ragequit – 92 vs 99
Gamestar – 92 both
PC Gamer – 88 vs 92
Gamespot – 80 vs 80

:hmmm:
Is it the lack of novelty? The crowded market? The lighter-themed main story?
you really think they check the old score?

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
Eisenheinrich I think that's because the steam store only shows you regional topsellers when you check it directly through the steam app.

Huh, you're right. Checked worldwide, just fourth place. Guess I have to apologize, dragonul09!

I think you don't see it in the local bestsellers if you own the game or some such.

Also is it really SJW-infested? Codex is usually sensitive to that and I haven't seen many comments about that yet.

Is this game for real, it doesn't let you access the ability tree outside of leveling up? Am I missing something here?

None of the above. It's the Paradox Interactive Marketing Budget Factor.

Ah `Hellion at least explains it:
Coming back to the start with regards to the “trouble” of being the reviewer of Deadfire, another aspect of my “woe” is that of the necessary evil: the grade. My general conclusion explicitly states that Deadfire is a “wholly improved sequel in every aspect”. However, back in the day I graded POE1 with 99% for many and different reasons, which may have had merit during the time of the review but not necessarily so after 3 years. In hindsight, a score of 87-88% may have been more just, but alas, scripta manent and grades should not be changed (if only to keep reliable consistency with Metacritic).

Kudos!

I haven't noticed anything in the first few hours. Can't even give your human character pastel coloured tumblr hair, which is a must for any SJW game.

As I'm not playing this game till after the first patches I wonder how good the dungeons are in Deadfire. First game had some very good dungeons (Temple of Eothas, Mines of Stalwart) and some very bland ones (Maw of Galawain, some levels of Od Nua). How do the dungeons of Deadfire compare to these?

Man the accent of Xoti...:lol::lol: Straight outta Arkansas or something
This game setting is basically accents for everyone.

I find it super weird how every vailian inserts his own words into every sentence. I don't go around cykablyating in my every sentence when I use english. It would haven been ok for uneducated sailors to do this, but everyone does it.

Wait, what language is everybody actually "really" speaking? In PoE1, it was assumed that everybody was actually speaking Aedyran, which happens to be identical to English for your convenience. But they wouldn't be speaking Aedyran in the Deadfire, right?

How do the launch week Steamspy sales calculations compare to the first game?

There is also that book I found on glanfaderpfan language which is written in a hilariously modern way. It talks all the linguistic nuances yet it is called "simple glanfathan". Imagine teaching any medieval villager or soldier about difference in pwgra and pygra with every little detail behind it. If it's "simple dictionary" just write word > meaning that's it. These are not in world books, they should be renamed into "designer's commentary".

Wait, what language is everybody actually "really" speaking? In PoE1, it was assumed that everybody was actually speaking Aedyran, which happens to be identical to English for your convenience. But they wouldn't be speaking Aedyran in the Deadfire, right?
Well uh

....eh?

Would be hilarious if this game pulls off a Grimrock; people consider it better, but sells like shit compared to the first one.

Most pirates and everyone affiliated with the Vailian Trading Company speak the pseudo-Italian language supposedly spoken in the Vailian Republics, and they do have a tendency to start every sentence with a word of their own language, which is really cringeworthy as a practice.

Btw after reading lots and lots of journal on combat resolution and other mechanics I can say I really appreciate how designer tried to create something similar but more effective and balanced than D&D 3.5 and ended up with something way more complicated than it should be. It is still not easy to find a good read on just how the fuck things like accuracy, pen, power levels and other stuff work together without clicking between many many tabs and LONG tips (enough to not fit the screen sometimes) and messages furiously.

There are also things which are supposed to be explained (or explained later) but happen early in the game (like you get a lot of supplies and get icons and ability to buy supplies for your crew and boat before actually getting any of these things).

This is not a problem for a gamer but if they really wanted to make this more approachable by casuals then, with only thing helping about combat being gigantic loads of text and rules in journal and other things not getting correct pacing and introduction, I can say they did poor job. (add to this: not being able to check on skill trees outside from leveling up, not being able to just right click on things like companions to talk to them - have to use special button instead, and so on)
