In Obsidian games, the best writing is usually with the companions. We didn't see any of that in the beta.

Lel i finished BG1 with summoning creatures by wands all game, even on Sarevok fight. I also used Fireballs sometimes. No else..

Also mines with cobolds and Gnoll fortress were the trash mob fest at his best. I don't think BG1 was better than Poe1 at all.

BG2 had more variety as did IWD 1 & 2. Really, there were just more mage duels and more enemies that were immune to your go-to spells and weapons; it wasn’t that much better. The main difference, per Lacrymas, was that trash mobs didn’t feel like a chore. Then again IWD2’s infinite penalty free resting made the trash mobs pointless.

I actually liked Pillars 3.0, but I felt as though there was no difficulty setting that was both challenging and non-tedious. For me combat in POTD just took too long. Combat is like the main course of an RPG, but I start to lose interest if I go too long without getting my dialogue dessert.

You don't see "everyone" shitting on the game. You see 3-4 people circle jerking and then when some news come out, others join in for a while. Happens in almost every thread in here

Videogames can feel meaningless, that's up to the player. Some prefer to select all and right click, others prefer to select one - click his active ability - click the next... Feels so much more tactical and engaging.

No one made you rest spam. Everyone should quit whining about rest spamming being possible.

Similarly, no one makes you use the same tactics in every fight in PoE, even though that's the optimal way to go.
Also no one makes you use the 9458345 wands in BG or use mass summons or or or

But all of these are actual features of the games and if they make them less fun then it's bad design

When you put it this way, yes, probably many of the encounters can be passed without even using per-encounter abilities.

But then we'll have to drop the argument that PoE's combat is any kind of improvement over the IE games' combat.

So you you can auto-attack your way through most of BG games.

There is no resource management whatsover--press rest and you are good as new.

You are showered with uber magical weapons that make your team overpowered.

There is where the romance thing started.

So BIOWARE WAS ALWAYS A DISGRACE, and yet SOME BG APOLOGISTS here want us to believe that not only these games were classics, but the sequels of PoE will finally capture the magical formula of this decline hell; that Obsidian actually wanted to make decent games and care about feedback. I don't even... You know what? I don't care. Fuck it. I'm out. Life is too short.

The developer implemented something that amounts to infinite health potions in your inventory.

    Players will use these potions.

You: "No one made you use those infinite health potions. It’s your fault, even if it’s a core basic mechanic of the game."

Players should be blamed for abusing broken mechanics. Makes perfect sense.

It's not a core basic mechanic. Re-read the already old argument that's lastly been repeated around 10 pages back.

The number of dumb fucks who seem to discover for the first time in their lives that videogame mechanics are abusable... and then pretend they are something else because they are posting on the "RPG Codex"

The game has a fucking button in your inventory that allows you to restore your health and somewhat this is not a game mechanic. Imagine how delusional and irrational you need to be in order to ignore this basic fact.

Huh reputation system. Looks nice. Also question to beta tester - is it same as last time? "Mid" game content and access to mid-game spells?

The idea of romancing characters first appeared in the SSI Gold Box games. Bioware never did have an original thought of their own.

Of course, romance in the Gold Box games was handled with class and dignity, and was not intrusive. Unlike bioware/obsidian romance simulators, but that's another story.

Any further information about the music? I don't think I heard a single track from Deadfire yet.
