Mind lance is good, the tank one at lvl 4 is good too. 10 dr and a bigger heal than priests can provide.

PoE is actually the best Vancian system yet in a video game, since you can swap in grimoires. I'm really coming to appreciate the strategic value of them and the way they work, especially the ones loaded with offensive spells that free up utility and special-use slots in your primary grimoire.

:what:

I haven't swapped Grimoires once. Most Grimoires you find have THE SAME FOUR FUCKING SPELLS

- You have tonnes of gold, so writing a spell to your Grimoire is trivial after like I dunno first half of Act 1.

- You can scout ahead to see what enemies are up ahead and swap spells in your grimoire slots

- I have swapped spells over a grand total of twice in the game (not counting adding new ones).

That said, I don't mind the grimoire system - but you definitely don't need multiple grimoires, or need to change grimoires in combat at all.

Yea, I never did either, since you can't memorise additional spells aside from leveling AFAICT, I just used what I liked or sounded familiar.

There are no unique spells even in most epic of grimoires, that's the dissapointing part. To work around it they could have added unique spells that could be locked to a specific grimoire so you couldn't learn them and had to actually swap grimoires.
I found Minoletta's grimoire, for example. Guess what it had in it? :M
yeah u have three tries

What the hell is wrong with enemy balance. At level 2 I was fighting lvl 7 mobs ,now at level 7 all baddies are lvl 1-2.I'm literally one shooting(they even explode lol) assassins now ,as before it took 5 min in 3-4 damage glancing hits battles with some Trolls.
There was a fight where it could had continued indefinitely between my fighter and a Troll, both with higher defence and outregening the damage.

There's little to no special items for specific classes in general, those that I've found were either horribly shitty, bugged or boring. The best were those extra spell per rest rings.

Oh... why, so you can. I'd just always assumed you'd fuck your spells-per-day up somehow if you rearranged the spells in your grimoire.

I think one way they could have made grimoires more interesting was to make them a proper piece of equipment with stats. Perhaps introduce special effects on them like reduced casting or recovery time?

Grimoire switching is, like many things with this game, a promising and underdeveloped idea; in practice, you never have to switch them around, but it would be an interesting tactical decision (there's even a talent for faster switching) if there were any benefits to it - such as being able to cast more spells per rest, free encounter spells, or perhaps unique effects on the spells themselves depending on the grimoire, or even entirely unique spells that are only able to be cast from one particular book.

I would like to see that idea expanded in the future.

A grimoire can only hold up to 4 spells for every spell level.

In practice however, there are only 4 or so useful spells for every spell level, so there is never actually a reason to switch grimoires.

Oh come on, I've found a lot of new spells in Grimoires.

It's true that swapping is never necessary though :| I've been hanging on to Maerwald's Grimoire but I never found the need for two. Should at the very least require resting to change spell lists. Or make writing spells into a Grimoire permanent.

At higher levels of play, I found quite a bit of grimoires with newer spells in em.

I even found grimoires that had spells, my wizard couldnt even use yet, because of higher spell level. So meh.

Od Nua especially. There's like 3-4 grimoires with all kinds of spells in em at levels 13-15.. the dragon treasure too..

Would have been great to get specialists or something to write in the book and place spells in your grimoire unless you get a talent or something. Probably busy extra work but would have been great.

Also about crafting and cooking and all that would have been great to use crafting stations or something, like in the stronghold you build a kitchen and library and crafting something but you don't use them and the only benefit is a useless +1 resting bonus.

Wow, they really cranked up the price of those creature summon figurines. Too bad I didn't buy them all before the patches.

Yeah, they haven't commented on it that I know if. It's a TC Solo attempt staple, and there was a guy trying Barb solo runs using the animat to block phantoms so he could cast Fan of Flames scrolls to wipe them in the Stronghold without getting stunlocked.

It's official: We are playing a single-player MMO.

Fortunately, past Act 2 there's no real need to summon anything with figurines, and not much need before then, either.

Yeah, the recent patch has put me in this weird Burning Crusade-era WoW deja vu where I'm expecting anything and everything fun that doesn't conform to instance grinding (just general PoE combat grinding in this case) to be stamped out.

I really, really don't get all this "balance" hate.

I can understand not liking specific balance changes, but the mere fact the game keeps getting balance changes after release? Don't get it.
