Playing games is not an accomplishment: How video games make you retarded.

Better to fail as a genius than to succeed as a kotick or some other shitstain.
:obviously:

Well, I dunno if freezing to death in some back ally is preferrable to swimming in money and spending it lavishly on whores and video games.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
raw is way too materialistic and cannot into idealism

This is what every Codexer should strive to be:

Some drunk hobo living in a barrel claiming to be a philosopher and being all smug and thinking himself superior to everyone while being drunk all day.

Well, he was kind of an ass and not a very likeable person. I'm not much of a fan either, but you have to admit that he'd be the perfect Codexer.
And in what way does the pic surprise you?

Will telling drug addicts that drugs are bad stop them from using drugs? No.

I wish I could stop playing games, but ...

People are butthurt about guys playing games for the same reasons feminists are also butthurt. Because when you are playing games you are not out there to slave away at some "job" so somebody else can enjoy the fruits of your work, whether its a wimmin or some corporate fat cat. Since nerds cannot get with wimmin to begin with that leaves corporate gain. Might as well play games at that point. This is what we call "progress" you see, as opposed to traditional societies where every activity actually had meaning beyond mere material gain.

Sucess in life means earning enough income to support a family and to be able to finance your own and your families dreams/hobbies. Those hobbies may include computer gaming or something else, like sports.

The modern world in a nutshell. Wow.

That's self-deluded. I'd much rather be a handsome, playboy billionaire than a lonely 30+ gamer.
A playboy billionaire can become a gamer if he wants at any moment, a lonely 30+ gamer can't be anything than a gamer and mediocre something else as his main job.
If I could stop being happy from playing games, I would. But I can't. Games make me happy, but very sad in the long term :(

Diogenes is like Socrates in negative. I was making a joke since both philosophers ran into Plato and since there really is no Socrates, only that which Plato wrote of him, by the same token there is no Diogenes (since nothing of what he wrote actually survived), only that which ran against Plato.

Now excuse me while i return to my barrel.

That is an illusion. Billionaires can't stop being billionaires. These are the kinds of people who commit suicide when they lose half their fortune, even though that still leaves them absurdly wealthy. We are all prisoners of our own desires, and wealthy people desire wealth far more than they desire entertainment, justice, or knowledge. If they didn't, someone more obsessed with wealth than they are would come along and screw them out of their money before long, and they would spend their money on the things I just mentioned, instead of on acquiring more money.

If you quit playing video games you will have extra time.

If you have extra time you could use that to work. But you don't have to. There are alternative activities that you could be doing.

For example, because they avoid video games (and sports), Islamic fundamentalists have a lot of extra time to exert political and cultural influence, go on jihad and plot to butcher their enemies. It's not a coincidence that they are winning or at least holding the line almost everywhere in the world.

If young Western men avoided video games (and spectator sports), they could exert more political influence and (in theory) make their countries less terrible to live in. And they could plot to butcher (or at least overthrow) those elements are responsible for keeping their countries terrible.

That's why Islamic militants forbid people from watching sports or playing video games.

"We used to watch movies. They were banned. Now the PlayStations we had fun with are also banned. This country is not for young people like me," said Abdirahman Hirsi, a 19-year-old from Lafole town.

"They have basically banned everything that is fun, so we feel increasingly bored," said another boy.

Abdi Moge, an older resident in the village, argued that there were few alternatives to occupy young people other than joining an armed group.

"Who knows what else the children are going to do now. It's not as if there was proper education for them. The more they are prevented from playing, the more likely they are to join the fighting," he said.

In the Juba Valley rebel militias went further, saying young men should not watch football - even in the privacy of their own homes - because it would "distract them from pursuing holy jihad."
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10307512

Unfortunately for them, Western men don't have a holy jihad to pursue, but they do have some pressing matters that they really ought to deal with.

Wow, I never felt as glad about having things like Call of Duty and big sports world cups as I feel now.

Money gives you options. No money = no options. If you burn it, your choice.

Don't have to be a billion, that was just a far-out extreme example to contrast with "lonely 30-yr old nerd".
