Hey Ardboy - cheers - the (seeming) cyber-attack is a less well trod route to the apocalypse and gave rise to the possibility of artificial intelligences growing out of corrupted computer systems. There will be at least one major AI in each act - in act 1, it's a side quest, but in act 2, the AI, morgOS, will be attacking the faction you are backing up using its servitor minions.

Development Plans: Short & Medium Term
Hi, thanks for stopping by to check out Prometheus Wept! Here's some basic information on the short and medium terms plans for development. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please let me know!

Short Term Plan: A focus on bug-fixes and improving user-friendliness
The recent focus has been improving the game, based on helpful feedback from Kickstarter backers. Bug fixes have and will continue to be the highest priority. Unfortunately, spending 1000s of hours on a game creates such a level of familiarity that it's difficult to identify the unintuitive and the poorly explained.

So far, the crafting & character screens have been highlighted as benefiting from more attention, along with help screens to better explain the more complex UIs. These will be worked on in the near future. I'm looking forward to getting fresh perspectives to help improve this, and other, aspects of Prometheus Wept. As soon as enough rough edges have been smoothed, I'll move on to...

Medium Term Plan: Develop Act 2
In act 2, we'll leave behind the verdant forests of Sunny Pines, and take the perilous journey through the Valley of Wrath. The primary threat here are strange creatures, former humans, trapped in an indeterminate state between life and death, by corrupted digital implants which have hi-jacked their nervous systems.

At the far end of the Valley, we'll arrive at Salvage One. It is a desolate place, the sky perpetually darkened by the dust thrown up by the inexplicable number of satellites which come crashing down to the earth here. The salvage from these satellites provides the living for the inhabitants of Salvage One, who have come under attack from two distinct groups: the twisted servitors of the AI, MorgOS, and a group of murderous humans. It will be up to you to support Salvage One, defending the camp as you undermine and eliminate each hostile group.

The current plan is to make ~3 updates over the duration of act 2's development, when a sufficient amount of gameplay (~2 hours) has been added. Smaller updates to improve stability and smooth out the rough edges will follow each gameplay update. With each of these larger updates, new perks, items and sometimes, player party members will be added. It will take some months to make each larger update, but I will post regular development updates, likely every 6-8 weeks, to keep you up to date with progress.

Prometheus Wept V0.638 is out now!
A quality of life focused update based on your feedback!

Prometheus Wept version 0.638 is now available to download. The focus is primarily quality of life improvements, with some bug fixes, based on your feedback. I had a report of an issue with ultra widescreen monitors, and if you've experienced an issue (or it's working for you), please consider dropping in here.
This is the first step to improving the game. Tomorrow, I'll start working on the next update, which will focus on in-game help screens, UI improvements and your suggestions.

Quality of Life Improvements:​

  • Greatly improved the visibility of the icon for characters who can be interacted with. (The Mogician)

  • You will now be warned if you attempt to leave a map to which you can't return. (Shining Hector)
  • Added better information for the "Mummified" status affect, along with a toggle in the healing interface, which will warn you if you're applying bandages too often. (cssneed)
  • Started a Steam guide, which is linked in game. This will be expanded as I get feedback on less well explained systems.
  • Highlight is now a toggle, enabling you to more easily see objects which can be looted / interacted with. (The Mogician)
  • Fixed a typo (Shining Hector)

Bug Fixes:​

  • Increased the size of the collider which triggers the fight with Antuan in Homestead Heights, to make it easier to progress. (Murkki017)
  • Fixed an issue where the efficient harvest perk was not being applied to some objects. (Shining Hector)
  • Fixed a couple of maps where not all objects were being highlighted. (Shining Hector)
  • Fixed repair kit MK 3 being the same as the MK2 version (Shining Hector)

Character UI Update
Hi there,
Hope you're having a nice weekend! Here's a quick look at one of the improvements coming next week. It has been pointed out that give the number of stats, skills and derived stats, it can be difficult to understand how all the elements of the character systems work together. To address this, I've added code to highlight related elements when you mouse over a stat or skill.

At a glance, we can tell that the Dexterity Stat affects 5 skills, and two derived stats. Thanks for all the feedback so far, it's been a great help in improving the game!

Quality of Life Improvements:​

A more readable character screen:​

There are quite a few stats, derived stats and skills in Prometheus Wept. This can make it challenging to piece together the relationship between the various components of the character system. With the newest update, mousing over a stat or derived stat will highlight all related attributes, allowing you to quickly come to grips with the character system.

Improved Resolution Support:​

Prometheus Wept gathers all available resolutions your monitor can support at startup. High resolution monitors can have a LOT of potential resolutions, which can mean a lot of clicks to find the right one. Version 0.640 first tries to match the current resolution of your main desktop monitor. If there's an issue, or you'd prefer another resolution, you can use the aspect ratio selector in graphics options. After doing so, each click to change resolution will skip to the next instance of this resolution.

I've added a number of help screens to the game, so you can get better information on what each of the user interfaces do. Whenever a help screen is available, the button indicated above will be visible. If you click on it, a screen which highlights key functionality will appear:

  • Fixed a collider not being disabled, allowing the same encounter in Homestead Heights to play repeatedly. (Murkki017)

  • After the “Rabble Rouser” quest, it is possible to become trapped behind a temporary all, forinc ghr player to use the map to continue. (LDICesare)

Prometheus Wept v0.642 released & a summary of QOL updates to date
Hi there-

Prometheus Wept v0.642 has just gone live. This update adds a navigation helper system and addresses a bug. I intend to continue working on quality of life in the short term, so if you find an aspect of the game difficult to interact with or understand, please let me know!

Quality of Life: Navigation Helper​

The navigation helper, enabled by default, displays icons at the edges of the screen to help you locate merchants, other interactable characters, and quest locations.
