The Last Express: Has amazing artwork, works in real-time, over 30 endings, and the characters have their own lives/personality
It Came from the Desert: Humorous B-movie action-adventure game. It has good c&c, uses real-time as well, and you have 15 days to defeat the ants
Rise of the Dragon: It's Blade Runner + Heart of China

Seconding The Last Express. Absolutely fantastic adventure game; charming artwork, great script, superb voice-acting and the only true real-time game I know of.

Gabriel Knight: Sins of the fathers. Nice setting, interesting well-researched background story, quite atmospheric.
