Homeworld 3 must have had quite the impact if its not even been out a month and they hate the protagonist even more than the main character of the game which killed the media darling that was Mass Effect.

Homeworld 3's protag/story is so laughably bad I refuse to believe humans wrote that shit.

I feel like they were testing out AI or some shit.

Don't these fucks realise A.I. will take their jobs on every creative field imaginable? They should stand up to the artificial future while they still can.

Human revolution now!

Reddit is full of insufferable faggots and literal bots. No one cares what either of those have to say.

All that list tells me is that those people have very short memories.

Or are a bunch of preteens.

I am surprised they didn't list 90s FPS protagonists in there...

Funny how M morales is annoying as a character AND his voice-actor as well. And he wears fucking Nikes as part of his costume.

Vaan is fine as a secondary character in Tactics A2 (where his entire characterization is ditched for cocky trickster rogue with a hint of shonen rival), and apparently OK in Revenant Wings (which I've never played and likely never will since it's a touch screen focused game on top of everything else). Otherwise I'm surprised even the most cancerous part of the cancer of the internet can agree shit characters are shit. Especially so with Bendis Morales since he'd normally be protected from any negative views by screaming about his race (edit: and is recent enough there's still a narrative of protect Sweet Baby's shit).

Duke Nukem was mentioned. Personally I would include him too. But not the REAL duke. 90s Duke is a FPS GOAT. Duke Nukem Forever 2011 Duke however is a sad pathetic joke that alongside his starring title perfectly exemplifies the steep decline of game design from the 90s to 2010.

-Long, unnecessary drawn out toilet humor. Tasteless jokes and material in general.
-Mocks other modern games for being dumb, even though this game is exactly the same dumb game design if not worse than those he mocks. And considerably worse than 90s Duke games of course.
-Doesn't shut up ever, like a feminist.
-Needs alcohol to lay the serious smackdown, unlike steroids in the OG. One is far more realist and sensible than the other. If you want to look like Duke Nukem, the only way is steroids. In fact the 90s game and character is just more mature, charming, intelligent and realist across the board unlike this pathetic misleading caricature. Whoever wrote the original is a bro. Whoever wrote the 2011 Duke Nukem is a total faggot. Though isn't solely to blame as the events of the game further add to his lack of class, e.g programming the ability to pick up shit out of the toilet bowl and toss it around. Pure controversy bait in that regard, probably. And 100% tasteless.

Duke Nukem is the lamest character of all. He's remembered for quoting lines from real legends like Bruce Campbell and Rowdy Rod Piper. Wow, impressive. Maybe I should be famous too because I've also quoted them a million times.

First of all he isn't some deep character, absolutely not, but he was more than movie quotes you little simp. Actually play the games, 3D & Zero Hour especially. Hopefully he will whoop your ass in to shape that is desperately needed i.e maybe you will stop pathetically simping over real and fictional women in every other thread and will also learn a thing or two about good game design.

I'm sorry I'm not impressed by a shitty action hero who's sole gimmick is spouting off pop culture references. It's lazy.

You miss the point. It is supposed to be this way to not impede on the real intent - the gameplay and other. Not all games need written story, especially when they can tell one through the player experience, environments and events. A story would add very little to the game. Other 90s devs did try with the console dukes, which is where most of his character "depth" I love comes from to be fair, but they still keep it very short and not at all the priority. They could have opened and closed with minimal context just like Duke Nukem 3D and not have been any less awesome, just like 3D.

You should also really form a habit of holding your tongue if you have not played the games in question.

You don't need to play the games or be a genius to understand what he is. I'm not one to try and tell people they can't like him. I'm just saying I never understood the appeal of that type of character.

I'd expect The Boss & Friends from Nu-Saint's Row to rank pretty high.

But if they're not, then that's a testement to how few people actually bothered to play it.
This would have to be the case, because it's incredibly hard to like the crew in Saints Row. That whole game is an absolute cluster fuck of retardedry. Even the idea that they're all in criminal gangs in order to pay student loans is a serious "WTF were you thinking?" plot point. If you're willing to rob banks and shit, why are you paying student loans anyway? Also, why are you all in different gangs? Those gangs have never crossed paths? You can't get a spot for your three homies in your gang? Saints Row has always relied on some suspension of disbelief, but the levels you need to have just to get in to that game are hurdles way too high.

Duke was perhaps a bit too low brow as a character. The thing about action movie heroes is that they act unironically in their films. Be it Rambo, Commando, Die Hard, or Army of Darkness. None of those films are self-referential or deprecating, they're overthetop yes, but they take themselves seriously. Duke Nukem on the other hand is a joke character. Things happen because it's a joke.

That may have been fine for a few games, but if he was going to have any staying power he needed to become a character in his own right. The 2001 version of Duke Nukem Forever seemed like it was going to be more unironic, but by the time the game actually came out, well, you know the rest.

I refer to the Gearbox Duke as "Douche Nukem". I can't take the credit for that, but it's fitting considering how he is in DNF.

From what I've seen about the leaked OLD version of Duke Nukem Forever, Duke was presented way better than he was in what Gearbox coughed up.
