Resident Evil Village - now featuring giant vampire MILFs

What's the alternative?

Resident Evil's way of giving you a shotgun but still managing to make things tense/suspenseful because you don't know what's coming and when you'll want to use this shotgun (on first playthroughs). On replays you start to get a better feel of what you can/can't get away with in certain rooms and maximizing the efficiency of your gunplay is what makes it fun.

On the contrast, running away all the time is boring and makes those types of games one-and-dones. Alien: Isolation, great game... for the first time. Absolute boring slog the second go-around and it starts to really lose the magic when you get the flamethrower and the xenomorph becomes a mere annoyance you just shoo away while going from A to B.

Resident Evil games are fun, run-like-a-bitch games are for fake streamer reactions.

Please don't say shit about Alien Isolation. If you play that game on the hardest difficulty, you barely have enough fuel to spray the flamethrower for more than say, 1 second, which isn't enough to make the alien retreat. And even if you do have enough fuel, it'll just come back to fuck you up, and you won't have any fuel left. The hardest difficulty in Alien Isolation involves avoiding the alien as much as possible. If it gets close enough to you to make you have to spray it, you've already lost.

I played Alien Isolation on the hardest setting available (there's another even harder difficulty, but it was patched in later). Had no problems with flamethrower fuel and Alien indeed became less of a threat in the latter half of the game.

Now you are lying. Later in the game you have multiple aliens to contend with.

"This game is too easy!"

Alien: Isolation is a one-and-done game. After you beat it you'll find little to no reason to ever come back to it unless a major amount of time has passed. Playing it on the hardest difficulty setting won't magically enhance the game experience, if anything replays make games like this get exposed hard because you know what to expect and when to expect it and how to deal with it. Even on the first playthrough the whole running and evading the xenomorph loses tension roughly halfway in, the flamethrower only compounds it becoming less of a threat and more of an annoying reminder. It becomes like someone you don't want to talk to always phoning you at random times.

Alien is a masterpiece of cinema, but it doesn't make for a well paced game.

Alien Isolation is absolute mediocrity. Sham game, much like these modern Resident Evils. One and done? How about none and done. Play some legit horror games instead. There's many.
Alien the movie is indeed a masterpiece of cinema.

This story/dialogue situation is bad enough I want to write a whole post about it. The narrative and the actual words spoken are just unbelievably fucking bad.

I always go into a Resident Evil game expecting good story and dialogue.

This is a lazy defense. The dialog in RE2 Remake was better than this by a mile, no contest. Voice actors were better, actual written dialogue was better, and the story was classic RE2 (which made more sense than RE, to be fair, except the whole ridiculous idea of a former museum being used as a police station).

Beneviento house is only like 30 minutes long on your first playthrough and 5 minutes long on subsequent ones.

I personally didn't even find that Beneviento house scary in the slightest or unnerving. All the RE8 villains are basically Metal Gear Solid characters with some silly gimmick but not as memorable.

I was more talking about games that base the entirety of their horror experience of you running away all the time.

My wife is pregnant so maybe baby-related things are more resonant right now but two things about this:

1) Rose is an ugly, creepy ass little CGI baby. If I was Ethan Winters I'd thank mommy vampire for hauling that weird little thing away, find some hot trad-wife Romanian broad, knock her up, and make a better looking kid.

2)

The goo-baby-monster chasing you around the doll house was a little unnerving, especially with the mangled "Dada!" thrown into the terrific sound design. Genuinely well done.

They hated Drakortha because he told them the truth.

Nah he's the Resident Evil equivalent of Oneself. Any valid points he has are completely destroyed by the pointless repetition of the same opinion ad nauseum.

I can imagine how grating it would be if, unlike me, you didn't agree.

It's become clear that the Fanboys just want another echo chamber where they can jack off to RE porn and memes together, it's disgusting. Criticism of RE and Crapcom is not allowed unless you pull your punches.

Most of this thread has turned into edgelord negativity to be honest.

In the fans' defense, getting the third installment of PT so soon is pretty exciting.

Are you serious? Plenty of people here are badmouthing the new game. Difference is they actually have something to say about it besides "RE BAD NOW I HATE CAPCOM WAAAAAH".

Write something you haven't already said 500 times and you might be worth reading. Otherwise go out into the fields and scream at the sun, it's a better use of your energy.

I returned it this morning (our equivalent to Gamestop allows console game returns within the first 7 days). Despite full time work, kids etc I managed to finish it in <week and the post-main game content (NG+, Mercenaries etc) doesn't appeal to me.

It's a bit of a strange beast...I think it would have been better served if the Euro-gothic horror theme wasn't shoehorned into a storyline set in contemporary times. I got the impression the different hubs were all designed by different teams and the quality varies a lot.

One thing I'd like to see in RE games going forward is some better indicators your hits are landing (particularly on bosses). It's kind of frustrating pumping rounds into enemies and having no idea how close they are to death or if you're even being effective.

It was a fun enough experience with some really great moments but I have no desire to go back anytime soon. Can't say I remember ever feeling frightened either although the sound design was quite good in places.
