Most teasers these days are a joke. It's not any worse than many other teasers out there. That's not saying much, though.

Just like in real life, the teasers get raped by posters on RPG Codex.

Sadly, I pretty much have written off PB. With all the turn based INCLINE lately, this stuff used to fill a gap. Now I have no interest in action stuff since I now can play GLORIOUS turn based games.

I'm sorry, but I don't see all the glorious extra-open world RPGs with lots of verticality that could fill the PB gap anywhere :x

Well that goes without saying. Especially when most PB games launch with a ton of bugs and poor optimization.

I thought depth of field was for performance, not appearance. Isn't it implemented for much the same reason as draw distance? I.e. for people whose rigs will struggle to render the maximum view in detail?

Some games use it to hide shit distance textures, other use it purely to emulate movies... off the top of my head I know Borderlands looks fine in the distance without it. Risen 2 looked alright without it, but definitely had some ugly distance textures on occasion.

Doesn't Depth of Field actually worsen performance? I thought, like blur, images are already rendered and then they go and fuck it all up for 'REALISM' purposes.

Depth of field is mostly used to create a cinematic presentation in games, that is to shift focus from one character to another in cutscenes. This creates an impression that the point of view is an actual person who changes the focus of his eyes. Watch the intro cutscene of Twitcher 1 on maximum settings for a good example. And, of course, depth of field decreases performance because it is an another effect that has to be rendered by the graphics engine.

But you can render distant objects with less detail and use depth of field to cover up the reduced quality at a distance. So you can increase performance by using depth of field, if you do it right. But only if you do it right, otherwise it does cost performance, though it should not be much.

Depth of field also has the ability to look good, it just doesn't very often. I thought Witcher 2 used "world" depth of field very well and I left it on in that game. Rather than in your face camera emulation it made for hazy distance shots while walking around that looked much better than a big clunky shit texture. I think the game also had shitty dialog depth of field under a different option as well, so you can see good depth of field and bad all in one game.

The problem games like Risen 2 run into is they're too aggressive with it, making the blurry distance like 20 feet from the PC and making it feel like you have vision problems.

For a game releasing so soon, its troubling that there hasn't been any gameplay shown and detailed info on game systems, i guess this will be the usual shovelware with a brand attached.

Thats all the info the site gives... and 3 screenshots if you can call the overly photoshopped images that.

To be fair, a lot of official websites for games suck ass. The site's quality has no correlation with the game's quality.

Not that I'm expecting great things of Risen 3, but yeah.

Shields in G3 were sort of crap and shields in R1 were overpowered.
