Risen was simply a good game, Risen 2 was a step down, but still decent. I'm expecting Risen 3 to be somewhere in the middle between them, quality-wise.

Fuck you, PE will not disappoint.

Denial - the first stage :troll:
The first stage of what? The game is not released yet. We can talk about denial when the game ships and it sucks, but I try to not see that and enjoy it anyway. It happened exactly like this with Dragon Age: Origins.

Then there was anger: Bioware betrayed me! This was supposed to be Baldur's Gate's spiritiual successor!

Then there was bargaining: Maybe it picks up later? If I play more, I am sure to start to like it.

Then there was depression: We can't have nice things anymore.

And finally, acceptance: It is good for what it is.

Yup, so saying it won't disappoint is just as retarded as saying it will suck. You praised the guy from Scott Pilgrim vs The World that made the test for one of the characters.

More people should adhere to it's rules.

Stop ruining my arguments by being reasonable.

You are right of course. Everything we know about PE so far points towards it not sucking, but if it will, the BUTTHURT, aka disappointment, will be huge.

Piranha Bytes Show RPC 2014 Risen 3 Titan Lords

Some facts from the Risen video:
Piranhas:
Björn: Project Manager, Game & Story Designer
Harry, Jenni and Amadeus: Story Designer

  • last game of the Risen series
  • complete freedom: go where you want from the beginning
  • setting: the gods are gone, titans fight each other, the humans try to survive
  • new hero
  • 3 guilds: Mages, Watchers, ???
  • hero has lost his soul in a fight with a shadow lord and tries to get it back to avoid getting a henchman of the underworld
  • the hero seeks help from the mages
  • the mages try to fight the titans by building a reactor with crystals
  • the gnomes help mining the crystals
  • combat system: blocking, counter-attacks and evade moves are possible
  • blocking/dogging doesn't always work
  • you have to learn fighting strategies for different enemies, build up skills, equip yourself
  • Risen3 = best things from Risen & Gothic series
  • nonlinear story and exploring, much freedom -> seek your own adventure
  • more world interactivity than in earlier games
  • swimming and climbing is back
  • no monster scaling -> exploring is dangerous
  • different climate zones/landscapes
  • many interesting/hidden locations to find
  • many weapons, items to find
  • lure animals to enemies
  • adventure with companions
  • multiple pathes/solutions to solve quests
  • quests to reach locked/blocked areas
  • the hero can do some mining
  • release date: 15.08.2014
all in all: Gothic 1 reloaded -> I'm hyped :)

The last Risen game, eh?

I hope it's a goodbye to medieval fantasy as a setting too for them.

Open exploration, climbing, and swimming. Yes. Now, include my favorite part of all the gothic games -- walking around and picking flowers all fucking day.

I want this. I want this to be good. Do not make my butt hurt PB, do not do it.

I can't help but think an evil, extra-dimensional race of lizards have taken over the gaming industry just so they can feed.

And they feed on disappointment.

I guess I'm all spent then. Unless they can feed on that ambient nostalgic-y aura of disappointmment with the gaming industry in general.

It's not quite as nourishing as the sweet, sweet trears of honest disappointment, of course.

3rd game killed all the joy of explorotion with shitty rewards and random loot chest. Finding a laddle, a cigar and a carrot after killing 3 trolls in a distant cave was such a letdown...
Risen 1 brought it back up to a point but second game didn't do much.

Some of the stuff still worked; ironically it was things that were not in chests (Knight's Shield, for example) but yeah, I totally feel you. BUT, I've never had a feeling again like the first time I stumbled into Nordmar with the music building up, the wind picking up, and me going "fuck, this snow shit isn't a joke; my stamina is non existent" and being lost for such a while.

I can't defend the horribly stupid copy-pasta areas and terribad combat and loot, but it still had some things going for it and I think it would be wrong to overlook how great it was to just get lost in the wilderness. It was nothing compared to G2 as a game, but fuck me if it wasn't better than many other games.

I see G3 as a huge wasted potantial. They did a good job with the world itself but failed to fill it with interesting events, rewards, challanges.
