If I somehow manage to finish Risen 2 before August, this will be probably be a D1P for me. But that's unlikely.

Still, the feature list looks very promising.

PB games are like Windows - every second instance is bad and every second title is bad.

so they release the same game for fucking third time?
Did they released anything else? Nay. And good because there this genre have worse life than poin'n'click games.

Yup, if you spoke to a few guys out of turn in the monastery, a quest became undoable, and it was a main quest of some kind. I think it's the murder investigation, not too sure.

Does anyone know whether they'll go back to armor sets being related to factions and your rank in them?

I like how half the thread is about how this is going to be shit, and then after a single post of a few promised features everyone's faith is restored and its gonna be D1P.

There is/was a bug with the murder investigation if you solved it before fighting the dude in the arena. There is also the Pallas bug that has never been fixed even though it is a plot stopper and PB acknowledged it.

Anyone who judges it either way before it comes out is being Mr. Assumey Pants. No one knows, we shall see, etc. etc.

However those features and focuses sound good. Should I pretend they don't?

  • hero has lost his soul in a fight with a shadow lord and tries to get it back to avoid getting a henchman of the underworld
  • the hero seeks help from the mages
  • the mages try to fight the titans by building a reactor with crystals
  • the gnomes help mining the crystals
Sounds like a linear main questline.

This is only the starting situation of the new hero - not the whole questline. The Piranhas talked about/showed only the beginning of the story.

Piranha Bytes Show RPC 2014 Risen 3 Titan Lords

Some facts from the Risen video:
Piranhas:
Björn: Project Manager, Game & Story Designer
Harry, Jenni and Amadeus: Story Designer

  • complete freedom: go where you want from the beginning
  • setting: the gods are gone, titans fight each other, the humans try to survive
  • new hero
  • 3 guilds: Mages, Watchers, ???
  • hero has lost his soul in a fight with a shadow lord and tries to get it back to avoid getting a henchman of the underworld
  • the hero seeks help from the mages
  • the mages try to fight the titans by building a reactor with crystals
  • combat system: blocking, counter-attacks and evade moves are possible
  • blocking/dogging doesn't always work
  • you have to learn fighting strategies for different enemies, build up skills, equip yourself
  • Risen3 = best things from Risen & Gothic series
  • nonlinear story and exploring, much freedom -> seek your own adventure
  • more world interactivity than in earlier games
  • swimming and climbing is back
  • no monster scaling -> exploring is dangerous
  • different climate zones/landscapes
  • many interesting/hidden locations to find
  • many weapons, items to find
  • lure animals to enemies
  • adventure with companions
  • multiple pathes/solutions to solve quests
  • quests to reach locked/blocked areas
  • the hero can do some mining
  • release date: 15.08.2014
all in all: Gothic 1 reloaded -> I'm hyped :)
Risen 3 confirmed for GOTY if they deliver on even half of these things

The feature list from Gothic 3 was a good read prior release, too. It took some years and a big community effort after release to finalize Gothic 3...

  • swimming and climbing is back

Except that climbing is just as shitty as it is in Risen 2, because you can only climb at certain ledges. There will just be MORE of them, because PB is too stupid to realize that people want FREE climbing, because they like to explore freely, find shortcuts and go ways that weren't obviously intended by the developer and not, because people just love to see the climbing animation so damn much.

Another thing that bugs me is the proviant system. In Gothic 1 and 2 you had a lot of different types of food that you could eat and sometimes improve the quality of (fish soup, meat bug something, meat), some types of food gave you a permanent stat bonus if you ate a lot of them (dark mushrooms, apples) and it was used in some quests (Engrom wants cheese, Grim wants a lot of stuff, Erol being an asshole,...). Overall it made the world more believable if you can actually see someone eating cheese when he picked up cheese instead of magically consuming proviant during fights like in Risen 2. It would be much better if they just expanded on the cooking system and made it a form of low-level healing. This way it also improves loot, because there are more interesting things to find in the world and not just golld, alcohol, proviant like it was in 90% of the chests in Risen 2.

Again you can't kill your opponents, which sucks, because it takes away player freedom. For example in Gothic 2 if someone saw me stealing something I would go kill them, so that there are no witnesses left to rat me out to Lord Andre. But I guess it won't be necessary if they have the same stupid NPC amnesia system as in Risen 2 where NPCs would just forget that you beat them up after a couple of seconds...

quests to reach locked/blocked areas

Huh?

You can go wherever you want to go.

But sometimes, a locked door, a guard or a big monster will block your way and you have to do something about it:
  • bribe the guard
  • kill the guard/monster
  • lure a monster to the guard for distraction and sneak through
  • doing a quest for the guard to get entrance
  • find a key
  • lockpick the door
  • find a hidden route around the blocked path
-> intelligent CRPG map design.
