What exactly does the Codex think of UnderTale? I've been hnable to tell if it is just Youtuber indie bait or if it actually has merits.
I did not even know if I should classify it as a weaboo game.
(Hopefully there is not already a thread for this. )

I remember trying the demo and finding the athmosphere overwhelmingly sacharine. The mechanics weren't anything to write home about either. The reviews I've read since suggest there are some hidden depths but I don't know if checking them out is worth the risk of hyperglycemic coma.

I'm so burnt out by Earthbound namedropping that I can't get myself to care about this.

It's a game for story fags, 'nuff said.

Multiple endings based on non-lethal/genocide/neutral (kill some, spare some). Has SHMUP (sp) gameplay mixed with RPG bits.
A ton of degenerate cartoon porn from its fanbase already, be weary. You'll love it or hate it and be forever annoyed by it.

Apparently this is the first time where it's more than just namedropping. Maybe LISA too.

LISA was decent. Not much like Mother outside of a heavy dose of pixelated psychedelia, though. Games like that being described as "like Earthbound", full stop, is exactly why the term has kind of lost all meaning to me.

If people are still talking about this game positively in a few months I'll make time for it. I won't let my natural prejudice towards twee indie games get in the way of a good experience, in the end.

Sounds boorish. Even $10 is not worth a meme clickbait game with 15 hrs. of gameplay. Even my inner story fag is turned off.

Storyfag game indeed.

Don't get the "meme game" complaints. It certainly invented a bunch of them, but I don't think that was supposed to be intentional.

More of a bullet hell game than a RPG, anyway most of the entertainment comes from how the monsters react to your ACT and cell phone calls that work like that goomba in the paper mario games. Also how it does remembers what you did even after deleting your save is interesting as a novelty concept.

I'm not a fan of the game, but i think it's well developed and an improvement over even classic jRPGs, although it has really little to do with jRPGs themes at all.
The plot can be either Saccharine, or literally genocidal, so it's not as childish as it might appear at the start. It still mostly falls into black & white moral choices, however.

The one thing i actually really admired of it is how carefully developed it is. Dying to a boss allows to skip the dialog the next time you fight it and get to the fight immediately despite reloading, the random encounters are so well spaced i wasn't annoyed once by their occurrence, and each random encounter manages to feel fresh and to account for player skill at the same time. In that regard it deserves the fame it got.

Also, one thing no one ever mentions is that it contains at least two overt homosexual relationships, with one between plot-critical characters, and fundamentally cuckoldry too (the cuckold character literally has horns). The player is also forced to roleplay a relationship with no clear genders to progress (rather poorly) the plot. I don't understand why the developer wanted to glorify mental diseases in such a game, but it does perhaps explain some of the widespread obsession over it.

I know right. It's almost as bad as the transexual orgies in the original Final Fantasy. All those non-gendered characters climbing into the same bed to sleep every night, ugh, disgusting.

What are you on about? Some people just don't like politicized games that try to make plot-irrelevant statements, so i thought i'd warn them. There are literally females kissing each other in cutscenes and men lusting over naked muscles so much they shake. Much more than Gone Home can claim.

Some people can take jokes and don't project their own bullshit onto everything they see. The game is about as politicized as mario. You may as well be reading into the game's economics or the colour palette. Maybe the spider bakesale was a communist brainwashing message, about how capitalists are evil and spider like! You can seduce a god damned sentient passenger jet for fucks sake. Nobody sane is taking the combat events with random enemies (whom you could have just killed if you hate jokes that much) seriously.

I didn't say it was a negative for the game, i just mentioned it was there and that i didn't understand why. You're the one projecting bullshit, as usual.

My mistake then. Carry on being the moral guardian of the universe. I don't think anyone ever mentioned how wrong it is that you can do drugs in Fallout. Please warn everyone of this evil glorification of sinful ways. Also all those 4X games that glorify communism by letting you use it as a government without immediately ending the game. Oh and games with curse words too. How terrible. Think of the children.

Nobody mentions these things because nobody gives a fuck; personal morals have nothing to do with the quality of a game. You singled out the one thing in the game you have personal hangups about (sex) and start ranting about how the game is political and glorifying gays and cuckoldry. This isn't shit that warrants the majority of your commentary on the game unless you're some sort of obsessive bible thumper. You're talking about shit that makes up like 1% of the game and giving people the wrong impression about an excellent game. Shit like this is why half the codex faps to diablo 3 or dragon age- they read crappy shitposts about decent games that don't represent the game at all and then don't even give it a try.
