Somebody should probably double check if I missed to combine some of the lesser known titles (especially among those starting with "The").

Also, those who wanted to categorize the games according to genre can now do this as well.
HoMMo at #1 while MoM is at #15. The Codex truly is going down the toilet.

I can't believe I was the only one that voted for Outlaws.
And the original Master of Orion ranked as low as number 100 is an outrage.
Apart from that it looks like a good list.

Two walking simulators in the top 5 though as if having Morrowind and shit like that in the Top cRPG wasn't enough.

With your list (sorted one) i find 201 for UFO instead of 202, UFO: Extraterrestrial being a different game.

Not sure it's worth it to count again post by post like i did yesterday, it's easy to make mistakes and the alternative is worse, if i didn't, it'd mean there was an error while exporting data.
So, my mistake, your count is perfect.

:shredder:

Also, there is two people on my IL so there's that, not that their shit taste matters.

My results differ only slightly. It should be noted that I only tracked a few potential 'high-scorers', and then I lumped the score together for all the Civilization games, as mentioned previously.

(From memory)

HoMM3 was 1st with 265 points.
Thief 1 was 2nd place with ~215.
UFO: Enemy Unknown was third with just below 200 points.
The biggest change was with Starcraft and Thief 2, they were so close in points that I won't make the call which one came in 4th and 5th place.

Regardless of that, I'm very pleased with the Top 5.

I kept track of SMAC seperately and know that it scored high, but was pleasantly surprised to see that it comes in sixth.

Other games I kept track of were Doom, Half-Life and Thief 3. Doom and Half-Life were pretty much the same place in Lady Error's place, but in my books Thief 3 got 18 points, not 17.

Quake was the highest-scoring title I didn't keep track of, meaning that I got the Top 8 pretty much right.

As always Felipepepe has the final word, though the only judgement call to make is whether Starcraft or Thief 2 is at No. 4.

Pretty solid list overall, with the exception of the glorified physics demo Half-Life 2 ranking higher than the often copied, never reached all-time classic System Shock.

And Unreal so low.
I think it has aged better than games like Quake, Duke Nukem and Half-Life.

Dunno why everyone's Disagree-ing so hard with this post, I think you're right (except that I don't think it's necessarily aged better than those three games). It took me a few playthroughs to click with it but Unreal is great and deserves a spot in the top 100 for sure. At the very least I'd put it far above the likes of Crysis, Bioshock and Quake 2, all of which made the top 100.

Also surprised that Descent, Heretic and Far Cry didn't make it into the top 100.

 To clarify, what I meant was that while I don't think I'd personally say Unreal aged better than those three games, I wouldn't strongly disagree with the argument that it has. It plays just as smoothly as the rest, its visuals have aged just as well (or better than Duke 3D, which doesn't look great during most of Lunar Apocalypse), and there's not much that would alienate a modern audience. And like with Half-Life, the game being a series of connected maps rather than episodes makes it feel closer to post-2000 FPS games.

My 2018 assessment:

Played 11 levels of this before I decided I had had enough. Lousy weapons, lousy levels, spongy enemies. All it's good for is its pretty engine and that fine Alexander Brandon score. I'm glad I didn't pay money for it.

Also surprised that Descent, Heretic and Far Cry didn't make it into the top 100.

Just stating my opinion, but of these three only Descent deserves a shot at the Top 100. Heretic wasn't that good and Far Cry is a tech demo.

Far Cry definitely is a tech demo but it doubles as a pretty solid game. It derails a little when the mutants show up but I found the combat against human enemies to be a lot of fun.

It took me a few playthroughs before it suddenly seemed to work for me. The spongey enemies and weak-feeling weapons (especially compared to their UT99 equivalents) were what repelled me from it the first couple times too.

Now is probably a good time to mention Ash's Unreal Evolution mod, here, which eliminates some of Unreal's gameplay flaws.

Unreal does indeed have spongy enemies and this is also the reason why the weapons feel weak. They added fewer but tougher enemies for this game. Whether that was due to hardware limitations and wanting to keep a decent framerate seeing as how they were very good looking for their time, or just because they wanted something different from the hordes of Doom and Duke 3D it remains debatable.

Corrected the mistakes that were pointed out. Here is the updated list:

felipepepe should double-check anyway if he finds anything else.
That's amazing, thanks! I was doing it myself as well, but it's a very slow and boring process, as no doubt you know:

Finished checking the results, 99% matches with what Lady Error posted. But A LOT of people just wrote "Hitman", "xcom", "doom" or "Tomb Raider" and expect others to use precious psychic power to guess WTF they meant.

Problem is, Lady Error and I are clearly guessing differently, so our totals in some of these games don't match... I might have to ask people to clarify WTF they meant.
