Looking for an RPG with a robust char creation where you are able to make a character whose primary means of combat is using a one handed sabre, it should ideally have good combat(whether action or tactical I don't mind) and like at least OK story/atmosphere

RPGs out of consideration:

witcher 3 + expacs - I already play most of that game and don't feel like doing it, I would also like something with more self insert(fuck you video games arent art) possibilities

poe2 - cba to pirate 30gb and I dont think I would overall enjoy the d&d inspired dungeon crawling nature of it

also looking for recommendations for any good rpgs/games released in the last like 3-5 years that I have probably missed out on because of having a shitty laptop(I now have an ok laptop)

thank you for your help

Drakensang and Drakensang: River of Time.

when leveling up you can increase your skill in using different weapon types, Sabres for example. one of the classes even starts with a sabre but I can't remember which one.
story/atmosphere is fairytale-like in the high fantasy setting of Das Schwarze Auge.
combat is real-time with pause and as blobbery as a third person game can get (your party does act as one and should do so if you want a positive outcome. also no collision, they walk right through each other).

edit/shill: Drakensang is a nice change of pace and atmosphere. it has a wide variety of possible character builds & playstyles, beautiful open world sections and its combat can be challenging at times (that demon in River of Time in the ruins near the elven village drove me nuts, even with the help of the runes that weakened him). basically a third person Baldur's Gate with a less character centric story.

maybe
but idk if I'm really in a PB game mood

I need something with more char customization I think

played both already

Drakensang and Drakensang: River of Time.
I remember playing river of time for like 20 minutes and then turning it off somewhere in the first town, I forgot what irritated me about it

can you please try to shill me on the game or explain the reasons for suggesting this(other than being german)

Prince of Persia is all about sabres, even though it's not an RPG it's the most sabre action you'll get. I'm thinking of the originals in 2D, or even the Sands of time series.

Also why the fuck sabres? What ya wanna LARP?

Realms of Arkania, as well. The sabre falls under the Edged Weapons combat skill.

Hey, I got a tailor-made idea for you.

I'll show you my sabre, you can wield it and roleplay all night. How's that sound?

Mount and Blade. They actually have a point there since you're cavalry.

Are katana sabers? Lots of options if there are

You should give River of Time a shot it was a marked improvement in every way over Drakensang, it's a shame Radon Labs went under would have liked to have seen what they could have done in a third installment or another rpg.

I remember you can use sabres in x-com afterlight/aftermath (possibly others) if you consider them "RPG", there's some very efficient cc/sabers builds. (even overpowered)

There's a lot of sabers in the Might & Magic series, mostly pirate sabers, though, not oriental ones.

There's also a lot of oriental sabers in Wizardry 8 for the ninja/samouraï classes, possibly in wizards & warriors too (i'm not sure though)

You can use a saber in vigilantes (it hardly qualifies as a full RPG but it's a good tactical-"RPG")
