Huge chances this will be a cashgrab and trashy M&B\Deliverance clone.
But... I remember right after first teaser trailer and about 4 month after that people said Atomic Heart is never going to be released and will flop as a cashgrab for devs. And after Atomic Heart's success VK and other are eager to invest into new projects.

inject beautiful russian jank directly into my veins. 90% chance this game is shit but that's exactly what I love. Either way, Space Rangers & Vangers are better than 99% of the garbage loved on the codex, these moskals sure know how to make a great game

Developer interview, the game is very real and looks nice:

no English subtitles :(, is there a Russian or a russian speaker to explain what he just said?

The land of ice and snow.
Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I helped put crap in Monomyth
I noticed some reflections in some puddles were not fully rendered, but other than that, it's a perfectly standard stinger. Not much to discuss, really.

I wish them all the best, because there are a million ways you can mess up a game like this.

Russia is over. The end.

Not much of anything.

"The protag is a young guy. He's initially sided with the poles. Goes through the trials of the story, becoming a man and a Russian patriot." (rofl)
"No inventory green/purple trash with +1% to a stat"
"Realistic setting, no magic"
"Five historic consultants with PHD degrees and historical reenactors"

Stuff I didn't like I won't translate. He unfortunately doesn't strike me as particularly smart or understanding of history.
Smuta was a very rich period. Its events rival those of George Martin's fiction. There's certainly enough material to make a good game.

Also I don't think it's open world. He talks about major areas, which are connected by the main narrative thread, but have a bunch of their own content. The way he describes them makes it look like they're closed off areas.

Hazzah, another historical game. :obviously:

What interesting time period will this be set in? Let's see what the wiki has to say.

Time of Troubles

It was a time of lawlessness and anarchy following the death of Fyodor I. [...] Russia experienced the famine of 1601–03, which killed almost a third of the population, within three years of Fyodor's death. Russia was occupied by the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth during the Polish–Russian War (also known as the Dimitriads) until it was expelled in 1612. It was one of the most turbulent and violent periods in Russian history. In just 15 years, the crown changed hands six times. Estimates of total deaths caused by the conflict range from 1 to 1.2 million, while some areas of Russia experienced population declines of over 50 percent.

Fuck, that sounds really depressing.

there's very few games set during the early modern period, so i'll probably check it out for that reason alone

if it sucks then i guess i'll just play With Fire and Sword for the 20th time

It's weird seeing a developer make a supposedly text-heavy RPG in russian and only later translating it to english. Not sure it's a smart thing to do unless you have a big budget. You also limit your game's visibility by doing that.

:backawayslowly:
Bester didn't ommit anything important, the interview is full of empty marketing BS. The only important things are:

- It's not an open-world rpg like KCD, the world design will be hub-based - like in The Witcher 1-2 or in Bioware games. Each chapter of the game will be set in its own hub, and the devs plan to have eight hubs.

- The game's plot is based on a 19th century pulp adventure novel "Yuri Miloslavskiy, or the Russians of 1612". Even though the story is set during the war between Russian Tsardom and Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the main antagonist is not a Pole or a Hitman, but a traitorous Russian nobleman.

- dude talked a bit about combat/rpg system/c&c, but I did not really understand his point. He didn't even say whether it's a full-blown action combat or rtwp. Apparently, the game will have jrpg-like vocations? and weapons are vocation-specific? Weird.

Lol Russian KCD:

- Will need 7+ mods to use the Start Menu successfully
- When people buy it, that will be the first time the game gets tested or QA'ed.
- The game will have action combat, but in order to time your dodges or blocks, you will need to slow down game-time (obscure Akella reference)
- During cut-scenes, Putler will randomly appear, urging players to enlist after competing the game and go fight in Ukraine
- Game will feature new Wood Tracing™ technology, the latest in Russian GPUs.

Jokes aside, love historical games, but I don't see this doing well. Can't think of any Russian game that didn't make me want to throw computer out the window, due to bugs or shitty design. Even the ones we think of as Russian which weren't bad were actually made in Ukraine.
