I really like the start, but just why kiryu is in this random place doing taxi work? Haruka also doing porn? What about the others kids? Where is best boy lil nigga?
Is the chick real or some crazy kiryu delusion?
The story... makes sense, omi is turning hostile and tojo need new friends... nice.

Gameplay is way more fluid but sure kiryu got some daranged running animation lol

    But daigo...

Daigo is one of the worst characters in the series.

Y5 is the first game where Daigo is somewhat competent, if I recall correctly. He doesn't shit the bed as hard as he does in Y4, at least. Y1 Majima would've butchered Daigo after what he did in Y4's retarded plot.

You should receive an explanation fairly quickly about Kiryu going incognito in a new location, relating to Haruka now being in the idol industry. However, the explanation is quite unconvincing; little more than an excuse for the story-writers to relocate Kiryu to Fukuoka so that he can be tied into the developing story regarding the Tojo Clan's attempt to gain allies versus the Omi Clan.

The other children in the orphanage are all younger than Haruka, who herself is still in secondary education; i.e. they're all still in the orphanage, and Kiryu is sending them money.

Yakuza 5 was the first game in the series I ever played. Also, I do not recommend playing Yakuza 5 first.

Just finished Like A Dragon and enjoyed it quite a bit. Having the lead be a 40 year old gaming-obsessed manchild shows they really know their audience. The story hooked me right away, overall it feels like Kiryu was the biggest thing holding the series back. Note that the point where
    Show Spoiler
    he comes back
is also the point where the story almost runs off the rails.

The job system was fun enough but the combat was pretty basic. I'm shocked they pretty much threw away the Heat system; spending MP to spam special moves just doesn't have the same appeal as the combo-combo-heat rhythm of the prior games. It seems you could have worked this into the TB system pretty easily but what do I know. The classes themselves also felt pretty half baked--it seemed almost every character's best job was their default, so the other classes were mainly gimmicks to buff stats and give you a few special moves. Way too little transfers between classes, mostly stats, which is lame. The musician being the only class with unique mechanics that are almost totally pointless tells me they intended more systems like that but ran out of time. So maybe the next game will have more developed jobs.

It felt pretty weird to have english VO, I switched back and forth and decided I mostly like the english voices. Ichiban was good, so was the rest of the team. Note the hilarity of english localization going to the trouble of finding an actual korean guy to voice the korean character. The returning voices were more mixed:

Masaru was kind of dumb, Daigo was fine, Saejima was pretty good, Majima was eh. Kiryu, holy shit, he was terribad.

I still don't get why they haven't made a spinoff fighting game out of this IP.

Because fighting game fans expect chicks with jiggly tits to fill half the roster and Kiryu isn't allowed to punch women.

    In what ways?
I don't entirely disagree, as I think Majima would have made a far better protagonist throughout the series.

    Someone explain me y4 daigo.

So he was... legit on board with the corrupt police/prison thing? This is 100% haram.
Or he was... under some threat to toss all tojo in prison? He became police bitch just like that? Kiryu then had sto kick some sense back into him?

Just the general need to roll back progress in order to give Kiryu more obstacles to overcome, leaving his development in each game thinner and thinner while continually robbing him of any meaningful resolutions. By Yakuza 3 his story is pretty much done and Yakuza 4 and 5 start focusing on other characters and leaving Kiryu sidelined (Shinada had the best story in Yakuza 5). I enjoyed Yakuza 6 but the story was more about Haruka than Kiryu, and the ending was pointless melodrama that contradicted the main theme of the story. Kiryu goes on and on about how you never give up on people and stay together no matter what,
    Show Spoiler
then gives up and abandons everyone because reasons.

Using new characters to explore the world they've created and letting Kiryu's time be over was a good idea. Worked well for the Grand Theft Auto games, for example. One of the reasons why I dislike serialized characters in general.

Think the dude is basically of the opinion that Tojo is finished because all the heavyweights are gone, so whatever it takes to survive.
I suppose there would be more tough dudes in the clan if a certain gray suit didn't keep beating the shit out of them.

Also beat 4. This time I think I got all them substories too but two.
Never mind how retarded the plot can get at times, the finale was a decent way to close out the action.
I'm more worried with how I only lost twice in the entire game and both of those vs DoD.

It's not fun if I don't get frustrated at some point.

Holy damn, 10h and i'm still on kiryu, liking the story so far, nothing very stupid about it... yet.
Daigo sure can't control the tojo for shit, as usual.

Did taxi stuff, i liked normal taxi more than the races, pointless rubber band.

    But

Legit EVERY FUCKING ONE is here lol

Y5 was amazing, I binged the shit out of it. I really appreciated the obvious effort they put into experimenting with tying gameplay to story elements (you'll see more of that in the next chapter).

Replaying 0 after beating it once shortly after it came out on PS4, and having played all the games in the main series I think the combat is most fun in 0. On my first playthrough I finished the cabaret club storyline but I don’t think I ever bothered to use the Mad Dog of Shimano fighting style with Majima. It’s overpowered but getting triple takedowns with the heat actions never gets old.

    ok, yakuza 5, kiyu done.
Very nice, loved the big brawl, the story is still... not moronic, even with the usual asspull surprise backstab.

The rooftop brawl in Yakuza 5's final chapter is the dumbest shit in the series.
    Show Spoiler
"Hey, I know I've been the villain up to this point, but I'm actually a good guy. I don't know who the REAL villain is, but he's around somewhere! I know what we should do! We should beat each other up!"
Like Kurosawa is a fucking leprechaun but instead of rainbows he appears near fistfights.

A big problem in Yakuza 5 is that they want to have these cool climatic fights but the justification is always retarded. Woaaaah, cool Saejima v Majima fight! The music is so dope and Majima is cloning himself and shit, cooool! Why are they fighting?
    Show Spoiler
Because bad man wants them to and if Majima wins, Haruka will die? If Majima wants Haruka to live then why is he even putting up a fight? Why the fuck is he doing his crazy laugh and comedy "ORE" noise?
It's like they designed all the gameplay then wrote a half hearted story around it.

Yakuza 6's story is pretty eh on retrospect, but they get this aspect right. Kiryu vs Akiyama is perfect because they both have justifiable reasons to fight. Plus (this is a pretty crucial element for making it satisfying) they're actually trying to stop one another. They are fighting because of a genuine conflict between the two rather than some bullshit sparring match like Saejima vs Majima in Y4 and 5. I can't believe they only got this right in the game without multiple playable characters (besides Kiryu vs Saejima in Y4, which was okay, but Kiryu is such a non character in that game that it doesn't have the impact the Y6 Akiyama fight does.) You have an outlaw and a cop as playable characters and they don't fucking fight? No, instead Tanimura gets all the fucking exposition and Saejima spends half the game's story tied up in a broom closet. In a game that's all about fighting, the story should be setting up satisfying fights instead of jerking off with all this lackluster conspiracy shit.
