I at least thought Saints Row 2 was charming in just how over-the-top it was (and a rather good breath of fresh air after the grey-drudgery that was GTA IV), but now all they seem to care about is one-upping the prior game in LOLSORANDUMBness, with the actual game just looking fucking clownish, like a cake made entirely of icing or a teenager with too much makeup on. While GTA V seems to be re-adjusting itself to be the same fairly-serious-but-still-taking-the-piss tone that San Andreas and Vice City had.

Codex 2012 Serpent in the Staglands Dead State Divinity: Original Sin Project: Eternity Torment: Tides of Numenera Wasteland 2 A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
At least Rockstar always tries to make satire, whereas SR is just outright stupid.
The story and gameplay dissonance in GTAIV killed it for me. Trying to be serious in a GTA game is stupid. SR3 was just cheerfully mental and that's what I want from these games.

I find the assumption that devs are poor little flowers who don't want to grab more money by dumbing down or exploiting (like in this case) their game funny as well.
They wanted this to be an expansion. THQ decided to make it a sequel. Volition got DA2'd. I doubt most developers like having to rush out sequels since it's hard on their lives (no, they're not making it at a leisurely pace and lazing around half the day, laughing at all the suckers who are going to buy it at release) and compromises quality.

They get paid salaries either way. They're less likely to receive any kind of bonuses or royalties from cash-in-sequel reviews/sales.

Yup, in that case they should flat out refuse to work instead.

Holy shit, flying, super jumping, slamming in the ground like meteor and even some of the super unarmed attacks are taken straight from Prototype games. Beside all those fancy light effects, animations are identical

Also, the old car at 0:45 is really bad quality.

But hey, no giant dildos in the trailer, maybe they fired all the people who though that was funny. Default male protagonist looks much better than the freak from SRTT so another potential improvement.

Saint Row was full of stupid shit from day one, this superhero bullshit don't surprise me. Saint Row 3 was very fun, stupid as hell and sometimes facepalming inducing, but you develop a morbid curiosity about the stupid bullshit they invented, you are always guessing: "No, nothing can be more stupid than this." and all the times you are wrong . The only thing that pissed me off is that they decided to make all the main missions piss easy and you can only find challenge on some side activities. What I want from a GTA clone is to shoot something, explode something and destroy everything and myself in hilarious ways, the emotional engaging story from GTA IV wasn't all that interesting and Nico had the charisma of a potato, Saint Row 3 offered way better gameplay. I would buy this thing if it didn't smelled so much as a cash grab, Saint Row 2 was way bigger and with more content than Saint Row 3. I have the feeling that they divided Saint Row 3 and are selling the second half now, paying $60,00 for this thing is just stupid, maybe when it is below $20,00 and if they added more difficulty modes I could be interested.

That's not a refutation. How are the developers getting extra money from SR4?
By not slaving in retail and signing good contracts instead?
You're not even making any sense. What makes you think Volition has a good contract with Deep Silver? They didn't even have any say about who could buy them.

They could still turn down the contract but since it was mostly done anyway I'm sure it was a SLAM DUNK for both parties.
