Wish they'd put some of their older titles on Steam. Other than SPWAW (a fine classic), some of my favorite games are the games from the Decisive Battles of World War II series Matrix Games had between about 2002 and 2012.

The first game in the series was Korsun Pocket. It had two campaigns - the Korsun campaign, which was decent, and the Battle of the Bulge campaign, which IMO was fantastic.

Then they did Battles in Normandy. That's my favorite game in the series. You do D-Day as the Allies; or you play Rommel and halt the invasion.

Then after that they did Battles in Italy. Let me put it this way - you get to find out why the Italian front was a stalemate. The campaigns are dull and only the invasion of Sicily is any fun.

Then after that the series entered major decline. They changed the system a bit and released a game with a bunch of unsatisfying campaigns.

Never played the last game of the series. I vaguely remember downloading and trying it out once, but I think I got bored after a few turns. The magic was gone. Or I was impatient.

Can anyone make any other recommendations? Matrix Games have hundreds of games in their catalog... Which are the good ones?

Edit: Lol now I find out they also had a Kharkhov game that looks decent.

excellent choice

However, I refuse to give Matrix any of my shekels anymore due to their synagogue tactics of marketing shovelware as uncut diamonds with a price tag to match,

What about developers of good games, though?

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I am hesitant to buy
Command: Modern Air / Naval Operations WOTY,
Has anyone given it a try? How long does it take to become remotely competent? How replayable is it?
Is it really better than Harpoon?

Yes

How long does it take to become remotely competent?
2-4h for basic tutorials on how to work with the UI, you will need to search for some things later when you encounter specific situations. There only so many things you can't do, but if you get to them, they can be frustrating.
If you have basic grasp of naval and air tactics (and I assume that you have) you can jump straight to every scenario.

How replayable is it?
Immensely. Especially that there is an editor and user made scenarios.

Is it really better than Harpoon?
Some say no, but I'm not so sure.
