This game is from the guys behind The Messenger AND it looks this good? How did I not learn about it sooner? Thac0 why didn't you tell me about this? It's your only job.

But seriously, a very pleasant surprise.

For some reason these pretty pixelart JRPG homages have an extremely high likelyhood of ending up as vaporware, higher than even obscure crpg retrobait like that Realms Beyond thing.
Look at Project Phoenix turning tail with a staggering 1000000 $ going down the drain.
Yeah it looks pretty, but I don't trust kickstarter jrpgs.

The more i see some gameplay, the more i think its maybe WAY too much inspiration taken from chrono trigger. Not saying i dont love it tho.

A few months back I made a comment about the music being lacking; I still think that, however I believe I feel that way due to how it differs from Chrono Trigger. As many others have mentioned it is patently obvious that this game wants to be Chrono Trigger - in many aspects it looks like they're on the right track too, which is quite impressive. That being said, Chrono Trigger's music had this pervasive melancholy. Even the more upbeat tracks tended to have this foreboding heaviness in the background. I don't know, it's probably not fair to hold that negatively against the game, but it's just something I've noticed.

It is... beautiful. Sabotage studios have some serious graphic skills. I'm not a fan of the genre, but I'll definetly check it out simply because I liked "The Messenger" so much.

There aren't many Chrono Trigger clones out there (if there are, I don't know them), so I don't see the problem with it being a CT rip-off.

I see the aesthetic similarity, the three person party and combos, but I’m not really getting Chrono Trigger clone from it.

I'm not sure how I feel about timed blocks. Seems like a pretty cumbersome and repetitive mechanic in a turn based game where the challenge of split second reaction time isn't present like in an action game. I'd much rather see it replaced by a timed attack system of some sort.

I feel like its more like an "add on" to the combat system, than some fundamental part of it. Meaning you could probably never block and just be allright, maybe with some exceptions.

What's more, when these games release they often are very barebones or have mechanical problems. Usually it's the super artistically talented types that are otherwise not really technically inclined making these. Not just JRPGs either, this happens with stuff like Owlboy, Souldiers, Kingdom Gun, Mists of Noyah, Chasm, etc.. It's almost like getting so much in one thing takes away from another, like a character sheet.

Not saying they're bad btw, but you just gotta be careful and inspect them when they're a very small team or an individual committing to a high level of pixel art.
