Evil stirs. Not only does a deadly plague ravage the land, consuming entire villages, but rumours abound that the long-forgotten old gods including Despater, the God of Death, have awakened from slumber. Join Betha, a mysterious girl with a powerful secret, and the survivors of Tadec on a desperate quest to uncover the truth and destroy the source of the blight.

Traverse a rich medieval fantasy world across 32 branching scenarios and confront the evil that schemes in the shadows. The choices you make – who you choose to ally with, who you leave behind, and what you’re willing to sacrifice – will shape the fate of the world.

Tactical turn-based combat
Maneuver your team, choose your actions wisely, and outwit your enemies using terrain, timing, and tactical insight. Classic party-based strategy: Form your party from a diverse array of warriors, each with their unique skills, strengths, and stories.

Difficult Decisions
Every encounter presents the risk of character perma-death. When a party member dies, will you forge ahead with a replacement, or reload and try again? Who will you recruit and who will you leave behind?

A rich, driving story
An epic narrative inspired by Celtic mythology and medieval folklore. Rich world-building, character-driven storytelling, and branching paths that reflect your decisions ensure each playthrough feels fresh.

Dynamic character progression
Customise your party with new skills and equipment earned through battle. Develop your heroes into hardened veterans.

Tactical multiplayer battles
Design your own party, test your skills, and go join your friends in intense skirmishes.

An immersive, replayable campaign
With branching choices, region-specific recruits, and difficult decisions ahead, no two journeys are ever the same.

Appreciate the TB combat and hexes but when your game looks that cheap and generic I have zero desire to play

Crazy that decades later games are looking worse and worse

KotCII looks worse than the first and on par with this game if not worse as well, and is one of the greatest cRPGs ever made. If the game is good I'll play it.

It would need ridiculous combat depth. But they seem more focused on mediocre CnC and a boring story (plague... Yay)

Eh I've played and enjoyed games that looked way worse. I'm at least gonna follow this.

What are you expecting, BG3-level production? I know it's highly praised here, but not everyone has that kind of budget. This doesn't look any worse than Jeff Vogel's games , in fact, it clearly looks better. If you check Gilligames’ page, there's only one name listed: Todd M. Gillissie. So it's very likely an extremely small team, maybe just one person.
But visuals are the least of the problems for these kinds of games. Sure, it looks generic and uninspired, like most indie games nowadays. Some manage to look a bit less generic, but they're still heavily neutered, like Age of Decadence or Colony Ship. Still, 99.99 percent of them end up like this. That’s certainly a feat for a small team, but it doesn’t excite me much either.

Looks like it has potential to be fun, but with current abundance of low-fi RPGs it will likely get lost in the crowd, especially with an impossible to remember title like that.

Lack of budget doesn't necessarily mean it has to look like this. I don't know what's the fuck up with those playmobil, low poly models in every single indie game nowadays, but they could at least insert some ai generated portraits for the party. I will have hard time distinguishing this one from 999 other niche rpgs to be released, so I guess it is in fact a real problem to be concerned about. Also, AoD being slightly generic has some actual art direction applied, looks more or less coherent and has a consistent mood. Also, those Septerra Core-like characters with colourful, gen z haircuts, very fuckin Celtic, indeed.

Not praised enough to win Codex GOTY apparently, since it was beaten by Jagged Alliance :smug:

Codextards like to complain about the rudimentary indie pixel art styles, but I would take Death Trash (or Caves of Lore if you prefer something closer to community's sensibilities) any day over this bland turd.

I don't really see how this game is supposed to be Celtic.

Sometimes they show keltic stuff, but than suddenly a generic medi evil castle or mill. Kinda sad. A distinct style would have helped a lot in this low detailed mess

Right now it just looks like randomly put together assets on a bland background

Wasn't that sarcasm? This game is so "highly praised" that it has its own thread dedicated to shitting on it.
