Slormite Studios has Early Accessed their game Slormancer on GOG and Steam. Look like another one of those pixel gems with a little bullet hell thrown in for good measure. Looks like it has a rather crazy character system as well along with a fairly scaled back UI. Here's some of what's up:

    • An irrational story!
You were born with absolutely no skill whatsoever, and yet you find a way to be the last hope of the realm as the enigmatic Slormancer and his incompetent underling try to conquer the world once again. How great. But like your grandfather once told you: "You might not have the talent but you have the will."
    • Three unique Classes
Unlock and master more than 200 unique Abilities, Upgrades and Passives for every class. Each active Ability has its own skill tree, allowing you to create unique combinations.
    • Harness the power of your Ancestral Legacy
Choose your Legacy and inherit ancient powers among more than 150 Element-related Skills and Passives in the Ancestral Skill Tree.
Master Fire and summon powerful elementals, use Ice to freeze your foes, convoke Thunder and create massive storms, embrace the power of Light or make one with Shadow, it's up to you!
    • Unique Weapons
120 unique and game-changing weapons available for every class. Each Slorm Reaper is a unique and priceless weapon that you can loot during your adventure. Once found, wield it to benefit from its powerful effect, level it up, and eventually evolve it to a greater form.

Wow, there's enough stuff moving around on the screen in that trailer to give a cat seizures.

"Fight hordes of enemies led by The Slormancer, an evil warlock from the past, in an absurd yet epic Action RPG!"

In Current Year, the Codex considers anything an RPG if it identifies as one. :happytrollboy:

Yeah Saint_Proverbius is trying so hard to compete with GOG's front page but we're not in the bottom yet. Give him more time, he can do it.

Looks fun. I really enjoyed Enter the Gungeon (and bullet hell-esque games in general) and this is looking a lot like that. Not what I'd consider an RPG though.

It's basically a baby version of PoE, juvenile graphics and humor, a bit slow and simplified. Not bad for what it is.

It’s not soo simple: torchlight and diablo 3 are simpler.
Lok like even more complex than grimdawn.
Of course can’t reach poe level.

Having played a little more, there's very little of the game implemented at this point: only the first "area" is available, plus some endless "expeditions". Not sure if it's more complex than GD, the itemization thus far is extremely basic +5% damage stuff, no build-defining items of any kind. OTOH skill-wise there do seem to be some interesting combos and the trees are fairly large, and you've got a PoE style giant board with actives/aures/passives/etc that you can unlock.

I first thought you were talking about Pillars of Eternity, and not Path of Exile...

There have been a few innovations since Diablo 2. Fate comes to mind with it's pet system which Torchlight 1 and 2 expanded on. The ability for a follower to haul loot back to town for you and sell it so you can stick to the dungeon is pretty nice. Add on the fact that you can fish for things that you can use to change your pet in to some other creature with different stats was neat as well. Fate, and later Torchlight, added random side quests which were also nice as opposed to Diablo and Diablo 2's static boss encounters. Also, the Renown system from Fate and Torchlight as well were nice things those games added.

Depends on what you're looking for. If you want coop with friends, the only one that has that is Torchlight 2. If you want a single player experience with no classes that's all skill based, Fate. Torchlight is probably the most fun of them all, though. Torchlight 2 is good, but there's almost too much. The areas are really big, which means it can take forever if you just want to clear everything but there is a lot to do.
