Mathieu Girard, the co-founder of Amplitude Studios, has created a new studio called Tactical Adventures. They're currently working on a CRPG that combines Baldurs Gate and XCOM using the 5th edition DnD open game license.

Our first game is a Tactical RPG, inspired by some of our favorite aspects of games such as Baldur’s Gate and XCom, using the 5th edition ruleset of the world’s greatest tabletop RPG. Our design offers technical and gameplay innovations in all three main aspects of this type of game: combat, exploration, and narration.

The game will be developed in partnership with the community, especially with RPG enthusiasts. In order to create the best possible experience with our first release, we believe that this kind ofpartnership is crucial.

You may find a link to their website over here ------------------------------------------> https://www.tactical-adventures.com/

Codex Year of the Donut
the website is web 2.0 garbage
"should we have a simple website that tells you what this is about? nah, lets just have an entire page with just our company's name and force them to scroll all the way to the bottom for actual information"

Possible red flag, regarding his comment about computer role-playing games:

you have to read a lot of text. It can be a bit tedious, I think. It’s not very modern. Even though lots of people love this, including myself, I think we can bring something more modern to exploration, combat, and narrative.
Modernity is stupid. News at 11. :negative:

Codex Year of the Donut Serpent in the Staglands Dead State Divinity: Original Sin Project: Eternity Torment: Tides of Numenera Wasteland 2 Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Kingmaker Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
This quote from the interview is suggestive:

Girard: I guess — I don’t want to reveal all my secrets so soon. For now, we just have a prototype, which is very exciting. It shows a lot of cool stuff. The foundation for us is that computer RPGs have been making — well, they’re great games, but they’ve been doing more of the same thing for the past 20 years since Baldur’s Gate. These are great games. I love them. I play them. But it’s the same way of doing exploration and combat. Some of them have had turn-based combat but not all the way, not with a very accurate grid system.

He criticizes turn-based RPGs for not being turn-based "all the way", which suggests that he wants to go all the way.

(the fixation on a "grid system" is rather peculiar, I must say)

No one likes "a lot of text" on the Codex anymore.

I'm more skeptical about his seeming obsession with taking a modern approach. Although the bit about tedious text could suggest a more cinematic presentation, reliance on voice acting, which is concerning as well. But truthfully, it is premature to make any prognostications about this project. I am willing to withhold further judgement.

Games are a visual, audio, and interactive medium. They don't need to be presented as books with walls of text.

One of the reason I love Deadfire over traditional CRPGs is its use of cinematics, ambient sound, and environmental storytelling. Beast of Winter is a great example.
