Albion RPG 1996 - Such a wonderfu. colorful, adventurefull treat. I actually heard about a sequel being made by someone else then BB looong time ago. There were actually pictures already taken in-game. It looked pretty good for its time. Now the internet is silent about this.

And Arx Fatalis. Arcane Studios are still alive doing pretty ok, but they've pretty much moved away from the idea ages ago. Sad panda is sad.

Are you aware of the static recompilation port for modern OSes?

There's a static recompilation version of Albion to play it natively, including rendering the 3D scenes at native resolution rather than at a lower resolution and upscaling it

Same-ish place at native resolution in dosbox:

Scaled, no filtering:

compare how crisp the far away areas are

dosbox version makes me feel sick in the 3D scenes, the recompilation isn't as bad because it runs at higher FPS

Thief: Deadly Shadows. Get rid of the clunky movement by making it true first person, improve the detection model to better handle moving shadows, and bring back the rope arrow.

Ultima Underworld.
What's wrong with Ultima Underworld 2?
Ultima. :M The original Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss was shoehorned into the Ultima setting at a relatively late stage, and it had a fairly small impact on the game. The sequel, on the other hand, begins in Lord British's castle populated by various NPCs from the Ultima series, and the plot is integrated into the ongoing Ultima storyline.

The game is peak Eurojank with poor combat, often very ugly and too many copy-paste quest. But the Venice setting and the focus on necromancy with cool non-combat spells made it a pretty unique experience.
