Already in EA since one and a half month ago, but nobody noticed.

Ancient Slavic knights fight against evil in turn-based tactical combat!

Spear Song is inspired by Slavic folklore and fairytales. Colorful graphics will allow you to dive into this fantasy kingdom with knights fighting against authentic Slavic villains. Lead a squad of various characters and combine their skills to defeat the enemies!

Evil spirits have invaded the kingdom, ghouls roam the fields, and a giant three-headed dragon terrorizes the countryside. Knights are continuously going on crusades from the capital to clear the land from evil creatures. All previous attempts have failed, but now the fate of the kingdom is in your hands. Will you be able to defeat the enemies of your land and crush the hordes of monsters?

Key features:

  • Dive into the fairytale! Bright stylized graphics inspired by Slavic folk art.
  • Lead the squad! Tactical gameplay is based on combining the skills of units and manipulating the enemy’s position on the battlefield.
  • Write your legend! Each attempt to save the kingdom presents a new, randomly generated journey.
  • Upgrade your knights! Different characters have unique skills and great opportunities for combinations.
  • Take care of your warriors! The dead cannot be returned. If you lose, you’ll need to start all over again with a new squad.

Women warriors - woke game
This is one thing that really bothers me about current year. In Mount & Blade Warband you could play as the Shield Maiden, the Jeanne of Arc. In current year slop 61% of warriors and 75% of military brass are strong independent wahmans so the archetype isn't really satisfying anymore.

Slavic spirit is weak in this one. Slavs time hasn’t arrived with this one.

Eh, looks more Slavic than most. Or to be precise more Russian and based on Russian fairly tales.

Got the three-headed dragon and vodyanoi. Got some Orthodox churches. Got bogatyrs with tear shields, conical helmets, and Soviet cartoon style colour scheme. Basically looks like those 2000s cartoons which in turn are derived from a mix of style for adventure games, Soviet cartoons, and perhaps some Disney.

It's basically 19th century and Soviet fairly tales, which is a reasonable enough setting but I wouldn't call it super Slavic. I'm hoping for something more along the lines of Knyaz. Or Mount and Blade had pretty neat Slavic vibes in mods.

It's a little odd that this is not exploited more as it's big in metal, and games tend to follow it aesthetically.

Eh, it has its own niche, but it's nowhere near as big as the Norse one in terms of bleeding into mainstream pop culture. And unlike the Norse case, Slavic stuff doesn't have the advantage of reinforcing something that's already present there in a significant way.

I mean relative to the cartoon fairy tale Russian stuff. Maybe it's due to Masha and the Bear.

That said, the Slavic stuff is poorly distinguishable from the Norse and is really contiguous with it (similar to Celtic), so it's already somewhat present. In fact, games tend to exoticise it by adding much later and more nationally distinct elements (e.g., 17th century streltsy costumes which have nothing to do with "Slavs").

Female euqivalent of bogatyr was called polyanitsa.

Translation:

Dobrynya chased after polanitsa, sporty she-champion
And hit polanitsa with damask cudgel
Hit her on her rowdy head
Here polanitsa looks back
And says such words:
— Thought some mosquitoes were prickling me,
Turns out it is russian bogatyr slapping me!
