I would say to finish this one and try the rest later. Even if you don't finish them, they are memorable game experiences.

Alright. Alright. I shall begrudgingly attempt them, hopefully they suck me in. Unique experiences are rare after-all. And RTS games with decent narratives rarer still.

The base building is simple and requires almost no micromanagement. Its a bit like Stronghold where you place a woodcutter hut near a forest and
the game does the rest itself. The only difference is that you can assign the number of workers for a building.
The major part of the game is focused on controlling your heroes and army and many missions have a large part
where you are only using your heroes. The Character development mechanics are rather simple but the story/setting/writing are pretty good.
The controls and the path-finding are also pretty good. Even with large armies its easy to use your heroes abilities and to keep marching.

Speaking of the old ones, has anyone played Demons of the Past and Faith in Destiny? Are they really that terrible like I've been reading?

If you talk about expansions, well i have played most of them and are not good. The base games are better.

I would be very interested to read such a thing.

It's funny that it seems for all of the games in the series, the part that is supposed to make them unique - IE the inclusion of RTS mechanics paired with RPG gameplay - is actually not only completely unnecessary, but actually weakens the experience if you choose to utilize it. Interestingly enough, it makes all these games even more appealing to me than they have been before. Stomping entire "RTS" armies and settlements with a dedicated group of adventurers sounds like a lot of fun.

Fulfills the same power fantasy as using Sauron in that old LotR RTS.

Anyhow, quite enjoy Spellforce, though I'd wish they'd expand some more on the lore and add more branching choices in the quest. In that regard, Spellforce 3 has been an improvement over its predecessors and I hope that it'd have another expansion (at the very least).

You wish has been granted. It took so long because Infinitron was deliberating whether to post in on the front page due to its weirdness.

Well, since they aim to release further patches, I can only hope that a second expansion is in the works.

I honestly thought the series died with the expansion release. I liked it, but it didn't sell too well I think.

I think that the expansion was even better than the original, so that's a shame. But then again, it's mixed genre makes it more of a niche product rather than something with mass appeal to both RPG and strategy fans.

Yeah, I'm hoping for one too since Soul Harvest was awesome (might even replay it), however I read somewhere on steam discussions that they are planning to focus more on multiplayer down the road. Tbh I think that's a terrible move, being that these games aren't exactly very popular.

Did the bugs in Soul Harvest get fixed?

Both games are great, surprised they aren't more popular.

I don't remember finding any bugs, and I finished the game 2 days ago. I'm sure there are some, but the game is stable if that was a problem for you before.

I had a few unfinishable side quests so I shelved the playthrough, looks like it's time to take a look at it.

Spellforce has always had its (German) fans. It has like a bajillion entries, some of them worse than others. I'm not surprised it keeps going. I even wrote a retrospective, so that should be evidence enough that there is interest in this franchise. I'm happy they are still supporting 3.

Wonder if they still plan to port over Spellforce 3 campaign into the new... launcher thingy?

Did this game run like crap for anyone else, has it been improved since launch? I couldn't care less about fps in most RTS games as long as its constant, but this game jumped from 100 fps to 30 fps and back on some maps. Not fun when micromanaging units and scrolling around. Shame cause i got about halfway through the campaign having a decent amount of fun.

Not about the hardware either, i'm one of those retards that can afford a PC that's worth a small car.

Why get a PC that costs as much as a small car when the games worth playing don't require that kind of hardware.

I feel like the game needs a pause function, or maybe I'm just too old to play RTS now.

While i agree for the most part, i spend a lot of my gaming time playing (flight) simulators. Especially combat flight simulators like DCS need beefy CPU/GPUs or shit turns into an uncontrollable slideshow.

I do have use professionally for FP32 compute on this overpriced Nvidia turd, so close enough i guess.
