Though the franchise is alive, Fallout 1 & 2 have not had a game resembling them as a kickstarter, except maybe Age of Decadence? Depending on how techincal we get with the term kickstarter revival.

Nor do the classical Ultima games have an equivalent, though I do not know how much interest they would get now with how much the series have been raped since Ultima IX and the upcoming "social mmo".

For Fallout 1\2, Underrail is very similar.
And for classic Ultima, the upcoming Antharion is kinda like that, it seems. And DivOS tried to pick the mantel of "simulationist approach" to RPGs.

Another that comes to mind is System Shock that always seems to live in legal hell. Maybe some "type" of SS Kickstarter game but I don't see it being successful without SHODAN attached.

Seeing the scope of what is possible with Kickstarter budgets I'm pretty reluctant to see somebody fail at such an attempt. It's the same reason, why I didn't trust the Underworld Ascendant Kickstarter but every now and then I'm checking up on Infinitron's post and try to control every little glimmer of hope that is building up. It wouldn't be the first time for Paul Neurath struggling with budgets I keep telling myself..

All in all I wouldn't be happy with some half-assed revival of any game I used to cherish. I remember as a kid thinking how awesome Bio Menace would be brought into 3D. Now nostalgia would leave me satisfied with more levels as good as the first ones and the shareware. It's all about seeing the Apogee title coming through the meteors.

Otherwise a good sequel to Incubation wouldn't be too hard to achieve. Just don't fuck the player with weapon jams like the original mission pack does and everything will be fine.
The only other IP issue that springs to my mind is Rebellion owning 2000 AD and doing fuck all with it. I'll never understand how console players weren't all over Rogue Trooper. It's the perfect popamole (at least on PC) and they didn't fucking care for it. But then again they didn't care for the Judge Dredd movie from 2012 either. It's like they want to be sold the same shit over and over again. :argh:

mindx2 did MMX go directly to early access? Can't remember. If it wasn't KS, it was surely riding the crowd sourced wave at least.

Wizardry would be an insta-back for me, as would something with juicy TB combat in the style of ToEE or KoTC2. I am anxiously awaiting KoTC2, and I also think D:OS Enhanced Edition and new IP using a refined D:OS combat engine will be delicious as well.

Betrayal at Krondor comes to mind as does whatever SSI can reset and bring.

Fallout: Build My Vault City

Turnbased, Squadbased, Troop Management, Loot management, Base building, RPG.

Think the keep-building section of NWN2, but scifi Post Apocalypse instead of fantasy. Period/Chapter attacks of varied strength.

If you like, build the defense as facility (bunkers, etc). Or build the defense by manage a series of characters. Like you got an minigun-wielder NPC who got picked up in a quest, you put him by the vault door. The two raiders good with scoped rifles, you put them in hidden nests for sniping. Etc... You got the idea~

Vault City got its own set of quest, obviously, but you occasionally explore other towns to get quest, open trade routes, escort caravans, and hire more/better NPCs.

I mean, the setting is begging for it.

A first person (a)RPG/sneaksy game ala Bloodlines, SS2 or Thief 1/2 is essentially untapped. You've got modern, futuristic and medieval right in those three.

Personally, I'd be interested in a modern take of the Road Rash gameplay. Loved the bikes, upgrades and combat. A modern take on the Crusader series of games would also be cool. I doubt either of these ideas would get much money on KS though.

edit: apparently the Road Rash inspired game was already kickstarted for $173k and released on early access. It's called Road Redemption. Humm..

Oh obligatory mention of Severance: Blade of Darkness, best combat system i've ever played. Souls included, way before its time.
The canceled sequel was called Evenness.

Nowadays the developers no longer give a shit, working on popamole.

A Silent Storm successor, cos we need total destructibility in its turn-based glory.
A Mechwarrior-esque game, cos we need total customization of huge hulking machines and a chance at mercenary work. (Plz make it so HBS)

I don't know if I'd be able to stomach the inevitable Dark Souls comparisons if a BoD sequel is kickstarted.

That reminds me: Isn't Mech Commander open source now? :troll:

Not that I would want it to happen because it would most probably turn out to be shit, but a new Dark Sun game. But yeah, I don't think this fits the OP's criteria.

A classic RTS in the AoE vein I guess.

One thing about what I have seen in Antharion that bugs the hell out of me is % chance to land healing spells. I get offensive spells, to some degree, but healing spells... that's just borderline retarded.

I'd rather have people pitch some original ideas. I miss not feeling like I've already played this shit everytime I see a new game annoucement.

I want a new stealth game that is just as good as thief, not another thief but without trademarks

I think any RPG that is not set in a "standard" fantasy world could be an "untapped niche".
I wonder how would a Freespace or X-Wing "spiritual successor" do. There's Star Citizen and Elite but there aren't any good modern single player space combat games with a proper campain and missions(there are some ok-ish games but nowhere as good as the classics from the 90s). I would back.
Same with a proper Mechwarrior clone. Sucks that the new Mechwarrior title happened before the whole kicktarter "mania" and they had to turn it into f2p crap. It was planned as a normal game.

I still have the massive butthurt from this.

IP-wise:
Maybe a new Dune RTS game would be something that could squeeze money from nostalgiafags. Or maybe a Dune 1 remake (that would be cool)
Alone in the Dark - oops, scratch that, it's already being resurrested as some uholy abomination.
Terra Nova remake - unfortunately it's not a very popular game so that's unlikely too happen. I would fork out shekels.
Quarantine remake/spiritual successor.

Honourable "outsider" mention: Elite (not an RPG, but kinda an RPG?).

That's already a thing. Unless you were purposefully mentioning it; alluding to the fact that Elite: Dangerous isn't a very good sucessor.

OT: Something mecha based, possibly a mix of Front Mission and Armored Core. Something akin to the old Tomb Raider games would be pretty cool too.

And I haven't seen a decent single-player tactical shooter in a while. Something like Ghost Recon or Rainbow Six. Hell, I'd take a game in the same vein as Swat 4.

The Kickstarter project that would interest me the most is probably a JVC-headed Might and Magic in the vein of VI-VIII. It's probably not going to happen, though.

Darkest Dungeon has been a big hit (KS + early access stuff) based off modest but well-pitched production values and by selling itself as a hot indie genre ("roguelite", which it really isn't).

I don't think any remaining old IPs with mediocre Kickstarters would do better than that. Maybe an old IP + a really great core pitch that would still be really good without the old IP would outdo just a great pitch.

.

A Star Control-style ship-based space exploration and diplomacy game. Stardock is making an actual Star Control game, though.

Yeah, an "alternate timeline reboot" with no involvement from Toys for Bob If you thought Star Control 3 was a slap in the face (and it was), you ain't seen nothing yet.

Can't wait to see it inevitably show up in the Codex Steam curator list as the new Best Thing Evar.
