I'm pretty sure there's been a thread for it, but I could not find it. So here's a successor to it.

Patch Update 12
Introducing a new Tactical Pause

Hi Everyone

We are back with quite a significant update, especially in our combat system, which has been reworked to support what we internally call focus moments.
304ade3e94efbaae0da8a433c715e609f322d89a.jpg

Tactical Pause
This means that you can use your abilities and pickups during the tactical pause, and the ability's effect will fully play out.

Tactical pause has two modes.

  1. Manual pause is when you press the spacebar. The game will stay paused during all your commands and actions until you press the spacebar again to exit the tactical pause.

  2. An auto-pause occurs when you click a new unit or select an ability. The game stays paused while using an ability or choosing a move destination and will exit the tactical pause once the action is fully completed.

If you have already tried Successor, maybe now is a good time to try this new mechanic, and let us know your thoughts.

Campaigns
Available in the playtest are now three campaigns.

  1. Betrayal a prologue introducing key game mechanics
  2. Revenge introducing the region map
  3. Regicide introduces a medium-sized kingdom map.
For any newcomers to the playtest, you should be playing the campaigns from the top down.
New equipment & legendary Items
We have also added lots of new types of equipment and awesome loot for you to try out.
  • Fangripper bow
  • Blightbloom crossbow
  • Yetitoth spear
  • Bone Splinter mace
  • Khaituns Shiv
  • Sagebane wand
  • Rauhxhirs Tome
  • Rams Anvil
and many more...

Doomed regions.
When defeated in a region (getting wiped out in a battle), you will return in “dishonor” to the kingdom map only to realize that several regions now have been doomed. You will lose the region and the full campaign if you are defeated inside a doomed region.

The KingsGuard
In the Regicide campaign, we have added a showdown with the king at the Capitol in the final region. By viewing the king's combat traits, you can prepare and set up your team of promoted heroes and legendary equipment for the final fight.

As an endnote, we want to share a few cool moments from Successor.

Game update 13
Hi everyone

We are back with another update that mainly addresses general hiccups and bugs during the tactical pause, UI feedback, and enhanced player experience by testing character voices from our dear Lords and Heroes.
ba273ed2e8dad132e5f9eac990ca240930b5f319.jpg

We are still getting lots of feedback through our questionnaire and Discord. Thanks for that. Our focus for the past weeks and a few to come are to polish and improve the content already in the game while we are working on the SAVE GAME system, which is highly requested.

We also merge from Unreal 4.27 to Unreal 5. However, this build is still made in UE4, but we expect our next update to be in UE5. (a bit nerdy info. We know)
:steamhappy:

Patch Notes for build 0.6.22.6

Update 16 - Harvest of Fire
Harvest of Fire

We're thrilled to announce another update for Successor!

We're excited to participate in the Dreamshack Beyond indie showcase this week from the 18th to the 28th. As part of this event, we're offering a short demo that provides a glimpse into the world of Successor. Feel free to jump into the demo and try out our combat system, as well as kick some enemies off the cliff.

Version 0.7.4.12

In this update, we're introducing a few story elements, which I like to refer to as "storyramas." These are small diorama setups that reflect pivotal story moments in the game. While some storyramas are designed to be discovered through exploration and quest completion, certain moments serve as introductions to campaigns like these.

Additionally, our character artist has completed the modeling of our scoundrel character. Please give a warm welcome to this new addition.

The scoundrel is affiliated with the Silvercoins, a wealthy and powerful civilization that focuses on amassing wealth through trade and warfare. They share an aesthetic resemblance to the Landsknecht, sporting fine clothing and a penchant for displaying their wealth. They are also responsible for breeding highly skilled mercenaries who offer their services to the highest bidder—much like the scoundrel character.

We're also thrilled to introduce a new biome: the farmlands. Despite its welcoming and peaceful appearance, the cornfields can quickly transform into deadly traps.

With this new biome, we're bringing the farmlands to regions of more civilized origin. Expect lush grass fields, farmland, and pockets of forest and lakes.

We've also updated the general menu and UI, an area we constantly refine.

Please enjoy the demo, and don't forget to add the game to your wishlist or join us on Discord for more updates and discussions.

Meet the Shieldmaiden

6c1ece756e8ceca1e5725699a3bf4edfb33f7853.png

Hi everyone

We have been busy expanding the universe of Successor and continuously deepening and polishing the gameplay experience. With this update, we want to introduce our Shieldmaiden and share some of the feedback from our latest playtest.

Introducing the Shieldmaiden
The Shieldmaiden is a fierce and unwavering warrior of House Greyrose. As a seasoned veteran of the Great War, she found herself fighting side by side with Lord Craig in the conquest against the Old King. She holds honor in the highest esteem and admires true acts of bravery, yet she refuses to betray her own steadfast principles of loyalty. Known for her indomitable spirit, she embodies the very essence of chivalry in a world fraught with betrayal.

Shieldmaiden is a stalwart warrior clad in heavy-plated armor, making her exceptionally capable in melee combat. Armed with a longsword and a large shield, she deftly protects herself against arrows and similar threats, turning enemy attacks into futile efforts.

Shield Bash (Primary Ability):
With unwavering resolve, she delivers a mighty blow with her shield, dealing damage and stunning the enemy. This impactful strike interrupts any of their active abilities, leaving foes vulnerable.

Shield Wall (Secondary Ability):
She raises her shield to protect herself or an ally, increasing the target's chance to block incoming attacks. This defensive stance enhances survivability on the battlefield.

Protective Aura (Trait):
Her steadfast presence protects all adjacent heroes, providing them with additional armor and bolstering their defenses against enemy assaults.

SplatterCatGaming, well-known for his indie game impressions, recently played the Successor playtest. This is a fantastic opportunity to see the game's current state in action. His gameplay video is a great watch—full of valuable critiques and great ideas. It's always a blast when he picks up Successor for a visit. Check it out and let us know what you think in its comment section! https://youtu.be/XzD8XBwzRLw?feature=shared

Feedback from playtesting
Regarding our playtesting session a few weeks back, one of our major issues is generally a lack of communication through UI and interactions and a wish for deeper tactical gameplay.

To address this, we are working on making detailed info about enemy units, their stats, weapons, armor, traits, and abilities accessible, aiding the player in making better tactical decisions.

Feedback highlighted that battles felt repetitive and lacked variety, and playing a defensive stance would win most battles. With the coming updates, we are adding new objectives and enemy abilities that will force the player to adapt to new tactical realities to win.

There was also a desire for more content, including additional skills and hero customization options, to enrich the gameplay experience. We think this is partly due to the short campaigns, as we have yet to introduce larger Kingdom campaigns, where collecting and promoting the correct heroes and items is very important to prepare your party for the upcoming fight against the Ruler. But we will monitor this desire closely.

Add a wishlist and follow to stay updated on the final steps of the development of Successor.

Best regards

Wartile was decent but not great. Its best feature was the board game aesthetics.

Cautiously optimistic for this one.
Could have been a nice little turn based game... why do you make a tile based game and then make it real time :negative:
