Ausir might be on to something... stumbling upon the tomb of Saint Proverbius would be quite fitting.

Codex 2013 Codex 2014 PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire MCA Serpent in the Staglands Dead State Divinity: Original Sin Project: Eternity Torment: Tides of Numenera Wasteland 2 Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 BattleTech Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire
I still like the initial idea of a Codex troll statue + some kind of shrine surrounding it! I don't think we should do a statue of any particular Codexer, even if it's Saint Proverbius.

Codex 2012 Codex 2013 MCA Serpent in the Staglands Dead State Divinity: Original Sin Project: Eternity Torment: Tides of Numenera Wasteland 2 Divinity: Original Sin 2 My team has the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit.
I think that the statue/shrine should be something about the whole Codex and it should be at least partially funny. But we also get to name an NPC, so we could have our character named Saint Proverbius or something that is a reference to him.

How about The Codex Troll, ridin' a horse, and slaying the Multi-Headed Dick Dragon Saint George-style?

I could do that illustrations. And i mean in good quality, similar to that on the picture.

Avellone Troll on the horse shouting "My Turn!" and achieving a critical.
The multiheaded dick monster would have inscriptions of popa mole, real time, emotional engagement, and all other obscenities written on each dick tentacle.

This statue would be at the end of Cleve ITS (or was it ITZ?) bunker with automated defense still working, and mines all around inside (there can be a paper with positions of the mines somewhere inside but it would be intentionally wrong).
Inside in the bunker there can be graves of all important codexers with lulzy inscriptions on each grave, done of course as inscriptions of graves in Fallout and comic Alan Ford, which most of you dont know but is appropriate.
Its a true Codexian comic, only all of you being dumb mass market slaves never heard of it (except bros from my area of the world of course)

Anyway...

The statue itself would "have" imbedded a text adventure of the true story of how ITS(Z) came, preferably done by Cleve himself.
The text adventure would be a trap requiring the player to input correct answers from time to time, killing the whole party if the wrong answer is given.
As a reward the player gets a grenade of holy Lulz... or just the power of LULZ, depending on if you want a Monthy pythin reference or not.

Oh, that's awesome stuff, could be a Codex emoticon even if it doesn't RIDE as the actual in-game statue in the end.

Why not A Good Oldschool RPG, a somewhat modded RPG-7 rocket launcher?

the community of bad-mooded dwellers sounds swell. They'd be lead by guys with monocles and top hats, complaining about the decline in the quality of RPG-launchers, the more obscure (and obese, yet titanium-bones-related-hp-bloated) ones rambling about how "ITZ happening" etc. It should be able to write this in a way that isn't overly obstructive on the overall game. and it should be done tastefully of course, like all leisurely activities M:

also, a book item called "the codex" would be rather straightorward, too.

Nothing wrong with gathering ideas but I'd suggest that we should wait until Inxile shows some sort of a mock-up of how will the graphics look like and when we know more about the game's design. Right now we don't really know what possibly can or can't be effectively implemented, what our options would be.

My fairly vague ideas:

1) If W2 will have usable computers the post-apoc version of the codex could be accessible as an easter egg, with appropriately modified graphics and a couple of lulzy threads with monocled avatars being extremely vitriolic about the "Electric Crafts" company which publishes "Wasterealms 4", the fourth installment of a beloved role-playing game franchise as a first-person shooter. This would also have the perk of being a truly old-school easter egg, in the style of many others found in the older games.
Alternatively a screen showing the post-apoc Codex would pop up when pressing a certain key combination at a certain screen - that would be even more oldschool. Say, it would show up if you hold R+P+G for a couple of seconds together while in the character creation screen.

If it would be possible to browse a couple of threads we could have some about Artificialware's "Stillsummer Days 3", main selling point of which would be thirteen romanceable NPCs and customizable hair count. Also, reminiscent of the fan made fallout project- "Flalot (or Fluffout) 3" which would be a porn game set in a post-nuclear environment, now with an additional boob on each female model.

2) A location that could mesh with the game world without being out of place too much would be a mutant-filled bunker named "Cleveland" or "Base Blakemore" with minute details like wall drawings/takeable items revolving around the Codexian lore but nothing being too obvious so that it doesn't ruin verisimilitude.

3) An NPC named Copegee Rodex or some such that would occasionally drop one liners how everything in the world is shit, keep calling the player a "bro" and if an easter egg is triggered (like, after his "I've nothing more to say" response trigerring ten times) he proceeds to bash design decisions of Wasteland 2 and giving the developers silly (I mean, stupid) names. "Brian Fargo, more like Fry Embargo, amirite". He'd basically work like the funny lines in old Blizzard games where you clicked on a unit more than three times to hear them.

Good idea about the computer. We could have Cleve Ai telling his story.

Thats Kingsguard, wouldnt have anything to do with those hypocrite fucks if they begged me.
Paint me an alligator smile over the helmet and give me a bunch of mutated monkeys flinging shit at me while i stomp them and cut them into pieces, only to have them resurrected - risen as mutated zombie monkeys and we might have a deal.
And get rid of the white stuff too.
Hate the bloody fucks.

:slaps himself and snaps back from visions of that fuck Dayne:

Back on topic...

Having several robots with nicknames of some members inside the shrine could work as good as graves with lulzy inscriptions on them.
Since robots would be all the same basically (and i expect the game will have robots) it wouldnt be as difficult as having different human NPCs instead.

The guardians of incline or something....

Although i suspect we could have more graves and thus more distinguished members "present" in a much more lower, less demanding manner, which would be more realistic in a way.

I agree the statue should be of the codex troll.

I look forward to your picture hiver!

I lack the wit to put something hilarious here
You could have Cleve's unfinished bunker somewhere, with all the automated shit run by Vault-OS, but missing crucial stuff like a door (in true asperger style). Inside you find all sorts of small references on computers or notebooks. It'd have that forgotten ancient lost temple vibe, with players trying to imagine who was here a hundred years ago. It shouldn't be too lulzy or in your face, it should be subdued, subtle, and should fit into the gameworld whether or not you've heard of the Codex.

Or you could find Cleve's logs, read about his years in the bunker, how something went wrong that he hadn't forseen or prepared for, and how he ultimately had to leave his bunker. Something cool. We'd still have the Codex statue to feed our lulz needs.

I was bored so heres a random idea

faircodexia.jpg

Welcome to The Pit( or whatever name it should be). It is a mining settlement in a canyon for various gemstones run by a cult devoted to this grand troll god they worship fanatically. They use slave biodrone/nextgenfags(there would be subtle references to indicate this) for the labor and for various entertainments such as making them fight in the pit in entertaining ways and the ever popular throw the slave into the crack of no return which, according to the elders, has no end.

They are not very friendly to outsiders unless one proves themselves somehow, and may even enslave you.

Anyways, time for bed for me. If anyone likes it feel free to expand/modify

Here's a bug infested cookie for the effort, however generic and shit it may be. No offense, I'm not saying it is; only that it *may* be. :intentional ambiguity:

I like the idea of a separate Codex location with a statue therein, but I doubt it can be as big as you want it to be, Nex. ;)

Something like a small bunker with a statue and, if we're lucky (and get enough additional funds to negotiate this with Fargo), an NPC or two thrown in would be more realistic, I think.

Shit is getting a bit silly eh.. I would love the idea of a Codex statue.. and I mean a fucking statue like Planet of the Apes style, and maybe some scibbles here and there "banal, shit, boring", or a neanderthal grave with titanium bones, very subtle stuff that only we would know about.

The real goal is to present Fargo with x amount, to say thank you for doing this, and to show how much of us are really wanting to make this game happen, in true spirit to Wasteland 1, and uncompromising on game mechanics and gfx. We are here to remind and guard the true values of cRPG, even though we are not in agreement of what a cRPG is. We are here to safeguard proper game development by keeping the forces of decline at bay, the very forces that are subtly pushing the doors to the inExile forum. We are here, Codex, standing proud to the last man, for you Fargo, for MCA, for everyone that still has the fire of true cRPG burning in their hearts and is willing to act upon it. I salute !

Shit's always been silly. Video games are silly. It's okay to be silly. :P

Hmm, "banal shit boring" is a nice idea...
