With No E3, Video Game Industry Comes Together to Launch Summer Game Fest Event
The four-month virtual "season" will feature announcements, playable demos of upcoming titles, interviews, panels and more from leading developers and publishers, curated by The Game Awards creator, producer and host Geoff Keighley.

With the summer's largest video game convention, Los Angeles' E3, officially canceled, multiple major video game companies have come together to launch Summer Game Fest, a four-month rollout of news, announcements, playable demos of upcoming games, interviews, panels and more from leading developers and publishers.

Participating companies include 2K Games, Activision Publishing, Bandai Namco Entertainment, Bethesda, Blizzard Entertainment, Bungie, CD Projekt Red, Digital Extremes, Electronic Arts, Microsoft, Sony Interactive Entertainment, SQUARE ENIX, Private Division, Riot Games, Steam and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Summer Game Fest will run from May through August.

The Game Awards creator and producer Geoff Keighley will curate content for the event, as well as host and produce pre- and post-show specials for specific news reveals. Video game memorabilia and collectible company iam8bit will also serve as producers and curators of additional programming to be revealed at a later date.

Programming for the Summer Game Fest event will be broadcast across all major streaming platforms, including Twitch, YouTube, Mixer, Twitter, Facebook and beyond. As part of the event, developers will make playable demos of their upcoming games available for a limited time to gamers.

"It's been a busy quarantine, really doing a lot of listening to where different game developers are and what can help them, as well as listening to fans about who really want to believe in something bigger," Keighley tells The Hollywood Reporter. "It felt like maybe there's a chance to start something new from the comfort of home."

While this summer will not see an E3 event for the first time in decades, game companies (as well as media outlets like IGN) have organized their own virtual events to share news with consumers, including next week's Inside Xbox show which will reveal footage from games on the company's next-gen console, Xbox Series X, due out this holiday season.

"Everyone's going to do their own digital events, but how do you find a place that is a central repository of everything that's happening this summer in games?" says Keighley of the Summer Game Fest. "We're not trying to compete with anyone, but really trying to be this signpost directory to all the things that are happening."

I guess we'll see what shows up here.

If there was a man who would create a virus just to cancel E3 it would be Keighley.
Gathering all shit in one place is a good idea, but even Codex can do that, don't see a point in this.

I admire that Geoff correctly concluded that shilling doesn't need the pretense of journalism and now is making bank.

We all laughed at him for being the dorito pope, now he has a net worth about 1 million and is slowly gaining a monopoly on AAA industry announcements. For a shill he's doing pretty well for himself.

Fabulously optimistic. I don't think this game will be announced in such a crowded season. For reasons that it's likely still not ready to be shown, and that it could hurt Ken's ego for low signal/noise ratio.
I have that hunch it will. Levine has been caved-in far too long.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Codex+ Now Streaming! Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is. My team has the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit. Pathfinder: Wrath
If all this aciheves is that actual playable demos become popular again, at least until Covid lockdown ends, then I'd call it a positive.

Whoever organises E3 must be shitting themselves though. The various companies who've pulled out of E3 over the last few years, seem to have doen just fine without it, then BOOM Pandemic.

Microsoft's E3 replacement is three monthly events with the big one in July:

Xbox 20/20: Join Us as We Look into the Future of Xbox

What was already going to be a once-in-a-generation year for gaming – a new generation of consoles, a wave of new next-generation games, and the launch of new ways to play with game streaming – 2020 has become the year that challenged us all and tested every commitment we’ve made in the face of COVID-19. Difficult tests tend to reveal your true priorities, and for us they are the health and safety of our employees, our fans and partners. We also want to be transparent in letting our players know what we are doing and what we are thinking during such a crucial time.

Clearly, this year has challenged us to rethink the way we come together to celebrate the important milestones in gaming, and that means working with the knowledge that we may not be able to come together in the same place. Having seen firsthand the resolve of Xbox players, families and friends coming together, doing the right thing and staying home to help flatten the curve, we’ve all felt energized to rethink our approach. How can we share that feeling of excitement and anticipation we all get in gaming’s biggest moments? How could we capture and distribute that feeling I got when I joined Team Xbox – that moment when I got to see what happens next.

So, what is in store for 2020?

This is a momentous year for Xbox, with our next-gen console paving the way for all our games and services to come together in even better ways. Here’s what 2020 looks like, just to start:
  • Our goal remains to launch Xbox Series X and Halo Infinite this Holiday
  • All 15 Xbox Game Studios teams are hard at work on next-generation games for Xbox Series X and Xbox Game Pass
  • The best development teams around the world are working hard to have their games ready to play on Xbox Series X this holiday
  • For PC players, we plan to support the community by making all our major releases at launch available with Xbox Game Pass for PC, including Halo Infinite, Wasteland 3, Minecraft Dungeons and of course, Microsoft Flight Simulator.
  • We have new updates and titles lined up for Xbox Game Pass for console and PC
  • We’re expanding Project xCloud into new countries and on new devices—and later this year Project xCloud and Xbox Game Pass will come together, enabling you and your friends to play together in more ways.
It’s a lot – and that’s saying something in 2020, a year which could be summed up as “a lot.” With all this in mind, we set out to create new touchpoints to celebrate gaming and share what’s next with our global community.

Xbox 20/20

Starting with the May 7 episode of Inside Xbox, we will be showcasing what happens next in the world of Xbox, every month, which is why we’re calling it “Xbox 20/20.” These monthly moments will take place throughout the rest of the year and will be a way for us to engage, connect and celebrate with you about what’s in store for the next generation of gaming, including what’s next for Xbox Series X, Xbox Game Studios, Xbox Game Pass and Project xCloud. Every month will bring something different. Stay tuned to Xbox Wire for more details.

For the Xbox 20/20 May update, we will focus on giving you a first look at next-gen gameplay, trailers and sneak peeks from a wide variety of publishing partners and independent developers across the globe and industry, including Ubisoft’s recently announced Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and hear from game creators about what they’re doing with their games on Xbox Series X.

We’ll be confirming games that utilize our new Smart Delivery feature, which ensures that you always play the best version of the games you own for your console, across generations. And all the games you’ll see will be Xbox Series X Optimized, meaning they are built to take advantage of the powerful Xbox Series X features that make games look and feel incredible, including 4K resolution at up to 120 frames per second, DirectStorage, hardware-accelerated DirectX raytracing, super-fast load times and much more.

In July, we will dedicate time to focus on the incredible games coming from Xbox Game Studios. A number of our studio teams are looking forward to sharing first looks at new gameplay, insights from development teams being optimized for Xbox Series X, and brand-new game announcements. We cannot wait to share this initial look at what some of those teams are working on.

How to join Xbox 20/20 on May 7

I hope you’ll join me at 8 a.m. PDT on May 7 for the next episode of Inside Xbox and the first moment of Xbox 20/20. You can tune-in on:
  • Mixer.com/Xbox
  • Twitch.tv/Xbox
  • Facebook.com/Xbox
  • Twitter.com/Xbox
  • YouTube.com/Xbox for the 4K stream.
Live language support for the episode will be in English, LATAM Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German and Italian, and the episode will include live Audio Descriptions at /MixerAD.

As we’ve seen in recent weeks, gaming is being used for entertainment, for inspiration, and for strengthening social connections between you and your friends through shared adventures. As you continue to connect with your friends around the world through gaming, we look forward to sharing more of our plans on Xbox Wire so you can all join us as we look into the future of Xbox.

You’ll get more news and updates on Xbox Series X, reveals of new Xbox Game Studios and development partner titles, details on the future of Xbox Game Pass, and much more.

I’ve always believed in the future Team Xbox has been building with its community around the world. To join that vision and make it part of my own responsibilities is something I just couldn’t pass up when I joined the Xbox Marketing team last December and, today, I feel more reassured than ever that we’ll be able to bring it to pass with the help of our community.

Stay safe and be good to one another.

Notice the languages won't include Japanese. Just that should let you know there isn't going to be anything good shown.

A new E3 replacement show including Larian, Paradox and ZA/UM: https://www.guerrillacollective.com/

E3's PC Gaming Show is part of this: https://www.pcgamer.com/pc-gaming-s...ve-for-a-huge-day-of-announcements-on-june-6/

PC Gaming Show joins forces with GamesRadar and Guerrilla Collective for a huge day of announcements on June 6
Clear your calendar, because there's a lot going on.

We're not getting an E3 this year, but we are getting a June 6, and it's going to be a big one for gamers. Along with the return of Sean "Day9" Plott and Frankie Ward at the head of the PC Gaming Show, our sister site GamesRadar will bring us the Future Gaming Show, Paradox Interactive will showcase some of the new things it's working on, and Greg Miller of Kinda Funny will host a new indie-focused digital event called the Guerrilla Collective.

"In the absence of E3 as we know it, showcasing new games in development through events like the PC Gaming Show is even more vital," PC Gamer global EIC Evan Lahti said. "We're excited to join forces with the broadcasts being created by Paradox, Larian Studios, Guerrilla Collective and our friends at GamesRadar to create an exciting day for viewers who love the spirit of innovation and creativity in gaming."

You might already be familiar with the PC Gaming Show, our annual E3 showcase of news and reveals, and if not you can catch last year's show right here. Guerrilla Collective is a new event for 2020, and will feature updates and reveals from indie developers and publishers from around the world, including:
  • 11 bit studios (Frostpunk, This War of Mine)
  • Another Indie (SIMULACRA 2, Yuppie Psycho)
  • Coffee Stain Studios (Satisfactory, Deep Rock Galactic)
  • Fellow Traveller (In Other Waters, Neo Cab)
  • Funcom (Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, Conan Exiles)
  • Good Shepherd Entertainment (John Wick Hex, The Eternal Cylinder)
  • Headup (Bridge Constructor Portal, Pumpkin Jack)
  • Humble Publishing (Temtem, Forager)
  • Larian Studios (Baldur’s Gate III, Divinity: Original Sin II)
  • Modern Wolf (Necronator: Dead Wrong, Out There: Oceans of Time)
  • Paradox Interactive (Cities: Skylines, Stellaris)
  • Raw Fury (Kingdom Two Crowns, Atomicrops)
  • Rebellion (Sniper Elite 4, Zombie Army 4: Dead War)
  • Those Awesome Guys (Monster Prom, Move or Die, Floppy Knights)
  • Thunderful (SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech, Lonely Mountains: Downhill)
  • United Label (Eldest Souls, Röki)
  • Versus Evil (The Banner Saga, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire)
  • Whitethorn Games (Aground, StarCrossed)
  • WINGS Interactive (Later Daters, Lord Winklebottom Investigates)
  • Ysbryd Games (World of Horror, VA-11 HALL-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action)
  • ZA/UM (Disco Elysium)
The June 6 "Games Celebration" will begin at 10 am PT/1 pm ET with the Guerrilla Collective livestream on Twitch, followed by a 30-minute deep dive into games currently in development at Paradox Interactive, which will start at 11:30 am PT/2:30 pm ET. At 12 pm PT/3 pm ET, the PC Gaming Show returns with Sean "Day9" Plott and Frankie Ward once again calling the action—from undisclosed new locations this year, as you'd expect—and at 2:30 pm PT/5:30 pm ET the Future Gaming Show will showcase some of the biggest console, mobile, and streaming games of the year.

To ensure you don't miss any of the big digital game events happening in 2020, keep your eyes on our (not) E3 2020 presentation schedule.
