Searching the net for some KoDP news, I stumbled with this little game.

..you have a few key decisions to make before you begin. You can pick a clan, align yourself with the hardy Elk Clan, the noble Eagle Clan or the traditional Bear Clan. Or you can shove the whole clan system and go it alone. Similarly, you can dedicate yourself to a faith or go for a more worldly approach. Finally you define a personality trait for yourself. Those choices directly impact the life you'll lead—the kinds of quests you'll encounter, the opportunities that will arise and the ways you'll excel in combat.

From those humble beginnings you head off to build a life. At first you'll probably focus on helping your family and clan, driving off competition for resources, hunting down petty thieves, and otherwise protecting your homestead. Maybe you'll get married. Maybe you'll range far from home. Many decisions come down to a binary choice: do violence, or don't. Violence isn't always the best option, but it is usually the fastest route to glory (score, more or less), Epic points and silver. With those things you can improve your lot in life, so while you may want to pick your battles, you'll have to do some fighting.

Fighting comes down to a fairly simple duel system. You face off against a foe with a sword and shield. You have buttons for the same. Combinations of tapping and holding give you shield bashes, blocks, and careful, fast or power attacks. There's a rock-paper-scissors calculation going on in the background, and with that and careful timing you can destroy your foes. With a few successful bouts under your belt, life opens up. You can expand your home, improving your stats in the process. You can buy new gear that gets passed down to your future characters. You can use your Epic points to unlock truly impressive items. And you can range farther afield, encountering new adventures and new challenges.

Wounds are easily dealt with at the cost of some of your hard earned Epic points, but eventually you'll take too many hits in a single fight and die. Even if you're a flawless warrior, death gets us all in the end. When that happens, your character is given a title for his sacrifice and a place in the graveyard. Your glory is marked on the leaderboard, your silver is lost, your points and gear go onto the next generation, and you start again anew. (from Toucharcade review)

Played a while, has some neat ideas but I can see it getting repetitive. It's quite fun for short bursts though.
Oh and IMO it's nothing like KODP.

Damn this is pretty fun. Not KoDP at all beyond the Indo-European barbarian protagonists.

The KoDP part was a bait.

:troll:

But really: doesnt it have choices with important short and long term consequences ? If so, its KoDP-like in my book.

Yeah, Sword of the Samurai is awesome. Lost the count on how many times I finished it.

By the way, its interesting to note that despite Sid Meier being famous for his Civilization series, in truth his original formula - his gaming DNA - is based on the hybrid sim/adventure mini-game mix seen in Pirates!, Sword of the Samurai and Covert Action. I wish he returned to that DNA.

Finally got it. Who else is playing ?

Created an Eagle clan trader. Organized. Acute mind. Pattern-recognizer. Of noble blood. With a fast Saex stab on the right.

Travelled to a lot of places to trade (Kiev, Kami between them) and made a lot of money. Travelled to the neighbour forest and found a treasure. Got stupidly rich.

Then I settled at home to help the clan. Managed to construct all upgrades for my home except the big feast Hall. Got old, married and with children. Rumors in the village told I drank some magic potion (viagra :) ).

Then a darkness beast appeared in the forest and children and cows began to disappear. Went to the forest and appeased the thing with money until I got really old. Then I decided it was a good time to die, and confronted the beast. I killed it, to my surprise. And turned to the clan as a hero.

Then decided to go on a last trip, and died to a lowly bandit on the way. I was too slow and tired.

Died as "Eriksoon the Wanderer". 53 combats won. 15 elk clanners, 8 bear clanners, 9 foreginers, 20 clanless scum, and 1 darkness beast killed. 1 combat lost. Heroic glory.

This game is awesome.

This a billion times. The stories you got out of the way these games went has really never been equaled. True emergent gameplay.

Someone know how many secret items are there to unlock in the game? I got a shamanic bracelet, and a dark mace from killing a darknessborn. Is there anything else?

Also, I think dominance is the most important stat in the game. Followed by health.

What determines whether you succeed in the bride kidnapping quest? Seems random.

Never managed to do it. But managed to kidnap her and marry her forcibly.

Also I noticed that, regardless of level, enemies have different AI levels. Sometimes a level 8 champion behaves like a pussy. Sometimes a lowly level 3 fisherman will fight like a fucking DEMON varying attack types smart use of shield bash countering you, etc.

Oh, and what makes you age? Any quest you do, regardless of combat ? Or just the amount of combats?
