Fingers crossed, potential GOTY and a spot in the Codex hall of fame. Looks very much like that new Oblivion game everyone is talking about.

Has a certain black metal vibe to it. Well, I guess the dark symphonic soundtrack helps, but it's also the visuals. Quite nice, we need more games that go into this dark/gothic atmosphere territory, it's surprisingly underutilised (maybe because it doesn't have mass appeal?)

It's funny, we're playing the Tainted Grail board game rn and it's a fucking blast. Can't believe how board games evolved from my days with Monopoly and Risk.

I had no idea they're making a vidya out of this. Hard to judge from trailers but even if it was just simple aRPG it already looks 10x better than Avowed.

There's the first person ARPG and also a card game that's reasonably good.

I believe that the card game was more directly inspired by the board game whereas this "Fall of Avalon" game was more about the shared world. Not 100% sure though, I haven't played the board game and I was reading about all this a few years back.

The card game is a lot like Gloomhaven’s Guildmaster mode. A barebones sandbox version of the boardgame. Unfortunately they never implemented the campaign like Gloomhaven did, I would have loved to play that.

Oh, TG: conquest is just original approach to Slay The Spire type of game, I don't think it has much in common with a board game.

It is impressive that a decade ago this company was just a two guys painting miniatures for living and now they are producing and publishing computer and board games, with some really good products released. And it's not American dream type of success, they didn't have millions of bucks from their parents to start their business. They are from Poland FFS.

Tainted Grail the Boardgame is excellent. I am not into coop games but I enjoyed that one a lot, after that certain people forced me to play some other campaign games and they were mediocre compared to Tainted Grail.
I've played TG Conquest and it's a solid deck-builder, but of course it is a very different beast from the board game, basically a combat simulator.
This one looks it will be very different to the board game too but I don't think 3rd person games are the best way to convey dense narrative, so it will probably be more of an action game than an adventure.
Anyway I'll keep an eye on it. Maybe I'll give it a chance.

Don't know if this changes anything for you but this is a first person game. They've said they'll add a third person mode for full release because there are always plenty of whiners who like the suffering of playing first person games in third person, but it's just an afterthought.

AFAIK it started as a isometric rpg deckbuilder game on kickstarter. During development they split it into 2 gMes - Conquest (skirmish mode or roguelike) and Fall of Avalon (storyfag rpg).
Then they switched FoA into 1st person game.
Would have preferred it as the original idea, but will play nonetheless

I bought it when I found a key for 3 bucks.

It's a card-builder roguelike. Could be interesting for someone who is into this kind of stuff but for me it's not a great fit considering I don't like:
1. card builders
2. roguelikes

Had another 10 hour session of the board game today.

First of all, this game must've been A BITCH to develop, with all the branching paths and complicated story.

And also, the choices and consequences there are 10x better than 90% of all video RPGs I've ever played, and I've played most of them. I keep being blown away.

Something like this has to be experienced at least once by anyone fancying themselves an RPG afficionado, preferably in a group of 3-4 people (which is sadly very hard to do because you have to play at least once a week to keep the memory embers glowing and the game is easily 60 hours long).

I enjoyed some aspects of the board game, but I think it absolutely pales mechanically to quite a few similar releases from the last few years. Especially Gloomhaven.

Much like Isofarian Guard I found it too grindy, and it doesn’t have the novelty and variety of Isofarian Guard’s combat system. It doesn’t really compare favorably to any semi-recent campaign release, to be honest. The tedium it has a board game is one of the reasons I think it’s a little sad they never released a digital campaign - much like Isofarian Guard, a digital release would alleviate some, if not all, of the game’s issues.

Cool atmospheric design, though.

I played only digital Gloomhaven, mechanically it's more involved but the vibe and witing is just some generic fantasy pap. Having way more fun with TG.

Also we're playing with the 2.0 rules designed to mitigate the grind and from where we stand it worked.

It's going to be 1st person. They will only add 3rd person in time for release, but it is not designed as a 3rd person game (like TES).

It's very cool story & atmosphere wise, but not balanced very well. Played it a couple of years back and got the party wiped during the 2nd session - nobody wanted to restart after that.
Also the combat system was more tedious than fun.

p.s. check the ISS Vanguard from the same devs.

Ahhhh, I didn't know the boardgame released 2.0 rules to fix the sloggy grindyfest. Perhaps I'll drop out of society for a week to give it another try.

The biggest change is you don't HAVE to eat food at the end of the day, nothing happens if you don't. Altho we find you still wanna do it most of the time, for the sanity and health restoration coz man, some encounters can rough you up p. bad.

That brings me to the difficulty question of this game - the board game is famously difficult, I wonder if they keep it in the vidya (or maybe we'll get standard diff options).

Man, I've had this game on my list for a long time, but I missed the chance to purchase it when it was in Early Access. Oh well, 44€ then...
