See how they went from the A-list voice talent hired by Interplay > Mark fucking Meer?. Credit where it's due you muppets. Xzar was voice by Frank Welker who played Megatron in the G1 Transformers cartoon - and I think is one of the highest paid actors in hollywood - in terms of bringing in the most money per year. I just saw his name in the Gremlins credits this Chrismas, alongside Peter Cullen - Optimus Prime.

And Jim Cummings (who voiced Minsc) is also right up there as well. He also did a load of work on the cartoons I grew up with, and was the voice behind a top kids film recently - Frozen, or one of those stupid kids films they make these days.

Edit: Atchodas rates my post as "cuck" and then probably goes back to their ME porn.

"To go in and work on the Mona Lisa, you're going to work on the frame, you're going to replace the glass, but you're not going to alter the painting itself."

Dude doesn't realise that what kind of frame the painting gets was a major artistic decision with a clear, striking, immediate effect on the beauty of the painting, and that nobody who actually has any competency in art would hire a bunch of hacks like him to come in and put a nice shiny plastic white frame on that Mona Lisa

They didn't even only touch the frame, though. They glued some pieces from da Vinci's other works (using the engine and adding classes from BG2), tried to touch the colors up a bit but it only ended up looking blurrier, drew an extra finger on her hands (new companions) and removed da Vinci's name from it and added their own on top.

Baldur's Gate (Original) doesn't start. I checked my ini file and everything is fine but when I launch it, all that appears is a black screen, no intro either.

Nah, I tried playing the EE’s but the graphics and UI are ugly, so I’m going back to the original.

Are you using the GOG edition? The original CDs may have issues with modern systems.

I also use GOG version and it runs fine. I have the same ini file as you, except for the "full screen" line which doesn't appear in mine.

Guys, my 150 Baldur's Gate write-ups are based on installs from original optical media bought when the game came out.

Maybe learn how to use a PC?

I don’t know why, but somehow my anti-virus was interfering with it, after I uninstalled it, game worked fine.

I've noticed that as I go through my catalogue of physical games on my latest rig - anti-virus and windows picking up on the installation/publisher as unverified, etc. That's why I kept my unmolested '98 and XP PC.

Are you using ToBex, by chance? That may be why tour AV was acting up. It rebuilds some engine functions. Its I highly recommended mod.

What do you guys think of me posting a thread to get people to tweet Swen so they can hire Chris Avellone for Baldurs Gate 3 writing?

'Baldur's Gate' at 21: How a Small Team Made a "Smoking Pile" Into a Gaming Classic
The iconic role-playing game's original programmers detail the long, bug-ridden road to the screen.

Has any smart ass yet said that then Beamdog turned it from a classic into a 'smoking pile'?.

I remember watching that reinterpreted opening cutscene for the enhanced edition and thinking it was all downhill from there

I know the prerendered CG was dated as fuck, but come on, it's all part of the experience. You don't just remove that shit, it'd be like making a replica of the Titanic that somehow won't sink on impact with an iceberg

Well from the point of selling the game (and we do agree that selling the game is the main motivation here do we?) to the modern audience it was kind of a justified move. The problem is they wanted to cater both fans and modern audience.

No, yeah, I agree it was definitely profit-motivated. But I mean, if their goal was to cater to fans, the least they could do would be to include the original FMVs and add an option to toggle them or something.

It's not like modern devs give a shit about making games smaller anymore

Hi. I asked this on Beamdog forum, but didn't get a full answer. Maybe somebody will help me here.

    I have read some articles:
    1) http://www.bigorrin.org/amn2a.htm
    2)http://www.angelfire.com/hero/tjekanefir/throne.htm
    and found out about this:

I asked: "Is it really true? They cut off this npc-reaction features in Shadows of Amn?" and got an answer, that you can get caught stealing in houses, but unfortunately there are only a select few places where this can happen.

So, basically in SoA we have many places where NPC's wouldn't react even if they see you? It's so strange. I don't understand why the developers did this. Is it the same in BG1?
And also: Do some stores close at night and some NPC's (those in buildings) go to sleep in SoA? I just don't have access to game right now to test all of this by myself. I forgot about everything. Played BG last time 10 years ago.

    1) NPC's hostile reaction to stealing is pretty random in both games, but it happens more often in BG 1 where generic houses and shops populated by unnamed NPC are more prevalent. It seems that Bioware was copypasting triggers with the maps, so all 3 "Smithy" maps in BG2 has alarm system.
    2) I know at least one trader in Waukeen's Promenade that moves to his house at nights (Maheer), and couple of traders in Docks and Potion lady on Bridge that work only at day hours. Several "Fencer" NPC appear only at nights (in Docks, Bridge, Slums and Promenade) and they tend to have more interesting item selections with some rare scrolls. One notorious guy in Promenade even has steal-able assortment of +2 weapons.
