I can understand why The Codex hates a huge focus on graphics ... but when did that extend to hating art direction? Colour scheme is kind of important.
>Since it went :retarded:

These days there isnt much more to it then heaps of degenerates complaining about graphics. Or hairstyles.

Bad enough Hollywood colored every movie in the past three years teal and orange. Now it's catching on in the game industry.

Hollywood also thought it was a good idea to cast Vin Diesel as the lead, and before long Ubisoft decided to give it a try.

What's next, criminally low frame rates passed off as "exciting Michael Bay-style camerawork"?

Okay, so that was just one day... one picture. I think it was like a Sunday, and I saw this black and gold advert - I have no idea what it was. But it just struck me - this could be a great palette, it's never really been used in videogames

Bro this is so true, guys like Peter Molyneux and even Richard Garriott are now giants producing amazing fucking games, unlike back when they didn't know shit and made Ultima and Populous. Haha have you played those games? Fucking terrible. Bethesda and Bioware keep getting better and better as well, because they are more experienced.

Trying too hard. Both Garriott and Molyfag basically started from scratch, designing their own games in a time when computer games were an emerging medium as a slightly more complex tool than shit arcade games, when publishers were showing up and going bankrupt daily, when the developer-publisher relation dynamic was in its infancy and the most serious developer of its time didn't equal a quarter of the publishing giants today. You can't compare it to now when MIB assign a consoltard faggot to develop a sequel to an already established cult series to which they own the rights, with 20+ years to "modern gaming".

Plus, you just ended up defending the guy saying "black and gold; a first in games!".

Fucking newfags. Always trying too hard.

* I still want to see what the hell these were supposed to be dammit.

** Odd. They show up now but only when I copy the image URL to a new tab and come back?!? I guess I was the only one who couldn't see them?

Idk, they don't show up for me either anymore, must be something with the host. Let me fix it. THE WORLD MUST KNOW.

PS: The auithor's site is down it seems, but in theory you can dl the game there, complete with preconfigured winuae. For free. Without DRM. Because it's 20 years old. And abandonware. That is, until GoG starts selling Amiga games.

I like the, "Why are you upset over the colors?!" responses.

What else are we going to comment on, the play control? This entire thread is about the color scheme, thanks to a website thought it was noteworthy enough to print an article about nothing but the color scheme. They're the ones who brought it up. If it were a paragraph nitpicked out of a longer article, I wouldn't have commented.

It's as if they ran an article just saying that Deus Ex 3 makes you use the arrow keys instead of WASD. And the designer is quoted patting himself on the back:

"I don't know how I thought of it, it came to me in a dream!"

So we point out that hey, maybe arrow keys went out of style for a reason, people need their right hand for mouse control. And then someone says, "Oh my god! ALL you want to talk about is ARROW KEYS! Why don't you talk about the plot or RPG mechanics? You are arrow keys whores!"

I'm still wondering how much of the game has this color scheme. The art director from the interview admitted they've ripped off Blade Runner in that regard, but BR didn't have a single color filter over everything 100% of the time. If you fast forward through the movie, you'll see the (in)famous blue and orange lighting used tastefully in some scenes, but not in most, whereas pretty much everything we've seen so far from DX:HR looked the same.

Even the Blade Runner game (the fact that Jean Jacques Blacques has no idea the game even exists is pretty amusing) is much more colorful than you'd expect, and in ways that make sense. Just look at these screenshots, and compare them with what you get when you enter "deus ex hr" in google image search.

Seriously, WTF?! What the hell was wrong with the blue and grey colors of the original two (at least those were the prominent colors on the two boxes)? Jesus, this game is going to suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck!

I stared into the abyss far too long, don't know if this is serious or not

As you've said at the beginning, responses where "Why are you upset over the colors?!", not "Why are you upset ONLY over the colors and not over something else?!".

I still use arrow keys. This is because I am one of these rare, superior human models with expanded hemisphere-to-hemisphere bridge and swapped primary/secondary manipulative appendages.

Arrow keys are superior when you're playing consoltard arcade games (because they often don't come with a control scheme suitable for mouse at all), so DraQ is trying tell us something, I guess.
