This is just getting better and better. Is there a part of this port that actually works? :D

This isn't just an issue with Dark Souls, but pretty much any game that's been ported from the 360 version. They only officially support the 360 pad, other 3rd party controllers are all messed up and must be configured with that aforementioned 360ce tool.
Oh I'm aware of that. Remember that I bitched about this in the Sleeping Dogs thread? That game had the same problem. Non-xbox controllers were fucked up. Unfortunately x360ca didn't helped about that.

Right, so I played this up to arkham daemon? Honestly, it was 20 minutes ago and I can't even remember its name, but it's the dude you fight on the narrow corridor with a giant axe, and two crossbow dudes behind you.

The port is ridiculously bad. It's almost inconceivable how lazy they've been. All the tooltips still say press 'a' to jump and what not. And then you get to shit like "Press right trigger + x to jump". Here's the thing: If you release a game on the xbawks, you don't make constant references to the sixaxis, and if you release a game on PS3, you don't make references to the kinect. And when you release a game on the PC you don't fucking refer to the right trigger button because it doesn't fucking exist :x. And don't even get me started on the camera.

But here's the kicker: The game doesn't seem that good either. It's by no means bad, but it's hardly OMG bestest RPG in the last decade!!!111 either. Maybe it gets better as you go on, but I doubt it. But so far combat has either been a twitcher rollfest or a simple block->spam attack.

I eagerly await someone teling me I'm doing it wrong and that the true dark souls experience starts with X.

Looks like fucking shit too. Tried the fixes but just get the image in a tiny corner of the screen. What a joke of a fucking derivative pile of consoletard shit.

Turn off the in-game AA. It's not actually AA, just a blur filter.

The res fix does still currently have problems with bloodstain text disappearing and shitty DOF still being present though.

What's fucked up? My PS3 controller is working fine. On screen prompts are wrong, but who needs tutorials.

Yeah, people have definitely overhyped the shit out of this game. I enjoyed it for the most part when I played it, but it's not the brutally difficult genre changer people try to make it out to be. It's really little more than a 3D metroidvania style game with a lot of grinding and trial-and-error obstacles. I do like its varied enemy and level designs, and its combat system. It's a shame the pc port completely butchered the game. One of the laziest hack jobs I've seen; I don't care how small or inexperienced with pc porting FROM Software is, there's no excuse and no defending such a failure.

I REALLY want to see this superiority in action because as it stands it looks like the Emperor not only has no clothes, but has no fucking skin either! So far I can rattle off 8-10 better ARPG's than this.

Tell me, I would like to download some stuff and expand library. It should have reasonable graphics, however. It should be at least DoMoM, or VtM:B like graphics.

This brings back Risen 1 memories, all that blocking and attack, then Fred came. And what had been slow stuff, I play on ironman and can't take too much risks, became carnage.

Resolution fix v2 is out. Fixes words on bloodstains. Still some niggling DoF issues but game looks great.

Most codexers and other non-retards have agreed that the difficulty hype is just consoletards being consoletards. The level design and atmosphere is really the strong point for me. The obstacles really aren't trial and error for the most part, you can observe and avoid most difficulties if you are careful.

You can force AF in your driver. The next version would allow to choose AF quality after few people complained it knocked down theirs cards.

Knocking down to theirs knees doesn't mean destroying them, they still looks up to you and breathe. If I wanted to say obliterated, or bricked, I'd say it.

People play games without 16x AF? It's like a 5% performance drop max on any card in the last 3 or 4 years and makes textures look 10x better. No matter how good your game looks without AF textures look like shit, it's the first thing anyone should be forcing.

Yeah, the level design is really nice in this game. I like how after you kill the gargoyles and ring the first bell, you're given a nice view of the areas you've conquered to get to this point as well as a glimpse of what's to come. Gives a good feeling of real accomplishment and progression, and pumps you up for more. I tend to prefer smaller and more connected open-world environments like this than something large, empty and forgettable like Skyrim.

Skyrim is forgetable because of level scaling. You can't come to a groove in the middle of nowhere and say there was that incredible bastard who nearly wiped me out. Or in this forest, I tried to find an NPC for more than 5 hours...
Every encounter is similar and difficulty don't depends on area, thus it's mostly the same.

What does this game do better than Severance(thanks Abnaxus) regarding combat? Witcher regarding story and c&c? Gothic, regarding exploration and sense of progression?
Or Wizardry 8 regarding party creation, or Arcanum regarding quests, or ToEE regarding the turn-based combat, or Dragon Age 2 regarding warehouses...

Because clearly if a game isn't better than every single other game before COMBINED, surely is shit. It has been only 11 years since Severance, we don't need a filthy clone! Also, Fargo should stop making Wasteland 2; we already had W1 24 years ago and there is no way that it will have better romances than Mass Effect.

Ok, one last thing or two in the interest of fairness.

So far no-one who claims this is so damn great has demonstrated in any way why it is so, but I'll play it through to the end and if it has cool bits I'll shout them out here. Hell I gave Arcania a go from start to finish so why not this? Problem is that I haven't the slightest interest in going back to the game and that really shouldn't happen in any half decent game.

I'm beginning to understand the hype and acclaim this game gets though. Earlier I was looking through the prism of a PC gamer rather than a consoletard and if you have Gears of War, Halo, Sonic and Devil May Cry as your game choices then of course DS looks like the second coming what with stats and shit just like a real ARPEEGEE!

I also failed to take into account for the tastes of consoletards: Here's some acclaim from them for Arcania:

Once the demo got to the cave, I was totally floored. Loved every moment of it from then on out. Combat was enjoyable, graphics were quite good if you ask me, and so much variety in enemies.

Id prob take this over new vegas myself.

I will start by saying that I am enjoying this game. I think that comparing this (or ANY other RPG) to Oblivion isn't a fair comparison. Oblivion was a remarkable game that set THE standard for an open-world RPG, but using it as a benchmark for any game even -remotely- in the RPG genre is misleading. There is far more to the RPG experience than stunning graphics and/or control schemes.

and Dragon Age 2:

Fantastic Game.. I love all Bioware games. The gameplay is much better than the first version. The story is so much more intriguing, the combat is much more accessible and the best part is the length of the game

Don't listen to the haters rating the game below 5, they are hardcore nerds mad that the game is now more accessible to a broader audience. This game lives up to all the hype and is a ton of fun to play. Well worth the $60 in my books.

So yeah, CB, JC...I understand where you're coming from, I really do....:smug:

I know this is a stressful time for you, but can you take a deep breath, sit down, and show us where on the doll From Software touched you?

I like all the parts about Crooked Bee not knowing any better than console RPGs though. How's your Uukrul LP?

I just tried the extended demo (with the tweak).

-This game looks atrocious.

-Has black bars (1920x1200).

-Is not really playable with KB and mouse.

-Has a windows mouse pointer in the middle of the screen for some reason.

-Is slow as molasses (30 fps lol) and unresponsive.

-Has a sickeningly small FOV.

The fact that you have to press "End" (!) to access the menu says a lot about the efforts that went into this port.

Uninstalled.

Where'd you get the extended demo at?

Fucking piece of shit of a port, keyboard + mouse feels horrendous and the graphical options are a joke. I don't even play videogames any more lately, but I've kept waiting for this one game, in the hopes that it'd give me that spark of interest I used to have these past few years, when a good game would hold a firm grip over my free time. No dice, not yet anyways, I'm hoping that either the fans or the producers will fix the current problems through patches & tweaks, but to be honest, what-the-fuck-ever.
