Alright. Bell gargoyles are deaders.

I also met the Capra demon accidentally, and alomzst finished him but alas space was tight so I died. and I learned later that I need his key to get to the depths, which leads me to Blighttown. Well, I managed to find a different way through the Dragon valley, and to my surprise there were only 3 fat kingcomrades, and then I got to Blighttown (just to die on some fucking poison arrow).

Which makes me wonder wether getting to the 2. Bell, maybe it should be better if I approach Blighttown through the Depths instead? Do I get faster there? And where the fuck can I find more bonfires?

Approaching from Dragon Valley actually cuts out about 4/5ths of Blighttown. I kind of like the place though, so you might want to back up and do it normally.

There's generally about 2 bonfires per area, sometimes 1 for smaller areas. Most of the time you find shortcuts that let you regain progress quickly, so make sure to look around for them.

Blighttown's no fun at 15 fps. Hopefully the guy comes up with a fps fix for his mod, I'd hate to go back to blurry backgrounds.

Shit, which boss is this? I never knew that
Ceasless Discharge, that HUGE lava bro after the spider wicth... just grab the black robe armor and run as fast as you can back to the entrance, he'll follow you, but there is a abyss were he is walking, so he will jump and grab on the ledge...if you do like 5 hits to his hand, he let's go, fall and die! :P

Fighting Ornstein and Smough now. Holy fuck do they murderize shit.

EDIT: Heh, once I figured out that making love to Smough's crotch avoided 3/4ths of his attacks it wasn't so hard :P

I reached the bottom of Blightown.

Fucking
Poison.

It's so damn slow it hardly matters. More important is the ring that lets you move full speed through water. Can't remember where I got it though.

:rage:

First time I tanked him, second time I gamed him in the little alcove, would have much preferred this method.

Major letdown on my mage build - You cannot, in fact, riposte with the pyromancer hand. What a shame. Was hoping to shove my fist into their chest and do some kind of mortal kombat fatality.

But there's a hand that do that, you even drain their humanity... and it block!

Anyway, new DLC boss is awesome, very good fight. I got the hang of it, but I'm just too underpowered ATM... gonna grab ma CRYSTAL SOUL SPEAR and then we'll talk again.

Rusted Iron Ring, found in the Northern Undead Asylum revisited (and you need the key from the roof at firelink)

The poison from the swamp not, but the one the enemies throw at you is an overkill.

I guess its sarcasm, but you are supposed to control the camera with the right stick and not the left one right?

I didn't understand whether this was your particular problem, but someone said they couldn't both sprint and turn the camera because their thumb was busy. Some have solved the problem by using their index or middle finger to sprint while still controlling the camera with their thumb.

From reading what you posted I thought you might be having trouble seeing enemies before they see you, in which case I don't know why you'd need the sprint button at the same time. If your problem is dying, there's no amount of sprinting into danger that will cause you to die less. Maybe Marsal can explain.

They gain a +% damage per point in each, it isn't averaged.
Weird, then how come my club gets the biggest bonus of all my weapons, even tho it only has a C in str, while others have a C in both?

It's base damage is higher? Again, +% off base damage. An A in a weak weapon might only be as good as a C in a stronger one.
No. Comparing specifically the Reinforced Club with the Claymore, at 26 str, 12 dex, both weapons normal +5, the club does 145+61 and the claymore 154+54.

Also, the ratings are a range. Some weapons may be C+ and others may be C-, or anything in between.
How can you tell?

Two other possibilities:

Club requires less Str to weild than Claymore, so it gets more bonus damage because you're exceeding the requirement by more, relatively (note the claymore is still doing higher total damage.)
You're two handing the club but not the claymore. Two handing a weapon effectively increases your Str by 50%.

Not sure if either of those is actually the case though. I never cared much for blunt weaons myself.

I couldn't actually be arsed to figure out who was asking the questions so I'll answer the quote monster.

It appears that the stat modifier ratings are not exact, ie a C could be +10% or +15% (as an example). So even though different weapons have the same modifier, they won't scale the same.

Also yeah, two-handing a weapon increases your damage, but I'm not sure if it's because of strength. I seem to remember dealing more damage while two-handing a lightning weapon and those have null stat modifiers.

I switched to a different PC (played on my wife's laptop while being away, moved to my desktop after getting back home) and suddenly the game became much more playable. Mouse camera stopped being super-jerky and finally allows me to move efficiently (Windows mouse sensitivity settings?). Finally managed to kill the damn armored boar and made some progress.

Better graphics are also a nice bonus.

BTW, the system requirements printed on the box are pulled completely From Software's ass. They say game needs at least an X4 3.0 Ghz and a 6000-series Radeon, while the game was completely playable (FPS-wise) on a X2 2.3 Ghz Turion and Mobile 5650, in display's native 1600x900.

Right now I'm using the battleaxe + hollow soldier's shield, plus initial wanderer armor. I also cheesed myself into getting the Drake Sword, but can't use it yet (not enough Strength) and wasted some points in my build. I could see myself replaying this game, unless it proves to be really long.

Well I decided to play more despite my grumbling, and I gained a bit more ground before I quit again. Killed the undead burg knight, killed the undead parish knight and got his shield, killed the gargoyles my first time and rang the bell, rescued some golden shithead, and that's about it. Thinking about upgrading my sword or shield, but I've only got two twinkling titanite. Not sure if I want more dakka or more blocking. Initially I thought more dakka, but blocking with a shield has become more useful than I previously thought against big dudes.

Was going to head to the forest looking place but buddybro informed me that the key I got from the gargoyles (I guess? I didn't remember getting the key from them but he says that's where I got it) apparently will open up the doors I couldn't get through back in undead burg so I might check that out. Definitely going to wait until I do whatever upgrading/souling I'm gonna though.

what weapon are you using? there aren't many good weapons that require twinklings for upgrade, especially not that early. i gather you're using the Black Knight shield? if yes, feel free to upgrade it 'cause it's a pretty good medium shield that will be useful quite often due to that nifty 95% fire block and good stability. there are better shields out there, but not many and not by much

you got the keys near the armoured boar. the door you're looking for is the one near solaire/red drake

Also yeah, two-handing a weapon increases your damage, but I'm not sure if it's because of strength. I seem to remember dealing more damage while two-handing a lightning weapon and those have null stat modifiers.

it's both because of the moveset (2h is kinda the "heavy moveset") and str (if a weapon scales with it)

they nerfed the eagle shield! weee!! (and dwgr, hornet, apparently hyperarmour is back in for heavy str weapons...)

I SO want to drop this game but everyone keep saying how good it is and I am having second thoughts. Not that I am having fun with it, oh no. The difficulty seems to come from atrocious controls and spiralling into chasms to certain death, also from the way in which combat works here - chaining hits and avoiding encirclement seem vital, but with those controls its nearly impossible...

Help guys, should I give it more tries?

Yeah, course you should.

The start is the most difficult part in some ways, because you don't know what you're doing, don't understand the combat, haven't got used to a way of fighting etc. Once you improve yourself and your character then you start making more progress.

And once you've completed the game and restart it, it's completely different. You waltz through to the first bell in about an hour at most.

And if you get stuck, read this http://thebaneofqueequeg.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/much-ado-about-nothing.html

Astora's Sword or something like that. Been avoiding reading spoilers, but I've been talking to a buddy who played on console since he's been curious about my progress. Bumbled in to that sword and the dragon shield immediately as soon as I left that hub world. He said that sword was pretty good early on and it definitely seemed better than my starting broadsword. Then he also said that area was probably way too tough for me which seemed confirmed by a dracolich whapping me in one hit as soon as I picked the sword up.
And yeah, using the black knight's shield now. IIRC I was using a regular knight shield before that, but black knight seemed to have better physical resist and way better magic/elemental resists.

After understanding what the master key does a bit more I almost kinda regret taking it as my gift. Sounded the most useful out of the list, but since I'm playing mostly blind (Mostly since I ask him about basic game mechanics stuff like how miracles work since the game didn't really give me a tutorial, and since I'm playing offline and don't get player hints) it might've been better to play "In order". Sounds like I'm back on track though. And I guess I can't complain too much since I got a cool sword out of it, and I think it unlocked a side room or two in undead burg.

don't bother upgrading astora's sword. it's an okay weapon for a good chunk of the game if fully upgraded (it may even last you until the end if you have the patience), but there are much, much better alternatives out there. the broadsword is crap because of the moveset, the longsword is better (even if it deals slightly less damage). this early on... try a halberd, longsword, or get the zwei (and/or the winged spear) from the skellie graveyard and upgrade those with the titanite you can buy from the first blacksmith. btw, do you plan on going Str, Dex or Str/Dex (or something else entirely :))?

Hmmmmm. Righty-o. I'll probably dump my twinklies in my shield then. Pretty sure I found a longsword, and that'd probably upgrade using regular titanite which I've got 8+ pieces of I think. Haven't found a graveyard yet.
Raised my faith up to 14 to use Astora's sword, then I've been dumping everything in to STR, END, and VIT. All 3 of those are around 16 points now IIRC.

alrighty, then.. ignore my previous suggestions. those are all str/dex weapons, you might want to consider a "pure" str weapon (still, it would be good to have 12 dex for the most basic bows because they can save you in a pinch quite often :)) and stick to small axes and blunts (morning star, mace, pickaxe, battle axe, hand axe, reinforced club) and later on switching to the larger ones (large club if one of the giant cunts in blighttown drops it, great club, greataxe) if you don't find them too slow and don't mind playing 2handed from time to time and sticking to lighter armour (you won't need the poise anyway, if the reports of hyperarmour are confirmed)

you might also consider upgrading one of those str/dex weapons (longsword, halberd, zwei etc...) to Divine (easier/cheaper to upgrade than astora's sword) when you get the divine ember to Andre and acquire some green titanite

btw, the graveyard is in Firelink
