DSFix 9 out. SMAA is now integrated. No hud blurring from driver-forced stuff and works for supersampled resolutions.

I saw you can aim with ranged weapons on a movie but see no key for that on PC, anyone can tell me how to do this?

Also any tips on a good 1h weapon for a mage? Not that I need it as I'm killing everything with spells but it could help in a pinch. Using a +5 axe now.

Hate how nothing is described in this game. I have like 5 types of shield and cant see how are they different... good thing that soul arrows/greater/massive etc kill all.

Once you've got the correct Titanite - it is very much worth it getting yourself a Heavy Crossbow and enchanting it all the way up. Very efficient and useful once you can do the Fire/Lightning enchants to let it hit like a truck.

fire enchantment on crossbows is useless since there are no fire bolts. +15/+5 lightning Avelyn is still the king of crossbows. feels like something the bridgeburners would've used :P

Bros any hint on good 1h weapon? I'm SL49 before Sen's Fortress and still using that Drake Sword from Undead Burg. Actually, any MAJESTIC weapon could help as well.

that lightning spear is pretty decent (it's pretty much the drake sword mk2) but if you got the Dex, get a falchion/scimitar +10 asap and then when you get to the giant blacksmith you'll be able to forge a weapon that will easily last you until the end of the game (if you still have quelaag's soul). plus, it looks badass ;)

What was the verdict on the PC port then? Was it as bad as it sounded when shown at E3?

peformance-wise, definitely not. plenty of vids on the net with people playing smoothly on high resolutions while recording with hardware that probably isn't quite in line with "alienware gaming laptops".

edit:

I saw you can aim with ranged weapons on a movie but see no key for that on PC, anyone can tell me how to do this?

i'm assuming you have equipped a bow in your left hand. so you press the "block key" (or L1 on ps3. left trigger on x360?) to equip it two handed, and then press the same key once again for manual aim.

if you have the spell slots to spare for an enchantment (great magic weapon is good enough, especially early on with the oolacile catalyst), keep using normal weapons (the hand axe is quite underrated). later on, if you have high Int, you can forge the butterfly horn (very long spear that deals pure magic damage), get the moolight greatsword (pure magic greatsword with awesome R2 attacks) or velka's rapier, for example. the channeller trident is also cool, but probably one of the hardest things to get in the game

shields are differentiated by their stability and their physical defences. it's kinda self-explanatory and quite obvious (except maybe for the stability thing). as a rule of thumb, stick to shields with 95-100% physical def, and the highest possible stability

Lightning spear is good. At the moment it does better damage than my +5 claymore. Also got the stats (18 DEX) to use black knight sword since my buddy swears up and down it's great, but I dunno. It has a horrific thrust.

you should've upgraded your clay to +10 by now :P

When you are in your inventory screen there's a button you can press to switch what properties of a selected item are displayed, including the specific stats of your shields. You're mostly looking for stability (more = less easy to break your guard) and physical resist (how much damage a successful block will reduce), but also weight and type (the largest shield can't parry).

That said, a lot of the charm of the game comes from knowing very little. You're just thrust into this strange this place and figure you'll learn about it as you go- and you do, but only glimpses. Everyone pieces it together differently- and by the time the game is over you're none the wiser.

With the bow equipped, use the offhand attack and you go into FPS mode. It's only for bows though, dunno why crossbows don't get it.

Every weapon that's +5 can get ascended to a magic weapon that gets magical damage based off your intelligence stat. Check the dude in a cell in new londo. What weapon would work best for this depends on your stats, and you may simply want to continue upgrading the normal path.

You can get detailed information for each item from the inventory screen. You'll have to figure out what button that is for yourself. There are a few special effects that will only be mentioned in the textual descriptions of the item, but everything else is in the stats.

Ok, I'll check it out, thanks! And I can be like one of those warriors from Hammerfell, since my character is black:roll: also, those character faces look like they were taken from Oblivion anyway:lol:

Also, what's going on with this whole Artorias of the Abyss DLC bundled in Prepare to Die Edition? I haven't seen any hint about its content, trigger, or any details whatsoever on the interweb, nor in the game, but I can't say I'm surprised by the latter.

Killed the abomination (And whacked its tail off) and now I'm back in the rodeo. Abomination was a pretty cool fight. Also finally used power within and HOLY SHIT GUYS. HOLY SHIT.

So... How 'bout them archers, huh?

I just finished Tower of Latria in Demon's Souls.
Holy cow.

I hope From Software never makes a psychological horror game in the vein of Silent Hill because I think I'd die from terror. They really know how to make place that I just don't want to be in.

nope. it's still as badass as it was in the console versions. greatscythe is good, but only if you're good with halberds 'cause that recovery on missed swings can get you in trouble easily

you mean

herpderp i still have no idea how the game works herpderp

everything is killable (except for the first encounter with a certain individual... which was kinda lame). poison arrows or rolling through their arrows (then parry one) are the easiest and safest ways to deal with those 2, and by now you should have at least a modest grasp of those 2 things work to figure it out all by yourself. but hey, potatoes gonna potato

I have a falchion I think I found it in Blightown so maybe I'll try it out. I like the moves of the axe tho - good swing, dont use heavy attack anyway since its too dangerous and exposing.

Anyway what is WRONG with a serrated ghost blade? It shows 144 dmg unmodded and thats compared to circa 156 with my +5 axe so seems obviously superior but somehow its not that effective. Does it have some special quirk?

Currently using the grass pattern shield and changing it with spider/dragon shields. All of them work just fine cant tell the difference. But ofc I dont mellee anything that poses a threat or hits hard, I soul arrow those.

The biggest challenge when playing a mage is the godddamn targeting system. So many deaths to that...

Just checked on the wiki - its jagged ghost blade and its OBVIOUSLY superior to my trusty battle axe. I guess its got to do with ability bonus to damage? No idea how that works.

Weapons have stat scalling, those letter on the lower part of the weapon inspection screen. The jagged ghost blade only has a very bad "E Strenght scalling", while tha battle axe has C STR scailling + D DEX scalling, so your stats will help increase the damage. That's why wepaons like the lightning spear are flawed, since they are awesome on their own, but as times go on and your stats increase, weapons with good scalling start doing much more damage.

Ah, thought so. Not that ABCDE tells me anything but whatever. My STR is abysmal anyway but I have IIRC 17-18 DEX (for faster spell casting ofc). Gotta find a weapon for that.

If you're playing pure mage and just want a weapon for clearing trash, try the rapiers, as they are very fast and can atack while defending. But be carefull they are shitty for big bosses and enemies. Curved swords are cool too, or you can just take a regular weapon and enchant it to scale with intelect. ;)

If you have the stats for it, I think a two-handed weapon with sweeping attack is better. More useful for fighting trash, and won't matter if you have to 2h it cause if the trash was dangerous, you'd be using spells anyway. But that's my opinion, and I actually used a dagger for most of the game(due to lack of stats).

I am unwilling to give up shields mainly due to how this game difficulty works - there are bullshit encounters and fights coming our of nowhere where, if unprepared, you can die almost instantly. Blocking helps a lot in those situations.

Like when turning around a corner only to get attacked by hidden enemies.

This is what camera control is for. But yeah, I get what you mean.

One thing that's really good for INT characters is to get a magic weapon, it scales with your int, and pretty much any base weapon can be made into it.
