I liked how this entire fucky series was a fantasy game disguised with guns... and even more so how some people fell for it, proceeding to debate the MAGIC EFFECT.

ME1 was the only truly decent game in the series. The other two successors seem so disconnected and discordadant narratively and visually that I like to pretend they took place in some sort of bizarre alternate reality.

Just consider the events after shep takes a planet to the face in 2 to be hallucinations from brain death. 2 and 3 take place in the span of the last synaptic pulse, kind of how a dream can feel to last hours when you only have a 10 minute nap, thats why it doesnt make any sense of follow a coherent plot.

Yeah I read about that some time back, but I also read that Hawking radiation would destroy everything in the 'warp bubble'. But that was just theoretical (just as the Albucierre drive itself of course).

You're not too far off the mark there seeing as how ME2 was largely a reboot. This "trilogy"(which it is in name only) has some of the worst continuity I've ever seen.

Looking at the Alcubierre drive again, I like how one of the objections to it is that squeezing ten times the mass of the observable universe of exotic matter into a layer 10E-32m thick is only "considered impractical".

Mass Effects 2 and 3 were games based on Mass Effect, both with steadily increasing derp.

Well damn, last I heard we needed 10 billion times the mass of the observable universe. At this rate of theoretical advancement we will have theoretical FTL drives that can run on reasonable masses in a decade.

Unlikely. Do you remeber the days when space exploration was a "scientific advancement" these days the only advancement is happening in I phones

Bah, my mistake, it was 10 billion.

It's pretty scary when you read people praising the continuity or how "all the game should count as one, just as they were intended". :avatard:

Not to mention the sheer tonal shift from ME1 (essentially a Biowarian Star Trek with more shoot shoots and less socialist utopia overtones) to ME2 (Grimdark McCorridorshooter with laughable attempts at moral ambiguity and edgyness, while at the same time further embracing what would later become, god fucking help me, the staple of most Bioware games; the romances) is so jarring it left my fucking head spinning. I mean sure, the series was naturally gonna take a more dark direction with the inevitable invasion of the reapers, but this feels like I'm jumping from the kiddy pool straight into the deep end.

Last time I chacked, some tweak in bubble's geometry brought it down to less than a tonne.
Before that it was around the mass of Jupiter.

Your average biotard wouldn't know what a decent story or continuity was if it hit them over the head with a brick.

I loved how it was marketed as "dark" when it's anything but. Shepard gets killed and revived within the first five minutes to work for some goofball "secret" organization that slaps it's logo all over the place in a brightly lit space yacht, fights color coded sesame street mercs and mindless bug drones that are more black and white than Saren and the Geth, has squadmates dressing up like comic book superheroes, goes around solving said squadmates inane daddy issues, gets Zaeed loyalty after ruining 20 years of his life and to top it off does a "suicide" mission without losing anyone.

What a freaking joke.

I get that Kai Leng's a wanker.. but I don't get the severity of the hate on him.. I think he's luggage, but am I missing something that turned him into Hitler?

Well for one, up 'till the point of his reveal, ME kept to a fairly standard formula of sci-fi rip-offs and what not. Then suddenly out of nowhere comes a super space ninja. It just got too ridiculous even for ME.

I liked the Bro Team review with the "And suddenly, it's Hiro Protagonist" bit.

You defeat him in combat, which results in your defeat by cutscene.

It's just about the worst possible sin a game can throw at you.

That's part of the problem, but not all of it.

The big beef everyone has with him is that said fight wasn't exactly difficult (and if you're playing as a Vanguard, it's laughably easy), and the section after said fight on the Normandy which basically amounted to Kai Leng telling you (over a fucking one-way email) how much better he is than you, and your entire crew 'consoling' you over your defeat by basically saying "It's OK Shepard, you don't have to tear yourself up so badly over Kai Leng being stronger, smarter, and cooler than you. It's not your fault that he's got a bigger dick". It's the ultimate case of telling us that he's Shepard's equal but never actually fucking demonstrating it.

The best part of the Mass Effect series is the 'worst ending' in ME2 where everyone dies. And barely anyone will ever see it .
